There are a lot of drive-thru fast food places out here.
If you meant drive-in restaurants, with car-hops, the Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake has that every Friday and Saturday night.
Sadly, no more drive-in movies in the valley. I did take some photos of the one in Chatsworth before it was demolished.

Yup, we had a drive in movie theater in a nearby town.
I remember our whole family went to see "A Hard Days Night", which came out in '64... I don't know if it was 64 or 65 when we saw it there.
Went there a few times in high school as well.
It closed in the early 90s. That was the last remaining drive-in left in the state, although another drive in opened up c. 2004

We never had a drive-in theater here but we had two drive-in restaurants back in the 70's. An A&W and a Dog&Suds.

Drive-in movie theaters are not gone completely, but there aren't as many around today as there were many years ago.
Upstate NY has a few around, the last time I was at one was around 2001.
My sister went upstate this past summer and saw Vampires Suck at the drive-in.

I remember mom and dad taking me and my brother to a drive-in theater in Azusa, CA. I remember a play area for us kids and the snack stand. Sometimes us kids were in our pj's because we would most likely fall asleep before the movie ended. This was back in the 60's.

There's still a drive-in movie theater in my area - about a 15-20 minute drive from my home.

I remember the drive-ins and they were fun....BUT DVDs in the privacy of my home (for a song - or free from the library) are even better!

Of course!
There was one called Memphis Drive-Thru...but it closed 5 years ago so that American Greetings can expand.
And for Drive-in Restaurant, there's one called Swenson's.
Next Summer, when I get a car I'm going to find another Drive-in and go to Swenson's!
We have 1 drive in theater here but the problem is that the screen is horrible since it is old, it needs a new screen
We had 2 in our city but both closed down in the 80's. That's where I first got to see all those old westerns of Clint Eastwood.

I did exactly the same thing. Except it was in the San Fernando Valley. The Victory Drive-In and a few others.
Yes, there was a sandbox with a swing set. I remember my parents pulling up into the driveway and carrying us (myself and two brothers) into the house because we were already sleeping.

We have a drive-in theater here in my town. It's very popular and you can watch two movies for $6
From that list, here's mine, ours is one of the oldest drive-in's in Ohio:
http://www.driveinmovie.com/OH_Skyvw.jpg
SkyView Cruise-in Theatre:
Among Ohio's oldest Drive-ins, this solo screen
has been lit since 1948. It has been handed down
through the years as a well maintained example of
a very traditional Drive-in .. quite naturally enough,
considering that the current owner/operators here -
since the spring of '94, were well prepared and knew
what they were in for .. having worked the Skyview for
three decades before acquiring it from the original and
previous owner. Among nostalgic aspects of the Skyview
are working traditional car-window speakers, in addition
to movie audio provided with FM radio broadcasting. Open
seasonally, screening two features for one low admission
(April-October): $4 for ages 12&up; ages 11 & under free.

I remember going to drive-in theaters as a kid. My parents would take me and my brother and sister mostly to see family comedies, such as Yours, Mine and Ours, and Disney comedies such as The Absent Minded Professor (the one with Fred MacMurray, NOT Eddie Murphy!)
The drive-in that I went to with my folks is probably gone now...

My biggest memory of going to the drive-in was in the summer of 1975 when I saw Jaws. What an experience that was. We saw alot of movies in the drive-ins during the 1970's. I didn't even go to an indoor theater until the 1980's. Sadly there are very few of them left.

I have to admit I have always wanted to go to a drive in movie, but at the same time I dont know if I could sit in my car for that long of a time period.

We're lucky to have a two-screen drive-in theater in our town.
It started as a single-screen in the late 1940s. In the early 1980s, a storm took the original screen down, and the owners replaced it, and added a second screen at the time.
Now, a vacant indoor theater next door is scheduled to be demolished, and a third drive-in screen will be added!

