We all know that on September 13th Roseanne season 1 and 2 will be rereleased and you all are probably wondering what to expect. So here is my brief review of the sets
Season 1
Case artwork is very basic with photo of the cast members on the front and a general description on the back so nothing really creative but still very nice.
Discs are held in sleeves inside the case.
Discs all have the same artwork shown on the case and a list of which episodes are on each disc
Menus are pretty basic with theme song in background and episode selection.
The graphics included are very basic but do serve their purpose.
There are a few scenes from the episodes in the background but nothing as fancy as previous release
In episode selection when going over or clicking on the episode titles a picture from the episode will appear on the right side of the title.
Episodes are unedited between 23 to 25 minutes long
The extras are the same things that are on the previous release so nothing extra
Season 2
Just like season 1 with pretty basic menus and the unedited episodes.
The artwork and case are the same standard as season 1 with the same picture on the box being on the 3 discs with list of episodes on each disc.
The extras are pretty much the same.
Just think of season 2 as the same as the previous release with a different menu.
I would say that season 1 is worth the money because of the unedited episodes which were left out of previous dvd release but as for season 2 you are getting the same deal you got before with the previous release with the episodes and extras but just a different menu.
I love the bonus disc included called Road Roseanne Trips and includes all or most of the episodes where the wild Connor family can make fun even away from home. This disc is awesome because it includes episodes from other seasons so you get to see what the episodes will look like when they get their release.
For the price they are charging for these rereleases buying the sets over again would not be a complete waste because the sets even though basic are still pretty nice. I am looking forward to seeing what surprises Milcreek has in store for future releases of this show and I am especially excited to see what season 8 and 9 will be like when they come out.

I never bought the original Roseanne sets, just because of the edited episodes on Season 1. I realize seasons 2-7 were unedited, but the presentation of season 1 ruined the whole thing for me.
So I'm very happy with the re-releases coming out. Now I can collect the whole series at a reasonable price. I only hope seasons 8 & 9 are original broadcast episodes.

Okay just checking. Its the ep that ran the shortest on the german and australian s1 sets so just wanted a time for comparison.

Oh my, sleeves? That's pathetic! For those who have the original season 1 sets who plan on double dipping, maybe you'd be better off just putting the old discs in these boxes and store the new dvd's in the old case? That's what I would do, but I'm not currently planning to double dip.

I thought the same thing, about the sleeves. But then I thought everything else is top-notch, and for the price, to have the episodes un-cut, who cares about the sleeves. It has a case, and they'll be protected when stored on the shelf.

Is David singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" in "We're Going to Disney World" intact? The previous s8 dvd muted it and you just see him walking around.
Also is the entire end scene in black & white with Bev singing at a nightclub in "Someday My Prince Will Come" intact?

Is that him singing when they all are running in slow-mo after entering the park?
If it is, its not muted!

No, the scene where Sarah Chalke shows up and the announcement that the whole family is going, David sulks and says "Well, I'll just be in the basement." Then he starts singing it. In part two, the original When You Wish Upon a Star plays over the slow parts, but on the season 8 DVD it's replaced with I think the 1812 Overture.

I have not gotten around to seeing every episode on these set yet but I do skip around just to see what the duration of every episode is. I don't know if David is singing but I will be sure to check that out. Every episode is divided into 3 or 4 chapters so you do get a chapter for just ending credits. If Bev was singing during the ending credits of Someday My Prince Will Come consider it edited out because that episode ends with a generic ending. A black screen with the credits and theme song playing ends that episode.

I watched this episode (From the bonus dvd Roseanne's Road Trips). Yes, David does sing "When You Wish Upon a Star", which I wasn't aware of being deleted previously. I did not see a scene of Bev singing "Some Day My Prince Will Come", however. In this episode the closing credits were shown over the scene where everyone had dared to move up to first class, and the were annoying the flight attendent.
If this is when Bev sings "SDMPWC", hopefully it will be included on the 8th season set (of which this ep. appeared). What I want to be on season 8, is "The Identical Beckys" sequence. At the closing of the episode when Lecy Goranson reprises her role of Becky, they have Lecy and Sarah Chalke doing this number to the tune of The Patty Duke Show. This was deleted from the original dvd release.
So it was supposedly seasons 1, 8 & 9 that had edited episodes.

Bev sang in the episode "Someday My Prince Will Come", from season 9. In the very last scene (presented in black & white), she sings in a nightclub. The ep runs about 20:40 on the original s9 dvd, and features end credits running over a black screen. In the full version, the end credits run over a freezeframe of Bev after she stops singing.

