Fort Pierce, Fla. -- Police in Fort Pierce said a woman accused of shoplifting told them that an 11-year-old boy she was with told her to do it. Fort Pierce police said Indira Landa was at the Okeechobee Road store with four children, ages 2 to 15, on Thursday. According to police, Landa and the children walked around the store eating food they did not pay for and put items in shopping bags they had brought to the store with them. Police said Landa then paid for some items, but not others.
As they were leaving the store, a witness stopped Landa. When police arrived, they explained that it was her duty to teach the children not to steal. Landa then told police that the 11-year-old she was with was teaching her how to shoplift. Police said they told Landa that it was her job to correct the boy's behavior. Landa said the boy wouldn't listen to her and asked, "What else could I do?" Landa was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail. The children were released to their father.
