View Full Version : Should Chit Chat posts count towards your post total?

I'd like to hear some feedback on this. It seems like 80% or more of the total posts every day are on the Chit Chat board and I'd like to get more posts on the other boards. I know everybody is not just a fan of The Facts of Life and The Division.

1) Do you post more on Chit Chat just because it is fun to hang out or just to pad your post totals because it is easy and there are lots of topics? Be honest.

2) If the Chit Chat posts did not count to your total, would you be more likely to post on the other boards where they do? Would you post any less on Chit Chat if they didn't add to your post total?

I know the nature of the Chit Chat board being open to many different topics makes it more popular and easy to post topics on. I see other sites such as DVD Talk where their 'Other' board gets tons of traffic.

It is just a little disheartening to me to see 80%+ of the posts everyday just on Chit Chat..

I just would like to see more activity on boards where I know people are fans of such as Friends, That 70's Show, Spin City, etc.

Actually, this is the only board I post on anymore. I've stopped posting on any other boards cos all the sitcoms I like never have anyone posting on their boards. It seems like ages since there was a new post on 'Just Shoot Me', or 'Seinfeld', or 'Dharma & Greg'. So, yeah, I totally think Chit Chat posts should count towards your post total cos if they didn't I wouldn't have any more added to my total. Not that post total is important to me anyway. I think some folk see it like a wee competition - 'who can get the most posts the quickest?' - but I'm not really concerned with that.

TJ,I have the solution.CLOSE THIS CHIT CHAT BOARD FOR A MONTH.This is turning to a game haven and This is a SITCOMS website. This gets more posts than any board.I am dissapointed in the LITB board.

Closing the Chit Chat board would never happen, I just want to see more activity on the boards where I know there are fans of.

I'm looking for ideas to get more posts on other boards besides Chit Chat, I realize every board is not going to be a 'classic' like FOL or The Division but the site in general is receiving so much traffic and not a good percentage of posts.

You don't need hundreds of different people posting to have an active board, if you had 5-6 active posters more would probably join in if they see the board.

1) I post on here because its fun...I get enjoyment out of it. I think its cool to see how many posts I have and to try to get more, but I don't just go around posting so I can get a bigger total. I only go to this board, Facts of Life, & The Division.

2) Like I said previously, I don't post just to get a bigger total number of posts for myself. If the posts I made on the CC didn't count, yes I would still post. It wouldn't take the fun out of it for me.

I hope my comments helps, TJ. :)

1) I post on Chit Chat to well...chat with people. Not to pad my posts.

2) I don't think I'd post more unless I got into another sitcom. I would still post as much on Chit Chat if it didn't count. I already post on a lot of boards as it is, like DS, TC, L&S, etc.

Yeah, I think that the things you post in Chit Chat should go toward your final total.

The thing about it is most of the people on this board were born in the 80's, so they tend to focus on the 80's shows that they either grew up with or remember seeing in reruns, or now shows. Most of these people probably have never seen some of the shows listed.

Take for instance "My Favorite Martian", it came on about 8 or 9 in the morning so people couldn't watch it, unless they recorded it. It also showed another episode about 3 or 4 in the morning, people couldn't watch it then either. To make a long story short, some people aren't familiar enough with some shows to post at. You could always makes post like "What is this about?", "Who are your favorite characters?". It still wouldn't be worthwhile though to go to rare boards and see posts about what the show is about.

I've got an idea TJ, I just came up with it. With the boards that only get a few posts, combine all of them into a bigger board. Let me explain. Take the boards that rarely get any posts at all, make another selection to go with General, Chit Chat, Dramas, etc. You could call it the Rare Television Shows of Sitcoms, have each show that you put into the rare board and people could always go there if they wanted to comment on one of the rare shows.

Hope my idea made sense!

Forgot to post my answers

1)I post at Chit Chat because of the topics on there. I could answer a reply about music, movies, or whatever. I don't answer the topics that don't interest me. The post total isn't a contest to me. I wouldn't care if I had 5,000 posts or 5 posts.

