Ok, Here's a really IMPORTANT QUESTION! When did the first on-camera toilet appear on TV? I was watching a Leave It To Beaver episode yesterday in which they showed Beaver and Wally in the bathroom. Everything was there except the toilet! I thought that this would be a good topic to respond to! I think the first one I ever saw was on All In the Family. How about you guys?:)

LOL! I personally have NO idea, whatsoever...BUT I can tell you that the Brady Bunch kids didn't have one either...((or am I imagining this? )) ;) Great topic, by the way....hehe
I know the first on-camera toilet flush (very controversial at the time) was on All in the Family. Not sure about the first direct appreaance of Mr. John was though

The first toilet WAS on Beaver. Don't ask which episode because I don't know, but I swear it's Beaver.

The first toilet shown on Beaver was the Captain Jack episode. You know the one with the aligator. I think that was the episode. It was a pretty big controversy back in the 50's. The actual episode got pushed back because of the controversy that would be surrounding a toilet on tv. *You can tell I'm a Beaver fan* :)

If a toilet was shown on Beaver in the 50's why wasn't it shown on The Brady Bunch in the 70's?

If you would like a humorous reasoning on why the Brady's didn't have a toilet go to the Brady Bunch message board and look up the topic called NO TOILET. lol- I thought it was kind of a riot to read all these theories. ;)

Its been many years ago But if I am not mistaking the early 70s cartoon show Wait til Your Father Gets Home showed a toliet.
Interesting this very subject was discussed by the local radio morning dj here the other day as a matter of fact they turn the subject into trivia questions to win movie tickets. According to them the ep. of Captian Jack from Leave it to Beaver was the first tv show to show a toilet. They also said that 3's Company and Maude showed toilets as well. The flushing sound from All in the Family also was brought up.
Now the first tv show to actually show someone using it ( I did not know this so I wouldnt have stood a chance to win the tickets) but according to them was the current HBO drama "Oz".
According to a trivia book I have Jane Fonda broke the toilet taboo by using one in the 1976 comedy Fun With Dick and Jane.
Wonder if the movies showed toilets prior to Beave's Captian Jack. Interesting that even in the more adult ( if you want to call it that ) shows at that time like I Love Lucy, Joan Davis, Life of Riley, ect...
never a toilet was shown but it was shown in Leave it to Beaver.

How times have changed! In those days besides no toilet, almost every married couple had twin beds! The same reason I suppose. ?Too uncouth for the viewers "delicate" eyes?
But I have to admit that tv and movies have gone too far!
Even as a child growing up in the 50's I always wondered why no one ever had to go to the bathroom! And my parents always slept in the same bed!

Jenny & Dawsongirl: Thank you, ladies, for clearing up this mystery.
At the other end of the spectrum, perhaps the show with the most references to the family toilet was "Married With Children". They even devoted several episodes to stories focusing on the Bundy bathroom.

Going back to the subject of toilets on "Beaver": remember the episode where Beaver and Wally are babysitting a little girl about four years old and she tells them she has to "visit Mary Jane" and they finally figure out she has to go to the bathroom? Then she manages to lock herself in there and make a big mess. Is the toilet shown in part of that episode also? I was trying to remember ...
