View Full Version : the worst show in all of television

What is the worst show in ALL on tv? Sitcoms, soaps, dramas, game shows, ect..the pits of all television.

The show I pick is one I "discovered" over the summer on a low powered station outsite Pittsburgh. In fact I thought it was a local production til I noticed over the weekend that not only does our local NBC channel airs it but so does WWOR out of New York.
Both cases ..its aired late at night.

The show is called "Cheaters". Its about just that, a spouse ( or boyfriend/girlfriend ) who suspects their other half is having an affair contacts "Cheaters" and they follow the gulity party. And then at the end of the show everyone confronts each other.

The one show I saw a woman thinks her husband is cheating..
Cheaters followers her husband and tapes his doings. Sure enough her husband and another woman are seen in the park doing the nasty and of course the Cheaters camera crew tapes the whole thing.

Then Cheaters goes back to the wife to "confirm" that her husband is having "hot sex" with another woman and ask the wife if she wants to confront them. Of course you know she does.

The wife and the host of the show ( and the camera crew ) goes to the park and of course the husband and the other woman are still there and then the "fight " begins.

Wife: " how could you do this to me...we have 5 kids together..I thought you loved me...she is such a slut...."ect..

Husband: " listen..we are just friends..we are just sharing a drink..its hot outside tonight I cant help it if Barb wants to take off her top. I'm hot too so thats why I decided to take my pants off as well....I love YOU baby....You are the love of my life Lisa, not Barbara...You gotta believe me...." ect...

of course this goes on and on and on and on. The wife throws pics of the children at the husband and he says he is not gulity and the other woman defends herself for being nude with this woman's husband.

Even the host gets involved, trying to play "marriage doctor".
And with the husband face, the face of the other woman, the license plate number, all signs ( even road signs and businesses )
blurred so you cant see , well you dont see very much and with so many words bleeped out well there are more bleeps than there are words.

I saw one full show and that was enough for me. So unbelieveable..its bad !!!

If Philo Farnsworth lived to see Cheaters, It would be a safe bet he would have wished he never invented television.

OMG- I saw Cheaters also. I swear that is just a light version of Jerry Springer. I like the parent show of Jerry Springer, but Cheaters is pretty bad. The whole time I watched Cheaters I couldn't help of the people that love this show and tune in every night to see it...

Ya know what? I am glad that "reality" tv is still going (because it very entertaining). My favorite reality show is "Survivor" because it gets very interesting at times and the show is a game in some sense. If you really watch it you would agree. My other favorite reality show is "Fear Factor". And that too gets interesting.

Oh man do I agree with whoever said The Beverly Hillbillies. It would be an okay show if Granny didn't have that annoying voice. She's #2 in the most annoying voice category.

I like My Favorite Martian too! I don't want to see that remake movie they made in 1999 though. I just don't think anybody could fill Ray Walston and Bill Bixby's shoes in the roles.

Of shows listed above: I am a big fan of Beverly Hillbillies (in my personal opinion, one of the top 5 comedies of all time, axed due to CBS's dumb decision to de-ruralize its lineup!) and Cheers and Frasier and My Favorite Martian, I do hate the following:

Repeat, these I hate:
Friends
Ally McBeal
3rd Rock from teh Sun
Beverly Hills 90210
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Dawson's Creek
Dharma and Greg
Drew Carey
Futurama
Angel
Boston Public
Felicity

and most other trashy comedies of today...

Well, it always seems the shows everyone seems to hate are the top-rated ones. Weird phenomenon. But the world is usually divided on everything, as I like half the ones you listed and hate half the ones you listed.

My vote though goes for the Harry Anderson fam-com called "Dave's World". Worst pilot I ever saw and the show never got better.

Special nods to "Three Sisters", "Emeril", and those 8 million failed shows that tried to follow "Seinfeld" at 9:30 (Sorry, NBC).