I have fond memories of going to the drive-in theater with my family as a kid. Sitting in the backseat, wearing my PJ's on seeing films like The Manitou, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, '78, a few Disney films...the last time I went as a kid was when my dad took me to see Used Cars.
As an adult I've been a couple of times, but seeing regular mainstream films just is not the same at the drive-in. Gone are the days when companies like Crown International made films specifically meant for drive-in viewing.
I have the Drive-In Cult Classics 8 movie sets on DVD, which collects some of Crown International's drive-in flicks, some come with the option to have the drive-in experience- with this it shows a cartoon short, trailers, and concession stand ads before the movie starts.

Very interesting... I was curious as to what movies might be included in the Drive In Cult classics, so I looked that up on amazon... I guess there are a few sets, including one I saw with 32 movies:
1. The Babysitter
2. Best Friends
3. Blood Mania
4. Bloodlust
5. Blue Money
6. Carnival of Crime
7. Cindy and Donna
8. Click: The Calendar Girl Killer
9. The Creeping Terror
10. The Devil's Hand
11. Double Exposure
12. The Hearse
13. Hot Target
14. Land of the Minotaur
15. Lurkers
16. Madmen of Mandoras
17. Malibu Beach
18. Malibu High
19. Night Club
20. The Pick Up
21. The Pink Angels
22. The Pom Pom Girls
23. Separate Ways
24. Single Room Furnished
25. Sister in Law
26. The Stepmother
27. The Teacher
28. Terrified
29. They Saved Hitler's Brain
30. Trip With Teacher
31. Van Nuys Blvd.
32. Weekend with the Babysitter
I've actually heard of the movie "They Saved Hitler's Brain"... I think that might be the only one from this list that I've heard of... I doubt that I've seen any of them.
But I see what you mean by something being a "drive in" movie... the above titles seem perfect for a drive in.
Here's a description of an 8-movie DVD:
Pick-Up:
An off-beat story about two young women whose lives are forever changed when they hitchhike a ride in a mobile home.
The Sister-In-Law:
A punchy story about the sexual entanglements of four people and how their moral conflicts lead to heartache and destruction.
The Stepmother:
A high-living architect who - as a result of his violent temper - finds himself enmeshed in two accidental deaths. When he discovers his 2nd wife having an affair with his teenage son...there's almost a third murder!
The Teacher:
She corrupted the youthful morality of an entire school! An explosively tense story about a beautiful, provocative 28-year-old high school teacher whose seduction of one particular student proves fatal.
Trip with the Teacher:
A chilling experience in terror as a group of female students and their pretty teacher are ambushed, while on a field trip, by two sadistic bikers, forcing the women to learn a lesson in survival.
Best Friends:
Two young couples taste the free and easy life on a cross country motor-home tour until love backfires and tragedy follows.
Cindy and Donna:
Two sisters, growing up in a middle-class home with parents too preoccupied with booze and sex, find that being grown up doesn't mean acting like their folks, as experiments with drugs and sex teach them.
Malibu High:
High school senior Kim is having her share of problems. Her grades are poor, her boyfriend dumped her for a rich girl and her financial situation is disastrous. So she makes an after hours deal with one of her teachers to improve her grade point average. Soon, she is working her way through the faculty room and taking on paying customers
Perfect drive-in fare!

I have the Volumes 1-4. (The one you listed the movies' synopsis from is from the 1st volume, and They Saved Hitler's Brain, and the original shorter version of that film Madmen from Mandoras is in the second volume) The 32 movie set was just released and is a mixture of some of the films from the previous 4 sets, plus a few movies from the company's other sets.
I have Savage Cinema(which has 12 biker themed movies), Tool Cool For School(which has 12 teen sex comedies from Crown International's library)
I also have the 50 movie set- Drive-In Movie Classics 50 Movie Pack, plus a few other of the 50 movie sets(most recently purchased Pure Terror 50 Movie Set)
You have to be careful as some of the films carry over into other sets. But for the prices you can't go wrong, of course you can't expect perfect digital quality, some are super grainy(which does add to the atmosphere)

We had a drive in in my area but it closed around 1974/1975. The last show I remember seeing was "what's up Doc" with Ryan O'neal. For 35 years the area has been dormant. Just a field with weeds. It is bad enough that it is gone, but around here nothing gets built. Nothing takes its place.
