Buying non-refundable items.
Have you ever bought something, (ie: giftcard) and then later realized it wasn't the best choice. When you try to return it, it turns out that it's non-refundable. What do you do in that case?
Opinions/thoughts welcome.

But since I HATE Craigslist (especially putting stuff on there because I have to)...try the 2nd-Hand Store!

My thoughts.
1. I would think a gift card would be refundable if it wasn't used. I'd speak to a manager. And get their name.
2. Another possibility, see if there's something you would like in the store.
3. After trying #1, if you paid for it with a credit card, ask the credit card company how you could contest the charge. Explaining that it is unused and that you tried in good faith to return it. And then give the date & time you spoke to the store manager and the manager's name.

Items like CD/DVD's,computer programs, puzzles and underwear are explicitly non-refundable. Most stores post in the areas that something is sold whether or not it is refundable.
Other than software and maybe a used car, I can't think of too many items over $100 that I would buy and then not be able to get a refund. There's too much of a chance of buying a lemon.

I paid with cash for the giftcard. At the store I bought it from apparently none of their gift cards (for different stores) are refundable.

That depends on where the item was purchased, Big Lots has no such policy. I returned a dvd set yesterday with no problems at all.

Unopened DVD sets are returnable in most places I've been, although there ususally is a time limit like 14 or 30 days. Underclothing, even with the tags all attached is generally NOT returnable, due to health codes/laws