First of all, I just love all sitcoms! But there are those that make me throw up. Some of these are pretty good IMO, but they're not as good (IE, TAGS is okay, so is 'Bunch', but 'Bunch' gets way to repetitive.):

"The Andy Griffith Show" (1960-1968)
"The Brady Bunch" (1969-1974)
"M*A*S*H" (1972-1983)
"Full House" (1988-1995)
"Friends" (1993- )
"Cheers" (1982-1993)

There are prob. more that I can't think of...

(LOL Isn't it interesting how some shows you like aren't liked by others? Lol I love "Taxi", 'Hillbillies', etc)

The Brady Bunch
Friends
Will & Grace
Men [women & dogs]
Off Centre
Reality Crap
Westerns
SciFi Crap (Except for Wonder Woman)
Teen Drama Crap

I was shocked to learn that some people hate Lucy,3s and even the Brady Bunch!
I mean those three shows are some of the most known classic shows out there!!!!
I mean yes I can't stand Brady Bunch but it is in that family of classic shows!
There are some shows that are just notable!
I'll even admit that I once watched the Brady Bunch and laughed.
Lucy,Three's Company,Brady Bunch,Taxi,Hillbillies......all great shows in different ways.I'm gonna admit that Brady is OK but it has been on NAN too long and is very boring.
(I also like Hillbillies,Taxi and Simpsons....)

I saw part of one episode of "Cheaters", and that was about all I could take. I think it's a sad commentary that so many shows like Cheaters, Jerry Springer, Rikki Lake, and all of these daytime "Court Room" shows seem to have such a loyal following. My guess is that it allows people to tune in, and for 30 minutes or so, point the finger at someone else and say "see...you think I'm bad?....you think I'm a loser? - look at those people!".

I also have to agree with Dawsongirl about "Reality Shows". They are definitely not Game Shows. In my opinion, "Reality Shows" are just a fad, and like most fads, they will quickly fade away.

The program that I really can't understand is "Fear Factor". I already know that I'm afraid of heights - I don't have to go on TV and jump off of a 20 story building to find that out. I already know that I wouldn't like to lie in a box and have hundreds of snakes dumped on top of me. I don't have to go on TV to find that out, either!

I used to watch Fear Factor. The clueless thing to me is the fool did all that crap for a measly $50,000!!! I mean come on, if they dared me to get in a box of a million crawly bugs that $50,000 ain't even going to cover half of the counseling for after the show!!! I don't think I would do it for all the money in this world. I know with that offer some people would be tempted, but I still wouldn't give in because my fear of something is going to be a thousand times multiplied by all the money in this world.

BTW JT, I've sat through at least 14 hours worth of Jerry Springer cause my mom would always watch it in '99. (And my dad sneaks a peak every once in a while) and all I have to say this must be why Oprah is so succesful LOL See, Jerry can be funny in a bad way, but Oprah can be funny in a good way LOL. I mean, they're gonna run out of topics one day on 'Springer'...I mean, what's left? 'I Saw Mommy Making Love to Santa Clause' or 'My Boyfriend Has Been Sleeping With My Nanny'? LOL

Apparently, I have to explain. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have the
right to express the show that I "think"
are the worst shows. So, "IMO" those are
the worst shows. I don't go around replying back to others' dislikes and
complain. I accept everyones opinions.
I would appreciate the same! So what if I
don't like "I Love Lucy", "Brady Bunch",

like the same shows? No! Because if we did, it would be pretty boring on these

True everybody has the right to express their opinion.

I myself for example cant stand FRIENDS though I know many who feel that FRIENDS is must see tv. My girlfriend and I broke up over this and she felt that it was "strange" and "couldnt take" a guy who would rather watch Lucy or Beaver than a pregnant lesbian or 2 girls fighting over one condom.

Call me old school but I for one believe there is way too much sex on tv, and parents want to know why their 9 year old knows more about sex than what they knew when they were teenagers.

I agree. It seems like a show can't be funny without 12 solid minutes of solid sex jokes. :p Either the writers are getting less creative or the viewing public is getting dumber.

"It seems like a show can't be funny without 12 solid minutes of solid sex jokes. :p Either the writers are getting less creative or the viewing public is getting dumber."

My response:

It doesn't have to be that way.

