HALLMARK CHANNEL ACQUIRES EXCLUSIVE LICENSE TO DOMESTIC TELEVISION RIGHTS TO EXTENSIVE LIFESTYLE CONTENT FROM LIBRARY OF MARTHA STEWART LIVING OMNIMEDIA
Network to Introduce New Daytime Lifestyle Programming Block March 29 in Advance of September Premiere of Original Episodes Of "The Martha Stewart Show"
Hallmark Channel has acquired an exclusive license for domestic television rights to extensive lifestyle programming from the library of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. (MSLO, NYSE: MSO). The content will form a new seven-hour daytime block of home and lifestyle programming that the network will launch weekdays beginning Monday, March 29 and will precede the September premiere on Hallmark Channel of exclusive original episodes of the Emmy(R) Award-winning, popular daytime home and lifestyle series "The Martha Stewart Show."
Announcement of the deal, which underscores the network's commitment to the lifestyle genre generally and the Martha Stewart brand in particular, was made today by Bill Abbott, President and CEO, Hallmark Channels (Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel) and Charles A. Koppelman, Executive Chairman of MSLO. Hallmark Channel is a cable television network owned and operated by Crown Media Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWN).
Beginning March 29 (11 a.m. - 6 p.m. ET/PT), Hallmark Channel's lineup will include episodes from the library programs "From Martha's Kitchen," "From Martha's Home" and "From Martha's Garden." Other titles in the library, but not yet scheduled, are "Petkeeping with Marc Morrone," early seasons of "Everyday Food," "Martha Stewart Living" and assorted specials. Episodes of the series will also be presented in shorter blocks on Saturdays and Sundays (6 a.m. - 9 a.m. ET/PT) beginning April 3-4.
Hallmark Channel's prime time and weekend schedule will continue to feature its strong slate of popular Hallmark Channel Original Movies starring favorite stars of film and television, as well as specials, "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentations and beloved acquired series.
"In addition to being genuinely informative and entertaining, this daytime programming block will showcase the diverse creativity that has long defined the Martha Stewart brand," said Abbott. "As we evolve our daytime lineup into a lifestyle and home orientation, this timeless content will serve as the ideal launch pad for and the perfect segue into the premiere of The Martha Stewart Show' in its new home on Hallmark Channel."
Koppelman stated: "This new arrangement provides an ideal home for our evergreen and ever popular library of Martha Stewart-branded how-to television programming. The agreement underscores the value of MSLO's library that has been developed over these years. The library includes many popular classics featuring Martha and MSLO's talented experts that our loyal fans as well as newcomers will be delighted to find with this additional programming block on Hallmark Channel."

This is very sad, the downfall of a channel. Did Martha Stewart buy Hallmark? One or two hours of her shows would have been fine but seven straight hours is pathetic.

The worst part is they repeat the exact same lineup afterwords. 3.5 hours would still be a lot but it would be more tolerable than 7.

well, there goes the hallmark channel
This is very sad, the downfall of a channel. Did Martha Stewart buy Hallmark? One or two hours of her shows would have been fine but seven straight hours is pathetic. Downfall? Hallmark hasn't been good for ages. Everytime I turn it on now it's 7th Heaven. I don't think she bought it, but I wouldn't be surprised if her programming begins to take more of the schedule up (prime-time specials, etc). With this, I think all hope is gone when it comes to getting any new shows on Hallmark.

I stated in the other Hallmark thread that Martha Stewart would be coming in a major way on the channel, but I was basically poo-pooed....so ahem..
Yes, you were right. I just wish this network would go ahead and change to something else. Their tired 3 or 4 series they are obsessed with (seriously, I love The Golden Girls, but they wore the show out) and constant changes are a joke. Give it to Martha and be done with it already. Oprah is taking over Discovery Health, maybe Martha could do something similar with Hallmark.
According to what they wrote on their Facebook page, Hallmark is going to be adding more talk shows, a series on pets, and more things this fall. I guess that will launch and air along with Martha's show that comes that comes this fall. I bet all of this will take up 9AM-7PM or something like that and air in late nights eventually.

Were the first couple of years of this network good? My cable provider didn't actually start carrying the station until late '05. While there were a few programs that I liked then (Walker Texas Ranger, The Waltons), I was pretty disappointed.
In 2001-2002 they had ALF, My Three Sons, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, and Happy Days, Facts of Life...a little later they had Perry Mason, Gilligan's Island (last time it was in syndication), Beverly Hillbillies, and Hogan's Heroes but those didn't air much.

