JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- A north Florida mother has pleaded guilty to shaking her baby to death after the boy's crying interrupted her game on Facebook.

Alexandra V. Tobias pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday and remains jailed.

The Florida Times-Union reports that she told investigators she was angered because the boy was crying while she was playing the game FarmVille.

The paper also reports that she told investigators she shook the boy, smoked a cigarette to compose herself and then shook him again.

She will be sentenced in December. State guidelines call for 25 to 50 years, but a prosecutor said it could be shorter than that.

A telephone message and an e-mail sent by The Associated Press to her attorney weren't immediately returned.

I guess Alexandra won't be playing Farmville for the next 25 - 50 years! I mourn the death of her son. :(

Florida has the death penalty.

This might be a good time to use it.

I don't think this is a DP case. It seems to me it wasn't premediated and it seems like she went into a rage in a sudden moment. I think at most it will be a 2nd degree murder case in which she might get 25 years. By the time she gets released Farmville or Facebook might not even exist anymore.

Fine. I've been saying for years that state legislators must pass laws stating LEGAL WAYS to stop babies and small children from crying. Most of them are lawyers - I'm sure they can come up with something. Of course, how many of those lawmakers are actually parents??? Not many, I'll bet.

Anyone who needs legislation to tell them how to treat their children shouldn't be a parent! A parent should know their child well enough to recognize what they're crying for (hungry, diaper needs changing etc.) and be able to deal with the situation appropriately. It has always bothered me that you need a licence to drive, to go hunting or fishing but anyone can be a parent!

Sadly not all Mom's are as loving, caring, and attentive as you. Your girls are really blessed to have you for their mother!

Amen to everything Marv just said :)
I like facebook as much as the next guy, but once it interferes with what you have to do, it's time to rethink your priorities. I'm as guilty of it as anybody else, tho :(

The thing is that here at Sitcoms Online, we tend to be defenders of and
advocates for children. Whenever a violent crime happens to a child, no
matter what the circumstance or motivation, most of us believe it should
be a death penalty crime, not matter what the laws of a given state say.

I am not of that opinion, I am just giving my observation here.
