Not everyone is picking on McDonald's, but some far left wing groups will always attack any company that's successful. That goofy-looking guy from the so-called "Center for Science in the Public Interest" will occasionally appear on TV shows spouting all this stuff about how many calories and how much fat is in a Big Mac or whatever.
Groups like this have sometimes successfully pressured companies into changing their formula or recipe in order to make their prepared food "healthier"... but recently the CEO of McDonald's told this group to basically drop dead...which I loved lol
It's none of these people's business what someone chooses to eat or drink.
btw, if Obamacare continues (i.e. is not repealed), the Feds are going to be keeping track of everyone's BMI (body mass index). (http://www.thepiratescove.us/2010/07/16/hhs-to-require-your-electronic-medical-records-include-bmi-tubby/)

Anything that's successful, people will target. It's jealousy. These PC doofuses have got to remember, if you don't like McDonald's don't eat there.
Most of the kids who pick up toys there go in with their parents, who are the ones footing the bill for their fast food. The kids themselves don't have that kind of disposable income. Of course, the Dems and Libs who make these asenine policies don't encourage parents to make healthy food choices for their kids, they assume parents won't and act like they themselves are the surrogate parental figures in charge of kids' nutrition. A toy is just part of the treat with which parents reward kids, most likely they don't eat there all the time.
What's next for the nutrition Nazis, tofu burgers? Or should we call them tofurgers??

And unfortunately, these days most PARENTS don't have that kind of disposable income either

^ You'd be surprised, our McDonald's in town is almost ALWAYS busy. I can't believe it with this economy that people can afford to eat out almost every day.
With all the money these families spend eating out they could buy enough groceries to last 3 months

Yeah, I was kidding about parents not having the money... the McDonald's in our town are always quite busy as well. McDonald's is a cheap meal... but I do know a lot of people who eat out at restaurants constantly, all the while complaining about how bad off they are financially

I think people get on McDonalds because some of their food is loaded with calories and saturated fats. That said no one is forcing anybody to eat their food. There must be about a dozen McDonalds here and at any given time, they are quite busy. I have seen some of the drive thru lines so long that it went out into the street.
Most of McDonad's "healthy" food isn't healthy at all. Their salads are alright, until you put some of their dressing on it. Their grilled chicken might not be so bad, but then you put their sauces on it and you may as well have had a cheeseburger.

There are some parents out there who try to make sure their kids eat
healthy. You should not blame all parents.
Tubehead didn't blame all parents; quite the opposite. Lee, it seems that about 8 out of 10 times in a discussion here, you pick on a member's opinion. Why can't you just offer your own opinion.

Having a meal or snack at McDonalds (or any fast food place) is fine once in a while. We all like a treat.
But if you're eating there all the time, don't complain when your doctor tells you your cholesterol and blood pressure are high.
When it comes to adults, we know what's good and what's bad for us. Or we should.

I'm more of a breakfast person at McDonald's. I like to get either the McSkillet Burrito meal or the sausage burritos with coffee and a hash brown. But I don't do it as often as before.

I do think McDonald's and other fast food chains do get picked on too much. It has been established that fast food isn't the healthiest food. I think fast food chains have done their best in the past few years to make the food a bit more healthier. But personal responsibility needs to be taken into account. I only eat at fast food places maybe once a month and I usually I get the food items that are more healthy. Most of the people I know only eat at fast food places once a month or sometimes every couple of months. These same people that I know exercise regularly and watch how much good and bad foods they consume. I have an uncle who eats at fast food places every a couple of days. My uncle has been overweight since childhood and he has never made any attempt to lose weight or be more active in a fitness sense. My dad who is 18 years older than my uncle is in better in physical shape than my uncle. My dad served in the Army and Air Force Reserve so he had always had a need to be physically fit and today my dad exercises a few times a week.
I have dealt with weight problems in the past and I went through a weight loss journey last year. I do my best to make healthier food choices and keep up a good fitness plan. I don't ever freak out if I eat junk food once in awhile because I also think about the healthy foods I am eating and my fitness plan. A person who eats too much unhealthy food and rarely exercises is someone who needs to start taking responsibility for their health fast food chains, junk food and other similar items shouldn't be blamed for a person's lack of concern for physical health.