2)If the posts didn't count it still wouldn't lead me to the boards that I never visit. If I don't like the show, or never have seen the show then I never go to the board. The only boards that I visit on a daily bases and post a lot on are General, Chit Chat, DS, I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver. I think that rounds up all the boards that I post at on an every day basis.

Yeah, I agree with Jenny. For instance, take the "We Got it Made" board. I'm the only one (Except once when TJ posted on it) who's posted it, and I've only seen one person on here who've said they've seen it. And maybe some boards could be combined, like "The Ropers/Three's a Crowd" board or a "Barney Miller/Fish" Board?

I think Chit Chat posts should count because sometimes when I go to the sitcom boards nobody is there and there is really nothing to do... On here there are alot of people even late at night, I post on here alot because it's fun to share my opinions and just to talk and have fun! I don't really watch most of the current sitcoms actually I've only seen around 5 mins of Friends ever, most of the sitcoms that I like barley get any traffic especially Get Smart!

Same with me. This is the only board I ever post on anymore. Actually, I post on the General Sitcoms every once in a while. The other boards for shows I'm interested in never get any posts, so it would be like talking to myself. Some boards get like a post a month, so I just go onto the official sites board- like the one at www.that70sshow.com. It seems like the current sitcoms get fewer posts because people who want to discuss these shows are on the official boards, where there are many more fans of that particular show (did that make sense? no.) To put it another way, the people posting here are fans of many sitcoms, but the posters at official boards are focused on that one show.
It doesn't really matter to me how many posts I get, for all I care you could stop counting and I would still come to chit chat.

TJ I also have a way so other boards can get traffic, create boards for sitcoms networks. Such as, Nick-at Nite, TV Land, etc. I know that I would have alot to say if there were boards like that. Seriously, I think you should do that :) I know if you did that I'd always be at those boards!

Personally I don't care either way. In my case it's not like it gives me more recognition (i.e, where people remember who I am) if I come to the chit-chat board anyhow.

I think the posts should count. I only post on this, FOL, and TD. Once in a while Designing Women and Golden Girls but they have been dead lately.

Thank you everybody for your feedback so far, I guess I will leave things as they are now.

I'm not really concerned with the boards that have only have a few posts, I expect that for shows that aren't airing or hardly anybody has seen. My concern is with the boards that I know people are fans of that don't get alot of activity. My feeling is if that people are posting only on Chit Chat all the time, they probably don't even bother to visit any of the other boards. That's great if you want to visit the official sites and support them, but I need your support also! I looked at the official That 70's Show board, they have alot of posts and an active community but many of them are of the chit chat variety. If they had a chit chat board, they would probably lose 60-70% of their topics.

I guess I can make a plea if you are a fan of Friends, That 70's Show, or of any other show that you generally don't visit the board of - please make a trip to that board and respond to 2-3 topics. It would really help out a lot. Thanks for your support!

I'm working on padding my post total but I prefer to post on the sitcoms boards to add to it.

I still go to all the boards of the places I like, but sometimes I can't think of anything to say about them. Like Night Court, Gilligan's Island, Mama's Family- etc. I do still post there once in a while, and I still post on GG, and visit the ones I liked every so often.

To tell you the truth, I get shocked when my posts hit every hundred, but since I have lots to say here on the CC board, I think it should count. Especially when some if not most every one of the people here post because they have something to say, not to boost their posting numbers.

LOL, besides some people get REALLY bored. heh, like meeeee.

Yeah I agree with the combining stuff.

Some shows hardly even get posts.I just finished posting a message board update with the post total for each show as of last nite.I only got 50s thru 70s right now.The last three shows were "Private Secretary/Susie","The Good Guys" and "That's My Mama" I'm sure all three of those shows only last one year. There are some boards that get posts on a regular basis such as "Hogan Family","FOL","TC" and others.I think that there should be boards for each decade for shows that don't get a lot of posts.Like a "80s Sitcom Board" or a "70s Sitcom Board" something like that. You get muh drift?

"Private Sectretary/Susie" ran from 1954 to 1957. "The Good Guys" ran from 1968-1970. Also, "That's My Mama" ran from 1974-1975 I think??
