View Full Version : Peanuts
Just out of extreme curiosity, who all here has eaten boiled peanuts? Not those in the can, but real boiled peanuts. I talked to someone from Illinois last night and they had never heard of bioled peanuts. I was in utter shock!

What is boiled peanuts? I've never heard of that in my life.
You have got to be kidding me! Have you ever heard of peanuts at all? It is a nut grown in the south. It is an extremely popular crop, right up there with cotton. It is a 'nut', so I guess that means it is a fruit. It is very good. I never knew so many people had never heard of it until I started asking around. Maybe it is a southern delicasy...or at least a southern food. They are very good! For those of you who haven't heard of it, do you libe in the North...?

HONESTLY, Kaley! I like eat them by the bowl full during the summer. They are so incredibly good-too many can make you sick-but they're so incredibly good! Perhaps it is an Albama/Georgia thing?

I should hope and think that most people, Northerners or not, have heard of peanuts. I have however, never heard of boiling peanuts. I'll have to try them. So you just throw the peanuts in water and let it boil? Or do you have to let the water boil first and then put the peanuts in? Salted, or unsalted, what do you recommend? lol....seriously though, I am always interested in broadening my palate, so let me know the proper way to cook them please.
I have heard of roasted peaunuts.
I always find it fascinating that what you eat seems to depend at least partially on where you live. Like someone on here was talking about eating peanut butter and fluff, and I didn't know what fluff was (I have heard of marshmallow cream or whatever, but never heard it called fluff before). I asked my mom about it, and she said she remembers people eating PB & fluff when she was a kid, but no one around here eats it anymore, that I know of anyway.

Sure, Bootsy, I will walk you through the boiling process. It is definaltey something you must try! First off, you leave the peanuts in the shell...
You'll need a broiler and a good amount of peanuts...fill the broiler about 3/4 full of peanuts:
Ok, cover the peanuts in water. Put a cup of salt, or half a cup depending on how much you enjoy salt. Bring it to a boil. Reduce heat to medium. Boil for about forty-five minutes. Leave sitting in the water until it becomes as salty as you want them to be. Rinse them...and TADA! A southern delicasy.
You will love them I'm sure. Once you find some peanuts, which might be the summer since that's when they're out and about, boil some and let me know how you liked them. They really are good! Alot of people don't like them the first time, but by the second time you will have trouble putting them down!
LOL, and just in case you are a rookie: don't eat the hulls!
Oh, and I've never heard of fluff either...?
