it could be a bunch of different things - spyware/malware/etc, a java or flash update or conflict, a problem with a browser add-on or plug-in.
- update and run your antivirus first to make sure everything there is OK
- download (http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html), update and run Malwarebytes - Quick Scan option
- reinstall the most current version of java; uninstall & remove all the older versions first from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (or there is a good tool here (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-remove-old-versions-of-java-from-your-windows-pc/)to do it automatically)
- uninstall Flash completely with the Flash uninstaller (http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe) - close ALL other programs before you run this. the Flash plug-in is built into Chrome so you'll need to make sure that it is up-to date with Plugin Check (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/) - update any that need it.
- clean out all of your temp files with CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/6cf1554d4f05b03317f892a4aafa8c0b/)
- you can then download and reinstall (http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp)the most current version of Java
- Chrome should be updated automatically, but you can check for updates manually, go to the blue wrench menu (top-right) >> 'About Google Chrome'. It'll check for updates there, and present you with an "Update now" button if an update is available.
if you are still having a problem with it after that, I would completely uninstall and reinstall Chrome.