Yes, Martha bombed! And Touched by an Angel is back. great news :D
Same shows over...and over....and over. Can they just not acquire any new sitcoms/dramas? I love The Golden Girls but that's the only sitcom they'll show at a reasonable time. And the same 3 dramas keep getting thrown at us. Ugh. Enough already. 7th Heaven is going to soon be on 2 other networks. I like LHOTP but they've run it to death. I'm indifferent about TBAA but they've aired it heavily for quite a while. Can they just not get a wider selection of shows?
I knew the Martha-ness wasn't gonna last. I love her shows, actually, but that was overkill. Not that three hours each of LHOTP and 7th and 2 each of TBAA and GG aren't, but eh. I love Hallmark, always have and always will. They just need to broaden their horizons a bit (*cough*DALLAS?!*cough*).

I miss the Perry Mason, Matlock, Waltons, Rawhide days...

What they need to do is to stop this constant show shuffle--no wonder they can't attract viewers! Because viewers don't know what to watch, when to watch, or why to watch a network that changes its mind every other week.
I was thinking, what about Hallmark getting some shows like Hunter, MacGyver, Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, etc since they like dramas? Even maybe bring back Matlock or JAG. A bit old, but shows like those would be a nice change IMO. Their shows are exhausted (LHOTP, TBAA and 7th....I'm so sick of them, 7th is on enough channels). Add new shows to afternoons and air the ones currently airing in the AM. Golden Girls are wearing their welcome out and need to be reduced. Maybe get another sitcom or 2. I remember back in the day they used to actually have some dynamic programming sometimes.
They may not be able to attract viewers because they are sick of what the channel has to offer.

I had a feeling the Martha programming wasn't going to last long before they reduced it. Glad they decided to. It really was overkill.
They really, really should look into getting more shows, or at least air more of what they have.
A nice line-up based on what they already have could be:
9-11am Martha programs
11am Little House
12pm Touched by an Angel
1-2pm I Love Lucy
2-3pm The Golden Girls
3-4pm Cheers
4-5pm M*A*S*H
5-7pm 7th Heaven
7-9pm Touched by an Angel
9-11pm Movie
11pm-1am The Golden Girls
1-2am I Love Lucy
2-3am Cheers
3-4am America's Funniest Home Videos
There. That includes all the shows they have rights too (I think), with what seem to be heavy hitters at key times (Angel, Heaven, Golden Girls) and what doesn't seem to always work at reduced hour-long blocks (Cheers, Lucy, AFV).

Martha isn't going away, folks.....The Martha Stewart Show moves from syndication to Hallmark in the fall. Hallmark has made a deal with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for programming. The owners of this channel have made it clear in Daily Variety that they want to move the channel into the lifestyle business. So dreams of adding more classic TV just won't happen anytime soon, if ever, under the current regime.

As far as I know, they are not getting any more TV series for the day. They really need to air new shows that fit their schedule of shows. Perhaps Mama's Family, Life Goes On, Eight is Enough, The Love Boat, and returning The Waltons. Those all have the Hallmark-feel.
If Hallmark is trying to become a "lifestyle" network, more power to them, because they sure haven't gotten off to a good start.
Pavan, is The Wonder Years available in syndication? I've thought for ages it would be perfect for Hallmark. It would be a nice late-night show. I don't see Martha Stewart or any of these shows they air now helping increase their ratings.

the people who run this channel do not know what they want......at all. While it does not bother me that Martha has been removed for the most part, if you're gonna do something, stick with it for at least a quarter of the year......I can understand running something for 3 months and if ratings didn't improve, make changes, but this is every other week with Hallmark......SOMEBODY BUY THIS CHANNEL AND SAVE IT FROM THESE IDIOTS!!

Maybe it will do slightly better, but I don't think it will do great. Will they bring these specialty shows of Martha's back, run her daily show, or what? It doesn't look like Martha Stewart is going to do that great for Hallmark.
The Martha Stewart thing was not a good idea. JMO

Tomorrow I'm announcing an AWESOME scoop on the blog! A sitcom is coming to Hallmark! Yes, a sitcom! I think mostly everyone here will be HAPPY! And also yet more changes prior to this addition. Stay tuned tomorrow at noon!
I'm guessing Lucy will be removed or cut back.
I wish they would bring Mama's Family or The Wonder Years, but I'm not going to get excited.

