What is the earliest television moment you can remember watching?

I was born on 2/29/68 and I remember going with my mom to someones house ( forgot who ) and she was fixing their tv set and for some reason I remember watching a commerical for True cigarettes, I remember the logo . Cigarette spots were banned from tv in 1971 so this had to be 1970.

I also remember watching with my aunt some game show with Joe Garagiola around a bunch of ladies plus another game show that featured this huge pinball machine, I even remember the contestants- one team I couldve sworn was Florence Henderson & Robert Reed from the Brady Bunch.
Plus I remember a kids show called "GO" . I dont remember who hosted it but I do recall one show where they went to some state fair/amusement park and had the camera on some of the rides. All of this was prior first grade for me so we are talking the early to mid 70s period.
Does anybody know what shows I am talking about?

How about the NBC color peacock "the following program is brought to you in living color ( WBAL color if you were watching the show in Maryland ) on NBC ".

Those shows are a littl bit before my time, sorry I can't help you confirm or deny thier existance!

I was raised by the television, and have no real clear memory of my first show other than the fact that I would watch ANYTHING as long as it was animated, and that lead in to the great re-runs of sitcoms that would come on directly after cartoons in the morning and afternoon. Gilligan's Island and The Monkees stand out in my mind...

But the first show that was an EVENT for me was The Greatest American Hero. I have always LOVED super heroes, and that was the first show my parents allowed me to stay up past 8pm for, every Wednesday night.

I was born on October 14th, 1977. The first television series that I remember watching was Dukes Of Hazzard. I also remember that when I was real young my two favorite shows were Dukes Of Hazzard and Diff'rent Strokes.

I think most of you know by now that I have been alive for 50 years! The first show that I remember watching is" I Love Lucy" in prime time!:eek: Can anyone else beat that? I certainly hope so!:lol: I feel positivelyANCIENT!!!:(

You don't have me beat by much. I can remember watching first run episodes of Perry Mason and Andy Griffith . Good thing about this was we got to see them uncut and with very few commercials, not the 5 minute commercials they run now. It's sad TV Land doesn't run their shows uncut ,the younger people are really missing something.

I was born in September of 1981 and the earliest TV memory I have is of the Prime time soap, Dallas. It was 1984 and J.R. was being stalked. The stalker entered J.R.'s office and someone was sitting in the swivel chair behind the desk with his/her back to the stalker. Suddenly, the stalker raised a gun and shot three or four times through the chair. The person sitting in the chair dropped the phone reciever and fell out of the chair and onto the floor. Low and behold, the person who was shot was not J.R. but it was his brother Bobby.

This was the cliffhanger for the 1983-1984 season and this is my earliest TV memory. I think I saw this in September of 1984, during the 1984-1985 season premiere they showed what happened at the end of the previous season and then the opening credits rolled. I remember this because when he fell to the floor I would always get scared to death. Other then that particular scene, my other earliest memory was of Dallas's opening sequence.

I remember All in the family and The Jeffersons because my grandma watched them. I also remember Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Three's Company, Different Strokes, and FOL in primetime. The Odd Couple and Emergency! I remember early on but they were syndicated reruns.

I was born in 1972. I remember seeing that show Alice alot. I also remember BJ and the Bear and bits and pieces of the 1976 summer Olympic games. The Muppets was the 1st show that I really got into though. I was about 5 or 6. I also remember when Diff'rent Strokes and Facts of Life 1st came on.

* seeing Saturday Night Live at a YOUNG age, and Eddie Murphy was playing Buckwheat from the Little Rascals. AND, he was killed. I was so upset!

* Friday nights would be The Dukes of Hazard, Dallas and Falcon Crest

* I remember (before we got cable at my parents) being able to get this new station called FOX.

There are countless memories, but those are some of my early recollections...

I was born in 1985. I used to love watching Nickelodeon and the earliest shows I can remember watching are You Can't Do That On Television, Mister Ed, Dennis the Menace, and Flipper. I also (vaguely) remember when the Disney Channel aired Danger Bay. Danger Bay was a cool show.

Well, Newhart Fan, as you know, I'm right there with you! One of my earliest TV recollections was a 1950s show called "The People's Choice", starring Jackie Cooper. The reason I remember that show was because there was a Bassett Hound on the show named Cleo, who would often look into the camera, and let the audience know what she was thinking. As a young child, I was really in awe of Cleo! (I think Ann Sothern's voice was used for Cleo).

Someone else mentioned cigarette commercials. I remember when "The Flintstones" ran in prime time, and was sponsored by Winston cigarettes. They had cartoon commercials with Fred and Barney smoking Winstons, and singing the company's jingle! ("Winston tastes good like a cigarette should"). Can you imagine that! Fred Flintstone doing a cigarette commercial! ....and to think they were upset about "Joe Camel"!

metoo!! they had flipper on nickelodeon.. i also used to watch patty duke and full house growing pains.. all those sitcoms.. i just remember after certain shows my mom would make me go to bed..

also as i got older i used to read doogie howsers computer, everytime the episode was over he used to type.. and i felt all big and cool because i knew all the words.. lol..

Back in the day when I was little (the 80s) I remember watching Nickelodeon a lot. I watched a bunch of cartoons & The Elephant Show even though I couldn't stand them singing about everything! I remember FOL & thinking Blair was pretty & Natalie was funny. I also remember The Larry Sanders Show (I think that's what it was called) LA Law, Mama's Family, & a lot of other shows!!!! I liked 80's TV.

Well, I was born in April of 1983 and the show I remember first watching was either the Cosby show or The Golden Girls I don't remeber which one it was but my parents watched those shows all the time.

Seeing an ID slide for WPTZ-TV channel 3 Philadelphia which was a LONG time ago. And watching Popeye cartoons hosted by Sally Starr on WFIL-TV channel 6 Philadelphia.

Later, in the 1960s, after having moved west to the desolate Mountain time zone...when visiting in the NYC area, wondering why the audio on the network programs sounded so much better on channels 2/4/7 there than at home. And I didn't sleep until I found out that the AT&T long-lines had a 5 kHz audio bandwith limitation as opposed to a local station's 15 kHz audio...and since the network shows were originated in the same facility as the NYC O&O (or just a local loop away)...

And the 35mm films looked a far site better that the 16mm reduction prints we were "blessed" with at home on some of the shows (almost all of the ABC shows).

I too grew up in the Philadelphia area, and remember watching Sally Starr's program in the afternoons on Channel Six! In addition to Popeye cartoons, she use to show The Three Stooges shorts, "Clutch Cargo" and "Space Angel" cartoons. She's still around! "Our Gal Sal" still makes personal appearances around the Phila. area, and plays Country music on a Sunday afternoon radio show at a South Jersey station. She also has a web site:

You're probably about the same age as me, so I'm sure you also remember Gene London, Bertie the Bunyip, Chief Halftown, Happy the Clown, and Pixanne (a real babe!) just to name a few. Believe it or not, Chief Halftown was still on the air until about 3 or 4 years ago! He's in his upper 80s, and retired now.
