Has anyone seen one of these? I've heard that they started putting them in some ATM machines yesterday morning...

In Europe, but I don't think anyone here lives there. Except Mossop who lives in Scotland, but they're not using Euros in the UK.

The latest country to adopt the Euro is Germany. They started using it at midnight on New Years Eve. Britain still uses good ol' pounds and pennies! :D
Jo's The Bomb - I'd be interested to know why you think the Euro seems "cool". Personally I think it's a terrible idea to have a single European currency. It's hard enough for countries to try and maintain their own cultural identity what with all the 'Americanisation' that's going on. I hate Europe with a passion! If Britain adopts the Euro, I'm gonna go'n dig a hole in the ground and live in it for the rest of my life!!!

...Maybe "cool" is not the right word to use, how about "new." Something new, let me mention that I have a special interest in collecting coins...

I agree with you! The big thing nowdays is to be a "team player" with no identity! In all things! The New World Order? Well hopefully the "Powers That Be" are doing the right thing! But I am very skeptical! I hope the U. K. keeps their individuality! Good for them!

There have been a few debates about these....
for example, the Eiffle Tower, now ONLY accepts Euros, while some cabbies refuses touch them...

I think the UK should adopt Euros. Pounds always confused me. You should see me trying to figure them out at home, lol.

Do you live in the UK? If not then what does it matter to you whether we adopt the Euro or not? I'll admit that if Europe had a single currency it would make travelling within it a lot easier (no worrying about exchange rates or suchlike) but I really, really don't see any need for it other than that.
Why do you find pounds confusing? 100 pennies in a pound - what could be simpler than that? It's not like we have things like dimes or whatever. What are dimes? (over here a Dime is a chocolate bar!) It's summat like 12 cents isn't it? Now that is unnessessarily confusing - why a weird number like 12???
Oh, and Newhart Fan - it's good to see you're with me on this! :D

A dime is equal to 10 cents.

No, I don't live in the UK. I plan on it someday. But anyways I know they are simple to you because I mean you live over there. But some things are harder to people while easier to others. This just happens to be confusing to me!

 Stay away from England cus they're all crazy, eh? Well yeah my grandmother was a tad cooky... but I'd like to live in Linconshire, England. That's where my family is from. Either England or I'll move to Ireland. I'm a citizen of Ireland also, because my other half of my family is from there. I'm also a little Scottish too. It's confusing but I have duel citizenship to USA and Ireland

LOL I have duel citizenship between the USA and Germany. But in the case of Germany, the Euro ain't so bad. My mom has a lot of Marks (And my bro is named that lol) and other then like the .50 and mark coins, they're pretty ugly. But the bills are prettier then the Euro ones, sooo it's a half-and-half deal to me lol

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but when I was visiting England and Scotlant there were other coins besides pounds and pennies. There were 2 cent coins, 5 cent, 10 cent, 20 cent, and 50 cent coins. There is actually not a whole lot of difference between that and US money, except that we gave names to our coins - 5 cent coin is called a nickel, 10 cent coin is called a dime, and 25 cent coin is called a quarter. So your 10 cent coin is just like our dime! And we also have 100 pennies in a dollar. They are really quite similar. The only difficult part is trying to figure out how to change from one to the other. Isn't it close to 1 pound roughly equals 1.5 dollars? Also, I thought that in the UK pennies are called pence. Am I mistaken?
Maybe you were thinking 12 because there are 12 inches in a foot. In this case I agree with you, why 12? That is confusing. Much more difficult than the metric system!

Pennies, pence, p - it all means the same thing. And you are right - there are other coins besides pennies and pounds. I was just trying to keep it simple. There are 1p coins, 2p coins, 5p coins, 10p coins, 20p coins, 50p coins, £1 coins, £2 coins, £5 notes, £10 notes, £20 notes...
...and it gets even more confusing for foreigners cos there are tonnes of slang names for our units of currency. A 'quid' is a slang term for a pound. A 'fiver' is a five pound note (the London name for a fiver is a 'sky diver' - rhyming slang, you see).
I think you're about right with your exchange rates - I think £1 is about $1.75 - but exchange rates are in a constant state of flux so it's changing all the time.
