We’ve got ourselves a horse race, folks! Parks and Recreation has tapped Paul Rudd to play Leslie’s opponent in Pawnee’s hotly-contested race for City Council.

Details surrounding his role are scarce, but per Vulture (which broke the news), Rudd’s politico will pop up on Parks within the next month. Meanwhile, as we first reported, Free Agents‘ Kathryn Hahn will play an adviser to Rudd’s character.

No word yet on whether Rudd will share scenes with his I Love You, Man leading lady — and Parks and Rec star — Rashida Jones.

"Parks & Recreation": Paul Rudd Signs Up For More Episodes As Leslie's Dim-Witted, Well-Connected Political Opponent
1/20/12

Paul Rudd will be back for at least three more episodes of "Parks and Recreation," according to Vulture.

How did "Parks" land Rudd? Series co-creator Mike Schur told Vulture he used cast connections to lure the actor to Pawnee. Series stars Adam Scott, Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones have all done film projects with the actor.

"A bunch of people just emailed him and asked if he had time," Schur told Vulture. "That's sort of the way we prefer to do it here."

Rudd plays Bobby Newport, a new candidate who has jumped into the race for city councilman, who could easily give Andy a run for his money in the dimwit apartment. He clearly has people, and his father, pushing him into the campaign.

It isn't clear why yet, but Paul's incessant innocence makes his stupidity almost charming.