Duh me! Wouldn't surprise me if that was it then. It's not in syndication anywhere and Hallmark aired it back in 2001.
Regardless, I'm glad to see Hallmark getting a sitcom to go along with Lucy (if she stays), Golden Girls, and Cheers. I like it. They need something new very badly.

I've got an idea. Why don't halmark air some shows that haven't been seen in years? Such as The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, Mama's Family, and many others. Here's what halmark could do.
8:00 - 9:00AM: I Love Lucy
9:00 - 10:00AM:The Golden Girls
10:00 - 11:00AM: Little House On The Prairie
11:00AM - 12:00 Noon: Mama's Family
12:00PM - 1:00: 7th Heaven
1:00PM - 2:00PM The Golden Girls. Repeat of 9:00 - 10:00AM episodes.
2:00PM - 3:00PM: 7th Heaven
3:00PM - 4:00PM: I Love Lucy
4:00PM - 5:00PM: The Lucy Show
5:00PM - 6:00PM: Here's Lucy
Please let me know what you'd think of this schedule. Thanks.

Interesting, but nice pick-up!
But, my question...how is Martha Stewart going to fit in to all of this? I still don't think Hallmark is going to become a "lifestyle" channel (regardless of what they say....it wouldn't work anyway), but she seems out of place. I think Hallmark would have been better off putting that money towards more scripted shows. We already have had a preview of how she will probably do although the shows in the fall will be new.
Thank God (no pun intended) 7th Heaven is going. I think I'm sicker of seeing that on there than TBAA.
Thanks Hallmark! Just keep Lucy and you'll have the best schedule in ages!

LOVE this pickup and I wasn't expecting it at all!
I am only cautiously happy though given Hallmark's quick trigger record but the good thing about Hallmark is they almost always bring back shows they drop. Anyways, I am very excited to see WTB? again. I loved when it was on ION and N@N but both were for a short time. Also, it'll be nice to see Alyssa Milano back in a GOOD sitcom!

Obviously, the show is doing well enough to still air a couple of hours in the morning. Fortunately, in recent years, they bring shows back that they pull, like Lucy and Cheers - unlike FOL, Family Ties, etc.
If they keep the May 17th schedule for a month, I think the ratings will go up. It is by FAR the best schedule they have had in the past couple of years, a little bit of everything. It's more focused (TBAA will be the only non-classic show). They are going to have trouble this fall if Martha fails....aren't they locked in to that unlike the garden, kitchen, etc shows? I wonder when it will air, 11am and encore in the evening?

Since Hallmark will be the exclusive home to The Martha Stewart Show (which is leaving broadcast syndication)--a safe bet that Hallmark is locked into this, so they can't be a ying-yang on the schedule with her flagship show.

Really, TBAA is close to 20 years old, I think it qualifies as a classic. By Hallmark's standards, at least.
Martha's show will most likely be on their schedule no matter what for at least a season. Them taking it off would be just like canceling it, so they have to stick with it for a year at least unless they make some deal with the production company. I don't see it doing very well or very bad...I'd just stick it in the old mid-morning timeslot it was getting in most markets when it first premiered, maybe as a bridge between whatever they have in the morning (Lucy?) and whatever they have at noon-time (WTB? or maybe something else by then).

I'm really torn about how well her show will do....will all of her viewers from broadcast (and Fine Living, lol) flock to Hallmark to watch her there, which could do much better than what Hallmark has traditionally aired in the morning? She just seems a little out of place. According to Wikipedia, her show has never done very well but does well in the 18-45 female demographic. Heck, I thought Emeril's show on Ion would do well, but it obviously didn't.
I hope they don't try to revive those garden/kitchen/home shows again come fall. That Martha overdose they did last month was the worst thing they have ever done.