I'll give you an example of a recent sitcom that was very funny, very successful, and did it without relying on sex jokes and bathroom humor: "Home Improvement".

It would have been very easy for the writers to have Tim and Al constantly making crude remarks about Heidi, or have the two of them hitting on her all of the time, but they didn't do it. Instead, Heidi was always treated with respect by the guys.

From time to time there was some humor derived from the fact that Heidi was so attractive - but it was always done in a tasteful and humorous way. Example: In one episode, the "Tool Time" cast was on location at a hardware convention. They had a table set up with Tim, Al, and Heidi sitting behind it, giving out autographed pictures of themselves. Tim and Al sat there with a stack of pictures, and no one asking for their autograph. Heidi, on the other hand, had guys lined up a mile long waiting for a chance to meet her, and get her autograph. Very funny, and done in good taste.

Dawsongirl: I agree with you about Drew Carey. I've always thought that "The Drew Carey Show" had the potential to be one of the all-time classics. Instead, they took the easy way out, relying on a lot of junior-high school level jokes about sex, bodily functions, etc. "Dharma and Greg" and "Friends" are no better.

I saw an interview with Jackie Gleason one time, where he was asked why "The Honeymooners" has remained so popular for decades, even though they only made 39 episodes (not counting the "lost episodes", which were really part of Gleason's variety show on CBS). He replied that the reason it has remained popular is because it was a genuinely funny show - and that they didn't rely on sexual inuendo or cheap bathroom jokes to get laughs. (He also gave Art Carney 95% of the credit for the success of the show!)

That's exactly why I watch so much classic TV. The jokes were clean and still funny. Plus it didn't feel like the writers were talking down to us (we're not all a bunch of sniveling idiots with one track minds you know. :) )

(I did the "quote" thing right this time!)

Yeah! :D

Look at "Leave it to Beaver", the episode they are showing now involves Beaver getting stuck in a soup bowl. That show didn't rely on dirty humor, yet I find this episode hilarious. Long live the good old shows!

I really dislike some shows such as Mash. I don't know why i just can't stand the show. I also think that Step-by-Step is a bad show too.

Also 7th Heaven has a lot of bad actors.

Hey everyone, these are the topics on 'Springer' this week (at least in my area):

Mon: A woman reveals her food fetish to an unsuspecting boyfriend.
Tues: Woman admits to her dairy farmer husband that she lost her dentures while on the job in the worlds oldest profession.
Wed: A woman confronts her cousin who stole her boyfriend and is intent on marrying him on the show.
Thurs: Guests reveal secret lovers.
Fri: A woman decides to work as a 'human buffet', a fiance refuses to quit her job as a stripper.

Tues and the first story on Friday are waaay to weird!

whats with the stars/rating?!

RIght when the boards switched to vBulletin in 2001, we originally had something called "Thread Ratings", where you could rate threads on a scale from 1-5 (5 Being Best). The function was disabled, meaning it's now (and has been for roughly 3.5 years) impossible to "Rate" threads.

That's funny stuff! I don't watch Springer, but we have digital cable, which comes with an on-screen "TV Guide"...when I scan thru the guide and see that Springer is on some channel, I'll usually check the show description, just to see what he's up to today... I always have to read it like 2 or 3 times to make sure I read it correctly... I'm like, "what?? a father wants to marry his girlfriend's step daughter??...am I reading this right?"

I haven's seen a Springer episode in years, but it always seemed to me that the show is scripted... they'll bring out some guy, and his girlfriend, and they'll reveal that the girl is actually in love with another girl, and then the audience will start booing her for treating her boyfried the way she does...and then, the girl will invariably yell to the audience: "Shut Up!!! Y'all don't know me! You shut up!!" <flips audience the bird>

Hard to belive these shows last as long as they do...

I answered this once, but what the hell. Maybe I've changed in 4 years.

Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres- I just hate these 2 shows. Dumb characters don't normally bug me, but these people are dumb and obnoxious.

Sex and the City- I didn't find it funny and Kim Catrall's character (Samantha?) annoyed me.

