Stephen King...unless he owns a cell phone now...but the main reason he wrote the book Cell was because he doesn't like cell phones.
I do use a cell phone, but still use land lines for our main phone.

I have both but didn't get a cell until early 2006. And its a very basic one - mostly for emergencies & important calls -

Land Line phone for me. Actually, I am not that crazy about talking on the phone

We still have a landline, but we barely use it. My mom keeps saying we should just get rid of it and it wouldn't make any difference to me. Cell phones are just more convenient.

Same here. I do have a cell phone, but I only use it when necessary. We have a landline here at home, but I barely talk on it. Thanks to caller ID, I choose to answer the phone if it's someone I don't know. Heck, even if it IS someone I know, sometimes I won't answer.

Exclusively cell phones here. We got rid of our line when we moved in 2003... My mom got a cell phone after the move, but I didn't get my own cell phone until 2006.

Land line here. Nothing against cell phones but I dont have one because I dont like to talk on the phone a whole lot. I am old school. I like to communicate with people the old school way, by talking to them person to person face to face, even though I am a shy person. Go figure.

I'm not big for being on the phone either. Actually one of the things that really turned me off to cells initially was the WAY EVERONE WAS ALWAYS ON the darn thing. In the middle of the street, in a restaurant, on a train talking loudly enough for others to hear abt their bad fight with a b/f g/f, in the CAN, honestly - I never saw so many adults acting like a kid with a new toy. BUT - sadly - in this day and age - they have become a necessity for some. For me it was having something in case of an emergency AND ALSO when I was betw. F/T jobs at the end of 05 & early 06 that I realized having a cell would make it easy for TEMP agencies to get a hold of me in case of an assignment. With the temps if you don't call them back right away its pretty much you snooze you lose. So I do see both sides - but I am old fashioned and much prefer calling someone on a LL.

i have both but prefer my landline. In fact last summer I replaced my kitchen phone with a retro 70's phone. It's black with a rotary dial;) and a very long cord.the ringer is very loud and is quite a conversation piece in my reto kitchen.also this was my family phone from the 70's.
I KNOW I am old school!:) l

My husband has a cell phone. I do not. I still use a land line for my computer.
You kind of need to move on to cell phones. It's like staying with a morse code machine claiming and preferring it over the landline. Just doesn't work.

I have both a landline and a cell phone. I know of people who have given up their land line entirely, but I just can't bear to do that myself. For example, if I had to call 911 for any reason, I just feel more secure using my landline phone. Also, they both have caller ID, which is my best friend, since I can screen out anyone I don't feel like answering for (bill collectors and the like :D )

If I were 16 years old and obsessed with talking or texting then I might but I'm not so the only cell phone I'll ever have is very basic and just for emergencies. Cell phones are here to stay and I certainly won't dispute that but land lines aren't going anywhere no time soon.

Me, too. If I didn't like the convenience of a cell phone for emergencies, like while driving, I wouldn't even own one.

I'm the same way. I don't really need a land line any more but I just can't get myself to disconnect. I rationalize it as one of my luxuries. If finances really became a major issue I would probably disconnect it. Also if there ever were a power outage the LL would come in handy.

Yes I don't think LLs will just disappear anytime soon. But my cell is basic too, just for emergencies and for work when I'm away from the office.

What are you, 15? A phone is a phone. It's just that one of them is "mobile" and the other is not. One you can text, email, etc. and on the other you cannot. But, hey. Call me old fashioned, but I thought telephones were for talking.
I didn't get a cellphone until four years ago, when my mom became terminally ill. I went out and bought a cellphone because I wanted to be easy to reach in case she needed any kind of help. But I prefer my land line, and use it much more often than I use my cell.
My main problem is that I don't feel comfortable with the whole "culture" that has developed around the cellphone -- constantly making phone calls, constantly texting, constantly blabbing & gabbing in one way or another. Just not my thing, that's all.

I prefer land lines cause they tend to be cheaper per month than a cell phone. I have Time Warner Cable digital phone and can get unlimited long distance calling for free, while with cell's that's usually about 10 to 20 more dollars a month for something like that.

I'm with you. Cellphones irritate me. People down here talk on them while they're driving, shopping, walking or breathing. lol
I don't have one and don't want one.