Cheers has had a more consistent run than Lucy....at least late nights. I think Mama's Family would be a great fit for Hallmark.
Good to see WTB? today.
If they keep the shows they have now, I would do this for the fall:
9AM-11AM I Love Lucy
11AM-12PM Martha
12PM-2PM Who's The Boss
2PM-4PM Little House
4PM-5PM TBAA
5PM-6PM Martha (encore, I guess they are going to?)
6PM-8PM MASH
8PM-9PM TBAA
9PM-11PM Movie
11PM-1AM Golden Girls
1AM-4AM Cheers (or WTB at 3 and Lucy at 3:30)
I really don't know, but I think that would work best. That is taking in to account that Lucy stays (for all we know, they might pull it several times and it may be back around that time) and WTB works (as well as that no new shows are added). If both failed to be on the schedule then, they could do Golden Girls 9-11AM and bring back 7th Heaven from 12PM-2PM. Are they going to encore Martha? That is something to take in to consideration.
Thoughts?

Does anyone know how well "Who's The Boss?" is doing as far as ratings go? I would like it do do well enough to at least keep it on for at least one full cycle.
It must be doing decently because Hallmark would have pulled it by now if it wasn't.
In honor of Rue McLanahan, Hallmark will air the original movie with her and Lisa Hartman-Black "Back to You & Me" Saturday at 11AM and 9PM.

Two Original Series Picked Up for 2010, Anchored By A New Season of 'The Martha Stewart Show,' 'Mad Hungry with Lucinda' and a New One-Hour Talk Show Executive-Produced by Emmy(R) Award-winning Writer and Director David Steinberg and Featuring Sirius Radio's 'Whatever' Duo, Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt
Hallmark Channel Also Greenlights Two Hour-Long Primetime Interview Specials and Two Holiday Specials Starring Martha Stewart
New York, June 7, 2010 -- On the heels of the multi-year strategic partnership announced earlier this year, executives from Hallmark Channel and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia today revealed the original "how-to" programming block set to launch exclusively on the cable network this fall. The slate of new programming is anchored by the debut of the Emmy(R) Award-winning series "The Martha Stewart Show" on Hallmark Channel beginning September 13th at 10:00-11:00 a.m., ET/PT weekdays.
"The Martha Stewart Show," nominated for two Daytime Emmy(R) Awards last month in the categories of Best Lifestyle Show and Best Lifestyle Host, will continue to air from New York City with a live studio audience. Named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the best food shows on television, Martha Stewart will continue covering subjects near and dear to her heart encompassing all aspects of living.
"Everyone at Hallmark Channel is thrilled to be welcoming Martha Stewart to our family this September," said Bill Abbott, President and CEO, Hallmark Channels. "It is a watershed time for us. Not only are we working with the acknowledged leader in cooking, decor, design and gardening, but we also have the opportunity to develop a fully integrated lifestyle block of programming on multiple platforms which speaks to the strengths of both Hallmark Channel and Martha Stewart. We believe it will speak to our viewers, distributors and advertisers."
Martha Stewart said: "With Hallmark Channel we have found a perfect home for our programming, and I'm excited that we will be able to offer audiences even more of the informative, entertaining and inspiring content they want and expect from us."
Charles Koppelman, MSLO's Executive Chairman and Principal Executive Officer stated: "For some time, it has been a strategic goal to expand our broadcasting presence and further cultivate the deep pool of talent we have at our company. With Hallmark Channel, a brand that is compatible with our mission and values, all the pieces have come together. We now have an on-air destination for Martha Stewart followers and are better positioned than ever to serve the women who identify with our brand on a network that reaches 90 million households."
New Programming
Following "The Martha Stewart Show," Hallmark Channel will air two new series: Between 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., ET/PT, weekdays, the network will air an hour-long topical talk show, executive-produced by Emmy Award-winning writer and director David Steinberg and hosted by Sirius XM's "Whatever" hosts Alexis Stewart and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt. The show will have an intimate studio audience and provide a unique platform for the humorous duet to explore the daily headlines and everyday issues on the minds of viewers across the country. The home audience will be engaged through call-in and Skype-ing opportunities throughout the hour.
From 12:00 - 12:30 p.m., ET/PT, weekdays, Hallmark Channel will premiere "Mad Hungry with Lucinda." Lucinda Scala Quinn is the ubiquitous Executive Food Editor at MSLO, host of the radio show "EatDrink" on Sirius XM and author of popular cookbooks including her most recent title, Mad Hungry: Feeding Men & Boys. Lucinda's goal with the show is to bring family back to the dinner table. Lucinda will reveal her tips on how she has conquered the challenge of whetting the appetite of her husband and three sons.
Everyday Food Series
Following Lucinda, from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., ET/PT, weekdays, Hallmark will air seasons one through four of the critically acclaimed series "Everyday Food," offering quick, easy and practical cooking solutions. The series brings to life MSLO's award-winning Everyday Food magazine and is complemented by the popular iPhone app, Martha's Everyday Food.
From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., ET/PT, weekdays, Hallmark Channel will put the spotlight on select episodes from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's extensive library of programming including "From Martha's Kitchen," "From Martha's Home" and "From Martha's Garden," among others.
There will be encore airings of "The Martha Stewart Show" at 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., ET/PT, weekdays enabling millions of viewers to have access to the program in the afternoon.
Prime-Time Specials with Martha Stewart
Martha is preparing two prime-time specials celebrating Halloween and Christmas. The hour-long programs will focus on the crafts, traditions and history of these two viewer-favorite holidays.
Martha is also preparing two prime-time in-depth interview specials featuring extremely fascinating innovators and doers in the fields of entertainment, politics and culture.
Fail. I don't see any of that working except maybe Martha Stewart's show. The stuff from 12:30-4 didn't work before, why do they think it will work in the fall?
(Keep in mind, I can't stand Martha, for all I care she could go off TV and never come back on.)