Sopranos- swearing doesn't offend me, but damn...I think they throw it in there every other word just because they can.

Any version of Family Feud, post 1999. Fremantle ruined it. Bad set, bad hosts, obnoxious contestants.

Actually, most modern game shows suck.

Big Brother- the first one was fine...everything afterward has been annoying

Days of Our Lives- I used to obsess over this in the mid-90s. One day a month or so ago, I watched it for old times sake. Damn...what the hell happened?

The last few seasons of The Drew Carey Show- Somehow Craig Ferguson came out of that unharmed and has a pretty funny talk show. What a train wreck.

No. That is the pace of 'happenings' on certain soaps, not all.

NBC's soaps are just plain horrible when it comes to moving on with things. In 2003, all 250-260 episodes of "Passions" that year spanned the events of eleven days. Most soaps span about 100 days in a year.

Last year, the DAYS character Jennifer Devereaux was literally stuck on a cliff for the entire month of August.

Thanks for the reply

I was exaggerating of course...actually, the only soap I ever watched was my first couple of years in high school (75-76). Our school had split sessions, and I would get home at 12:30 and watch "All My Children" while having lunch.

That is interesting that soaps (most) span about 100 days in a year, except for the one you pointed out...I always did kind of wonder about that, but never watched one to find out...

And that's funny about the Jennifer character on the cliff... that's the kind of stuff we used to joke about...

Thanks for the info JT...

I know, but I was just saying that your perception of the characters is exactly what it should've been. It's common knowledge that Jerry and Larry David ended the show with the four characters going to jail because they wanted to send the message to the audience that these were bad people, since a lot of the bandwagon fans who hopped on the show because it was trendy might've failed to realize that, as a lot of people wanted the show to have a happy-style ending, but the characters never did anything to merit it. Regardless, I love Seinfeld and part of the reason is because these characters were so great and there weren't people like that before. But technically, you're right, they were rude :)

LOL. I've seen 12 of the 13 episodes, and wrote a guide for it. It was truly rotten and putrid, but I had my reasons. What made it all the more sad was that the two showrunners are both Emmy winners.

That said, the art direction was excellent, and no matter how annoying she may be as an actress, Kristin Chenoweth does have a nice voice. The musical performance scenes were the highlights.

Well with soaps, most of the action in one episode spans, basically, 2-3 hours of a day. The focus bounces from situation to situation though, and it is to be assumed that many of the situations happen simultaneously (like, first we'll see how the newlywed couple is adjusting to married life. They get into a mini-argument but quickly reconcile. Next, we start at the same time the previous scene started, but we now see how the powerful businesswoman is coping with the loss of her first born child).

Usually, one soap opera day lasts about two-three episodes. Sometimes, a whole week could be devoted to one day (weddings, trials, funerals, murders, other important things). Sometimes a day is only featured in one episode, meaning that the people in charge want to speed the show along, but not skip over key details.

And then there's SORASing. That's when a character (usually somewhere between 5 and 15) goes away to boarding school, or to another family member out of town, etc, and when they come back, only two or three years later, they're magically ten (sometimes more, sometimes less) years older! Examples...DAYS's Brady Black was born onscreen in 1992. The character is now around 23 years old. AMC's Bianca Montgomery was born in 1988. She's now 21 years old.

There's also deSORASing, when a character is made younger. Erica Kane's birth year has changed sooooooo many times. When AMC debuted in 1970, her birth year was 1954, making her sixteen. Sometime in the 1980s, it was changed to 1957. A few years ago, it was changed to 1962.

It's confusing at first, but once you become an old pro like me, you almost expect your own distant relatives to start sprouting years out of no where!

I have many shows to list as the worst shows in all of television. I have many to list. I hate all these shows listed and would NEVER own any of them on DVD. It would not bother me if they never showed any of these shows in reruns again. Here it is below:

Gunsmoke
Leave It To Beaver
Bonanza
The Andy Griffith Show
Petticoat Junction
Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.
Mayberry R.F.D.
The Brady Bunch
The Flip Wilson Show
Good Times
Chico And The Man
The Simpsons

I know this is an opinion thread but I want to know why you think they are the worst.

