Keck's Exclusives: "Modern Family" Casts Cam's Mama!
Sept 7, 2010
by William Keck
ABC's "Modern Family" has found a down-home country mama for Cameron (Emmy winner Eric Stonestreet).
Beating out Delta Burke, Dianne Wiest, Kathy Bates and several others is character actress Celia Weston, who has made a mark in films and on television ever since she debuted as trucker/waitress Jolene Hunnicutt on the CBS sitcom "Alice" back in the early '80s.

I love Celia Weston. She's such an underrated talent. All she gets is supporting roles when she could easily carry a film and be the lead.

I agree. She's a great actress. She was hilarious as Jolene on Alice and has done so many roles since then (mainly indie films). Ms. Weston guested on one of the other L&O shows (I think Criminal Intent) and was awesome there, too. She should definitely be a more recognizable name than she is now.

She's also on Jason Lee's new cop show on TNT "Memphis Beat".

One of my favorite performances of hers is from one of my favorite movies, In the Bedroom. There's such a simple scene where she's trying to have a casual conversation with Sissy Spacek's character shortly after her son had been murdered, yet to me it's also chilling and quite Oscar worthy.

I'd forgotten Celia was in that movie!!! It's been so long since I've seen it - but it indeed was a compelling performance.

Keck's Exclusives: First Look at Cameron's "Modern Family" Mom!
Sept 20, 2010
by William Keck
After winning his first Emmy, "Modern Family's" Eric Stonestreet (Cameron) has now been awarded a down-home Missouri mama, played by character actress Celia Weston.
When Barb Tucker drops in for a visit later this fall, we'll see she "is totally accepting and loving of Cameron and Mitchell," reveals Celia, who worked with MF's casting director Jeff Greenberg on an episode of "Frasier" in 2004.
"Maybe a little too loving."
"She's somebody who made him the person he is," notes Eric.
"When she comes to the door, she gives me her little puppy kisses. And we find out she called him her 'Little Bomber,' which was actually what my [real-life] grandma called me as a little kid — I think because I was a little gassy."
Watch for Barb to bring Cam's old yearbook and thank her son for a generous gift certificate, which Celia suspects Barb used to splurge on the Jaclyn Smith for Kmart collection.
"She's definitely all done up to come see her boy."
