The early years of my VCR on some shows I edited out the commericals while others I kept them on. Mainly because the cost of tapes back then were so high and I was only making $3.35 per hour.
Then when I finally learned how to use the timer, the commericals were taped along with the show.
Looking back I kind of regretted editing out the commericals as some of them now are more fun to watch than the actual show.
Watching ads for the now defunct airlines like TWA and PanAM or
stores like Montgomery Ward and Zarye.
I was watching a special I taped off NBC back in the spring of 1982 called TV's Greatest Commericals with Tim Conway and Ed McManhon last night. I got a big kick watching ads for the then new 1982 Ford Fairmont and "Pac-Man is coming to Atari 2600" !!!
Plus Pete Rose the baseball star talking about the evils of Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew as 7-UP is caffine free. A commerical that would NOT be made today as Dr.Pepper and 7-up are both owned by the same company. Remember when the kid from Webster was slamming the Big Mac but praising the taste of Burger King's Whopper ( flame broiled ) ?
I also get a kick watching the news updates from back then. Some though are tough to watch like the one I got with Jessica Savitch doing the NBC News Digest from 1983 stoned. She couldnt say the word "handgun". She lost her carrer over that and died soon after.
I believe the infamous newscast aired during Gimmie A Break if I am not mistaken.