Undoubtedly, the worst show would have to be TURN-ON (ABC, Feb. 5, 1969-
Feb. 5, 1969), a comedy-variety show THAT WAS CANCELLED AFTER ONE
BROADCAST! Apparently, no one bothered to turn on TURN-ON. A close second would be the infamous MY MOTHER, THE CAR
(NBC, Sept. 1965-Sept. 1966). Well, at least it lasted a whole season (which
is a surprise). No, I've never seen either one of them.

I was amazed at some of the postings, here though; especially popular shows
that ran for decades! Some people bashed some of my favorite series--but,
rather than hurt anyone's feelings, I won't go there. Suffice it to say that it
takes all kinds and there's no accounting for taste.

Reality shows especially The Apprentice are horrid shows. I dislike them very much.

One more show to add to my list of the worst shows in all of television. I had so many I forgot to add these three. Also, I mistakenly put Diff'rent Strokes as one of the worst shows in all of television. I happen to like Diff'rent Strokes, but I hate it's spinoff The Facts Of Life. Sorry for that error. Forget I posted it.

Family Matters

Family Matters because of stupid annoying Urkel and the rest of the cast was too dry and provided no comic relief. I did not like Carl's attitude at times as well.

I forgot two more shows that I would say were the worst shows in all of television.

Saved By The Bell: The New Class
7th Heaven

Saved By The Bell: The New Class stunk because the new class was not as good as the original class and the storylines were stupid. They also made the original characters of Screech and Mr. Belding VERY unwatchable. The show should of ended after the original class graduated in 1993. 7th Heaven has been on the air too long. The storylines they deal with are ridiculous and stupid (Simon's sexual situations plus many more), the mother is a busybody who always sticks her nose in the kids business and the father don't act serious at times and when that happens he is acting like an immature child.

Thanks jeffersonsfan. You just got me to add one more show to my list of the worst shows in all of television. Here's the show and why I hate it.

The Simple Life

I am so sick and tired of hearing about and seeing Paris Hilton. She is an attention whore and a bad role model to all. It's a waste of time to see her acting stupid like an immature child on TV. She should be sentenced to work as a maid in one of her family's Hilton hotels. Her show is a true example of TRASH TV!

Thanks again jeffersonsfan for helping me remember one of the many of my worst shows in all of television.

I just remembered another show for my worst shows in all of television. My list is now complete.

Archie Bunker's Place

Too dramatic and too serious. They turned Archie into a more serious mellow sadsack character and made him very unpleasant to watch. He wasn't the same Archie we enjoyed for 8 years and 9 seasons (1971 - 1979). You missed the old Archie. It also wasn't the same without Edith, Mike, and Gloria. Stephanie was stupid and they focused too much on her problems growing up. The new cast had terrible chemistry together. Too many serious topics (Edith's death, Veronica's drinking problem plus many more). A terrible continuation of a classic series. Should of ended in 1979.

Lucille Ball once said that conflict is the essence of comedy. Without Mike
(a.k.a. "Meathead") or Edith ("the Dingbat") to play off, Archie had no one to
argue with. They should either have given him a foil for him to sling his barbs
at or ended the series when Mike and Gloria moved out, or at least when Edith passed away. Instead, as you said, it became a comedy-drama (or "dramedy," if you prefer). (In the early years, of course, he also had George Jefferson to argue with until the Jeffersons spun off into their own show.)

I`m actually a big fan of both AITF and Archie Bunkers Place but everyone has their own likes and dislikes. That`s what makes this topic so much fun to read. I got to correspond with Carroll O` Connor before he past away & grew up with the Bunkers in the 70`s.

I very much dislike any reality shows but there must be someone watching them or they wouldn`t be on - I guess?

I also really despise Cheers, Frasier, Mad about You, The Apprentice, Little House on the Prarie (too violent & corny) Roseanne, Mary Hartmann, Apple`s Way, Wings, Fantasy Island, many more!!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but i cant help but think WHAT THE F**K when i see people write that Seinfeld was one of the worst shows. I couldn't live without Seinfeld!

