I use to find it silly that a cartoon would add a laugh track to it, but now I sort of feel it adds to its charm. Opinions?

I think that one just gets used to it - either way. I just expect a laugh track with the Flinstones like I don't expect one with the Simpsons. I enjoy both.

....didn't want a laugh track, as they were used to producing "RUFF AND REDDY", "HUCKLEBERRY HOUND" and 'QUICK DRAW McGRAW" without them. But ABC figured, since 'THE FLINTSTONES" was a prime-time series aimed at adult viewers, it should be the same as every other "live-action" sitcom, and use one {and originally applause at the end of the orginal network credits}. The network forced Jay Ward to originally use laugh tracks in the early episodes of "ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS" in late 1959 [when it aired on weekday afternoons], but he finally- with the support of his sponsor, General Mills- refused to use them after the fourth episode. H-B, however, did not have the clout to say "no" to ABC, however, and used laugh tracks through the end of the series (and on "TOP CAT" and "THE JETSONS"). Eventually, they eliminated the laugh tracks in several episodes when the series was "remastered" in the '90s.

Without. I wish the DVDs would give the option to view the episodes sans canned laughter, like M*A*S*H.

Well, The Flintstones was a cartoon, so any laugh track would be "overdone." It's not like it was filmed in front of an audience.
