Vanessa Marcil Returning to "General Hospital" -- For Real!

It's official:

On Aug. 11, Vanessa Marcil will reprise her Emmy-winning portrayal as Brenda Barrett on the ABC soap "General Hospital", according to a report in this morning's USA Today.



Brenda will reportedly return to Port Charles with a big secret that is likely to cause major drama. Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jax (Ingo Rademacher) should keep their eyes especially peeled, as Brenda has a romantic history with them both.

Details beyond Brenda's big secret were not revealed.

Me too, catlover. I like Vanessa Marcil (Brenda), but I would prefer a Genie Francis return as well. Laura Spencer is my absolute favorite character on GH.

Laura's my all-time favorite GH character, too. Genie Francis ROCKS. By the way, did you know last year that Genie and her brothers did a Christmas CD last year? I found it on iTunes, and someone posted their rendition of "Silent Night" on YouTube. I never knew Genie could sing before this! :D

If anything, she'll breathe new life into the Sonny/Jax stories. She was the one woman neither could entirely get out of their systems - even more so than Carly. Anyone know if this is a short-term visit or is she in this for the long haul?

Vanessa Marcil Returns to "General Hospital" August 11, After Big ABC/SoapNet Promotion

On Aug. 11, Vanessa Marcil, now going by her married name -- Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo -- officially resumes the role of Brenda Barrett on "General Hospital", and in anticipation of this long-awaited, long-rumored and eagerly welcomed return, ABC and SoapNet are creating some major special pre-Brenda promotions.




Starting on July 17, SoapNet will have a 25-day countdown to Vanessa's return to "GH" with a daily Brenda happening, including the time she wore a wire to trap Sonny, their kiss on the beach and more memorable moments.




Maurice Benard gets into the act on Friday, Aug. 6 and Monday, Aug. 9, when "General Hospital's" episodes will be primarily about Sonny and his review of his life -- torn asunder by the estrangement of his children.

Naturally, he thinks about the woman with whom he once had a torrid, up-and-down relationship.
