I can't believe what kind of hole you people live in, lol. ;) Maybe you're just too young to remember that song? It's Champagne Supernova, by Oasis, only like the biggest song on the charts about 5 years ago.

I'm just as shocked as Bootsy - I can't believe that you didn't know that!!
BTW Lisa Whelchel Forever -
Cute avatar but it kinda bugs me. You'll never find anyone in Britain who is proud to be British. You'll find plenty of people who will say they're proud to be Scottish, plenty who will say they're proud to be English and many who will say they are proud to be Welsh. But I guarantee you noone will tell you that they're proud to be British.
Also, you're avatar is more English than British - you'll never find busby's anywhere except outside Buckingham Palace. That's English , not British!
Sorry to nit-pick cos you no doubt know all this but it just annoys me when foreigners think that Britain is all "tea and crumpets and the Queens speech, laa dee da...."

Yes, I know. My father saw it and practically gave me the whooooooole speach you just did, lol. I'm not keeping it anyways. I only put it there until I could find another one I liked. BTW, Busby's? That's an interesting name. I always refer to them as beefeaters. All my friends call them soldiers. I'm like For Christs Sake THEY ARE NOT SOLDIERS!! THEY DON'T FIGHT!

Sorry. I figured, what with having family connections with the UK, you probably knew all that anyway. I just didn't want other people thinking that England and Britain are the same thing.
BTW - Beefeaters are the guys outside the Tower of London. Busbys (the dudes in your avatar) stand outside Buckingham Palace.

ah...that's it. I knew they were someone. But still, it annoys me when people call them soldiers. But about people thinking Britian is England... doesn't Great Britan consist of England, Scotland, and Wales?

Yes - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - but you'd be surprised at how many Americans don't know that.

lol, no I wouldn't, not at all!! It's really quite disturbing sometimes. When we were learning American geography in 5th grade, there were people in my class that thought the Nile was the longest river in the U.S., (when they were told that was wrong their second guess was the Missouri), that Miami was a state, and other such outrageous faux pas. Of course, we were only in 5th grade, but still....there are some people in 9th grade that thought the capital of our nation was in Washington state!!!
It's really quite sad, but when people are this ignorant of thier own country, there's really no hope of them knowing anything about foreign countries.

That's because they sadly don't teach world geography in many American public schools (between elementary and high school). I assume that it's offered as an option in some high schools, although my high school never offered it. The only reason why I knew that about Britain before I reached college is because I either heard it on TV or read it in a book.

My MS and HS require it...give me a blank map of the world and I can fill in most countries...I can do all of Africa, the Americas, Western Europe, Australia and Antartica (well obiviously on the last 2) I can't do the ex-USSR countries and I can do some of Asia but can't do the South Pacific Islands (Polynesia, Guam, etc!) I can do alot of captials too..I can do all of the Americas, Europe and Africa pretty good. If I had multiple choice I could do the whole globe I think....once again, except for Ex- USSR countries

You are lucky, I feel like I had to self-educate myself to learn a lot of the things I know. I know I can't speak for everyone's school by making that statement, I don't mean to say that it isn't offered in most U.S. schools though. But it seems to me that there's a good # of public schools here in the U.S. that don't cover world geography in depth.