Amen to that. It's certainly not impossible to find healthier choices there but its like walking up a steep hill - I know I'd find it challenging bec. I would want to have a nice big choc. shake w a fish sandwhich and ff - not exactly the kind of meal someone with high blood sugar s/b eating. BUT I know I could have some type of grilled chicken thingie, a salad & a diet coke. But having that at a McDonald's would feel like going to a hardware store to buy oranges. And yes, if you slop on reg. salad dressing, you're almost better just having a sm. fries. - the calories w/b almost the same.
I know I've made my share of derisive comments abt McD's on here, but really my remarks were more directed at fast food joints per se. It just that McD's does seem to be the face of fast food as they are the most sucessful of their ilk.
Having fast food once in a while would probably be OK, but how many really do that...of course the bottom line is if you think the food is bad for you don't go there which is what I follow (so maybe a little bit of my ire may be not being able to have this kind of food at all - bec. I would not be able to stop with one of the fattening items)

People pick on McD's because of competition.
There has been a lot of healthy items on the menu lately, more than any other Fast Food Place that's not Subway.
BK has a lot of problems with McD's because of competition, but I would have Ronald McDonald over The Burger King anyday!

Yea I always prefered McDonalds to BK.
I don't go to McDonalds much. .. maybe a few times a year. I do eat out about 4 or 5 times a month...sometimes more during football season.. And it's nobody's business but mine. :D

McDonald's is not a cheap meal anymore though. Maybe some McDonald's in various places, but where I live, it's EXPENSIVE. You eat breakfast there and depending on what you get two sandwiches can cost over $5 alone

Yea I know. And at dinner, I usually have chicken nuggets, Fries and a drink and that's almost $10. I can get better deals at my local restaurants.

I'm afraid the days of a fast food meal being cheap are over. They're just as expensive as any other restaurant now.

I went to Arby's about a month ago. It was the first time I went there in a few years. I got a sub and some fries and it came to $10. The sub was good but it was very small. I could have done better at Subway. lol

To me what it all comes down to is making an informed choice. For me the calories, saturated fat and sodium levels of most fast food (not just McDonalds) would severely aggravate my prediabetes. And as much as I hate to admit it it's because I have shi**y willpower. There's no such thing as moderation with me with this kind of food.
But I love McD's filet of fish and their milk shakes. And Burger King's whalers. Hard as it is, and it is hard, I'd rather abstain than have to risk getting diabetes. And unless I eat HEALTHY that's where I'm headed.
For those who can freely enjoy these goodies, God Bless. Live and be happy and enjoy them. The last thing I want to be is a food nazi and inflict my choices on others. But I do have to be realistic about the food choices I make, even when they sometimes suck.

You don't have to worry about me visiting a McD's, Burger King, White Castle, etc. anytime in the near future. When I get down to my right weight, and IF I feel I can work in a visit to a FF place and stay on my "points" target, I might consider a visit. But not likely. Thankfully, I pretty much enjoy healthful eating. But those 2 for $3 McD Filet-O-Fish sandwhich specials will be WICKED temptation. I could down 2 in the blink of an eye. And what's a visit to McD's w/o one of their shakes. So I'm better off just staying away. Maybe next year I'll re-evaluate.
As for TJ's, they always have something for everyone, God Bless Them. Their skim milk, kefir and fat-reduced reduced cheeses are mainstays for me. And all for the price of a song. The store is just amazing. There are a couple of nice sm. places near me where I can get fresh produce. Right now I'm into the color cauliflowers (purple, orange, green) - they really dress up a salad and the orange has a slight buttery taste.

While there are some who can go into a place like McDonald's and eat in moderation I am not one of them. Once there, I transform into a human garbage can for the fish, chicken, fries and shakes. SO...I'm just staying away a day a time - and actually I like eating healthy stuff so this doesn't feel like that much of a deprivation. And you are totally right, the consequences are not worth it - at least to me.

Since two years back, we actually don't have a McDonalds here in my small town anymore. We had it for ten years, but now it's gone, and that just sucks big time. But on the other hand, we've gotten a Burger King and a Subway here in town since then, and we didn't have that while we had a McDonalds. When I'm in town, I will usually eat at Burger King (or another hamburger place) or Subway.
Nope, I'm not a healthy person, and I'm very overweight. But it's not so easy to fo me to do anything about it. Eating "better" is just too much of a sacrifice for me. :( But I won't blame one restaurant, like McDonalds, for my problems. It's not like I eat out every day. And yeah, it's not like they push the food down people's throats either.

I totally understand. I LOVE this kind of food. But for me IT IS worth it to abstain since if I don't watch what I eat I WILLget diabetes. Like you, I DON'T BLAME the restauarants at all. It's not like Ronald McDonald & The Hamburgler came and shanghied me to a McD's and made me scarf down enough cal's for 2 days. It was fully my own doing. But I am glad that here in NYC they have to post nutrition data - bec. I would have thought the fish sandwhiches and chicken items wouldn't be all that bad - but they are - with lots of sodium and rel. high saturated fat. But for those who have the ability to eat this kind of food IN MODERATION I suppose once or twice a week wouldn't be so bad. (But that is DEFINITELLY not somethng I'm capable of so I'm just staying away)

Eating at McDonald's every now and then (i.e. twice a month) is not the problem.
The problem is if you willingly choose to eat there more often than not.