Anyway, I couldn't stand Hogan Heroes, MASH, McHales Navy, Gilmore Girls, CHEERS, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Get Smart.

Okay, I know everybody has their own opinion, but...well, I suppose that means it's alright for me to say this then, since it's -my- own opinion.

Firstly...if you have a list with like 50 shows on it that you think are absolutely "the worst show in all of television", then it sounds almost like there's no pleasing you anyway.

Secondly...I understand some people may not like Seinfeld, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. but I can't help but wonder if people stuck them in this list just because of their enormous popularity and they find them overrated. I mean, seriously, you can say you don't like them but...I think it's a stretch to call any of them the WORST show of all time.

Anyway, here's mine:

Baby Bob!! I just wonder what in the world people were thinking when they thought this would be a good idea for a show. Not only that, but it wasn't even aimed at kids!

But, as far as television classics go that I just can not stand (although I still couldn't call it the worst show of all time)...it HAS to be M*A*S*H!!! Everytime I happen to hear the beginning theme, I feel more dread than I ever have before. To me, it just seems so dull and boring!

I agree with everyone who posted about "Friends" being the worst show in all of television. It is the worst show in all of television. It's stupid, retarded, immature, and not even funny. Too many dumb storylines and dumb characters. I don't like Jennifer Aniston. Never did and never will. TRASH TV!

This show is so glorified that even though the series is complete on DVD, Warner Brothers still plans to release more of "Friends" throughout 2006. I mean this is ridiculous. All 10 seasons are released, a limited edition 10 season box set, the series finale, four seperate single disc releases of the best of seasons 1 to 4 that are available in a box set as well, and four separate single disc releases of the best of the show in volumes 1 to 4 that are available in a box set as well. The way I see it, thats enough releases for "Friends". Warner Brothers should start thinking about releasing real classics in their television library like "Welcome Back Kotter" and "Perfect Strangers". These two shows sadly don't have a DVD release yet because of Warner Brothers wanting to spend too much time devoting themselves to releases of "Friends". Well it's all been released so just end it and focus on releasing shows not on DVD yet like the two I mentioned.

The part that makes me laugh and I mean it on a sarcastic note is that the show is coming to Nick At Nite in 2011. I can't believe it. The network that gave us great classics like "Mister Ed", "All In The Family", "The Jeffersons", and many more is deciding to air trash. That's even worse than what they air now. They should of thought about acquiring "Seinfeld". That would of been a smart acquisition on their part.

Another thing that makes me mad is that this stupid series is all out on DVD when real classics like AITF, Jeffersons etc are only half way through getting the entire series released on DVD.

Fear Factor is hideous. How it made it so long is beyond me.

Any reality show on MTV is garbage. All the Fox ones are annoying and insulting to intelligence. The Amazing Race is okay when the contestants aren't annoying. Survivor is a joke, because all the people do is sit around and bitch, and then vote off the wrong people. I can't stand shows where a person's fate is determined by voting from the other contestants. That doesn't prove anything...just that you didn't piss anyone off.

Thank goodness for all my classic TV shows on DVD. I can watch them when I want to, commercial free. Thank goodness for whoever invented the DVD recorder also.

I never have to put up with reality-TV or a comedy I dislike ever again. Unless the TV is accidentally left on. LOL!!

I can enjoy The Bunkers, The Jeffersons and all my favorites over & over again!!!

When I was a kid there was so many awesome shows for me too watch I became a TV addict. It seems that since I`ve been out of high school there`s been so fewer great shows on. I guess times & taste`s change.

Out of the many reality shows on television today, "Fear Factor" is definitely the worst reality show in all of television. It is stupid, dumb, retarded, disgusting, and degrading. The stunts performed on the show are below human dignity (eating a horse rectum, crawling through a ventalation system with rats, spiders, and flames, plus many more). "Fear Factor" is not worth watching and is a true example of TRASH TV!

I really thought "Fear Factor" was off of television but I saw an advertisement that it`s coming back again. (Groan........)
