The original cannot compare to the classic original "The Flintstones".But,"The New Fred and Barney Show"(1979)came VERY close to capturing the magic of the original.Besides the fact it had some new voices(Fred was voiced by the late Henry Corden, who was on the original "The Flintstones"(the latter seasons as Loudrock,Mr.Big"-who went "tsk tsk",and other voices-but not as Fred -)(the late Alan Reed (the original Fred)who was supposed to play Fred in this series, but died before the series began production),and the late Jean VanDerPyl ,who was an original cast member as Wilma, returned as Wilma,as did the late, great Mel Blanc returned as Barney, who also was an original cast member, and a new Betty,it also featured John Stephenson ("Mr.Slate"on the original, and "Mr.Slate"here),and was pretty faithful to the original "The Flintstones".It's too bad it didn't last.Because "The New Fred and Barney Show",despite a rocky start, was pretty good as the series progressed.