Okay I have a question how is the picture quality? Mill Creek is well known for jamming way to many episodes on a disc and decreasing picture quality. My thoughts on the Bev song being cut is that really since it was only a bonus disc maybe they cut it to cut costs. Just a thought.

The quality varies from episode to episode. I noticed that some episode look like they were transfered from vhs. The episode that I noticed was kind of fuzzy was Bridge Over Troubled Sonny.

It was cut on the Anchor Bay sets to save musical costs, appearantly its the same version used in this copy.

hey guys I got a official response from Mill Creek about Bev's number (Someday My Prince Will Come) being cut from the bonus DVD. Here it is below.
"Thank you for your interest in Mill Creek Entertainment and its line of products. We appreciate it when customers take the time to contact us with their comments, suggestions and questions. The episode in question will contain the proper music in the complete series set and on future runs of the DVD set in question. The proper master has been located for this episode and has already been authored for use in upcoming pressing of the product. We hope this information is of use to you and please feel free to contact us with any additional comments or inquiries."
I urge somebody else to email and ask about the Identical Becky's episode. But atleast we know we'll be getting Bev's song in the proper release. :) :)

The episodes affected are:
S8: "Shower the People You Love With Stuff" (identical Beckys skit removed), "December Bride" (milton berle in drag scene removed), "Construction Junction" (scene with Tiny Tim playing ukulele removed)
S9: "Someday my Prince Will Come" (Bev in the nightclub scene removed), "Hit the Road, Jack" (scene from the movie with the hermit crabs removed)
I know they cut/replaced music in "Halloween the Final Chapter", "We're Going to Disney World!" and "Disney World War II" from S8, "Call Waiting", "Satan, Darling", "Roseambo", "Home for the Holidays" and "The Miracle" from s9. Could be more.. but I remembered those.

The music edited is "when you wish upon a star"; first sung by david in the first part, then played when the family run to enter the park.

Does the bonus disc (Roseanne Road Trips) come with ALL season 1 sets? Or just the ones you buy at Target?

They had seasons 1 & 2 shrinkwrapped together with the bonus disc at Target. For some reason Target had Roseanne,Third Rock From the Sun, That '70's Show and Grounded For Life, a couple of weeks ago, before the Sep 13 release date. I think the bonus disc is a Target exclusive, and this was a limited time special. Now, I'm glad I got it !

Hmmm...my target didn't have it early. I bought Season 1 on amazon. That's all I needed for now since it is the only season edited in its first release.
Is the road trip disc episodes different than the original release from anchor bay?
Also WalMart has a different offered ...

6 years ago I didn't know that the first season of the original Roseanne DVD release was the syndicated version until after I bought it. They have only been released three days and already I have heard two different stories on this product. Some people who bought it say that it is the same edited version all over again and for people not to waste there money on it. Others have said that it is great and the episodes are unedited so I am not sure what to believe. I mean I would like to have the original broadcast episodes but I don't want to waste my money if all they are the same old edited ones. Can someone help me?

Oh, those reviews on Amazon are actually of the original Anchor Bay "Roseanne" releases, not the new re-releases from MIll Creek Entertainment.
For some reason, the older reviews carried over into the page for the new Mill Creek DVDs.
So the new Mill Creek DVDs are, in fact, unedited and uncut. :)
(I'm still desperately searching someone to make copies of the Target exclusive "Roseanne: Road Trips" bonus disc.)

Didnt even know there was a longer version of the pilot intro, on the australian (and german I think) DVDs the shorter 40 second version is used, and the beginning of the scene where DJ eats the pie isnt included, it starts when Roseanne walks into the living room to confront him.

Ooh an update. "Workin Overtime" IS edited compared to the australian release.
When Dan and Roseanne are in bed struggling to get up, dan sleepily mutter "let the kids do it, theyre younger". On the new R1 DVD it then cuts to Dan jumping up and DJ running in. On the australian DVD, Roseanne picks up the phone and calls Jackie, asks her to call back, put the phone next to Dan's head and it starts ringing. She answers and puts the phone back. THEN it cuts to Dan jumping up. About 35 seconds missing. Amazing.. it seems there will never be a perfect season 1 release :(
23:48 on the new american DVD, 24:29 on the australian DVD (add a few seconds for the Viacom logo at the end)

If you want to see the missing musical tag scenes from season 8/9, here they are, from the german dvd (the DVD has english audio as well, but this person uploaded them with the german track), it seems the music is intact in other episodes as well:
