AKRON, Ohio -- A Summit County jury found an Akron man guilty of domestic violence on Thursday after he allegedly beat up his live-in girlfriend because she would not make him a sandwich.
According to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh, Cleottis Gilcreast, 52, of Akron, was found guilty of domestic violence, and domestic violence-menacing, for a May 5th incident, where he allegedly slammed his girlfriend to the ground, face first, after she refused to make him a sandwich. The attack happened after Gilcrest pulled a knife on the woman and threatened her.
According to Walsh the victim attempted to leave the apartment the couple shared after the knife was pulled, and started packing a bag to leave with her sister and brother-in-law, who were in the apartment and witnessed the incident. When the victim reentered the apartment, according to Walsh, that is when Gilcrest slammed her to the ground.
Police stopped Gilcreast a short time after the incident as he was walking from the apartment and arrested him.
At the time of this incident, Gilcreast was already on probation for a July 31, 2008 domestic violence conviction against this same victim.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 21st.