12:00pm Mad Hungry with Lucinda
12:30pm Everyday Food

3:00pm Little House on the Prarie

6:00pm & 6:30pm The Golden Girls
7:00pm & 7:30pm Who's the Boss?

9:00pm Movie
11:00pm-1:00am The Golden Girls
1:00am-3:00am Cheers
3:00am & 3:30am I Love Lucy
I hope they would try a schedule like that, Pav, if the Martha programming doesn't work again in those times.
They better hope these shows do well.....I think Martha might do decently, but the others I'm not sure about. They are probably locked in for a full season. This stuff needs to be left to HGTV, Food, Oprah's new network, etc. Look how Emeril did on Ion. Just doesn't look too good to me.
I wish Hallmark had the finances and would start a 3rd channel dedicated to pre-90s sitcoms and dramas, similar to their movie channel....since the main channel appears to be moving away from that. There is a need for some more older shows on cable TV.

If they are going to do this, they better be prepared to stay committed to this. Martha's magazines (Living, Everyday Food) have had ads for "Classic Martha" 7am-9am......and that schedule was pulled before the ads appeared in print--what an embarrassment.
They should just rename Hallmark channel "Martha's Channel" since it seems like that's all they're going to be airing. Yuck.
Yet another channel that I will turn off and not watch...

Ben--there is a contract with Martha. If Hallmark yanks her again, they will most likely have to pay out their noses.....so I see them staying committed to the flagship show for at least a year.
Would "Classic Martha" be past episodes of her show, I guess? Talk about overload! I wonder if that will air at 9AM now. They run paid programming from 4-9am, unless they plan on getting rid of that.
I don't have a good feeling about this. They can't stay committed to anything long enough to be signing agreements. I would think they could get out of the extra Martha shows from 1-4 and the encores, but not the main show and the other original shows unless they wanted to cancel them, which would be a big deal. They can't program reruns (although, they are doing better lately), I can't imagine talk shows. I can't believe they are promoting something that's already been changed.....big mistake, Martha Stewart.

"Classic Martha" stands for those shows culled from her old "Martha Stewart Living" syndicated show--"From Martha's Kitchen", "From Martha's Garden" and "From Martha's Home". Although I hear now they plan to rerun the original unedited format of "Martha Stewart Living".
Oh, OK. Thanks for the explanation.
Maybe Martha should just buy Hallmark and do the channel like Oprah is going to do Discovery Health (turning it in to OWN). I can't for the life of me see how even her biggest fan could watch that much Martha all day.

I can't imagine who would want to sit through that much Martha all day. I know we're all sitcom lovers here, but a rerun of I Love Lucy over Martha is a no-brainer. I can't imagine what Hallmark is thinking - Martha is an acquired taste. Anyone can sit down and watch an episode of I Love Lucy or The Golden Girls. How low do they want ratings to go?

Does anyone know if the daytime numbers for Hallmark are available anywhere online? I'd like to see them now and compare them with the fall ones when Martha launches.
This "lifestyle" crap and extra Martha shows is worthless and stupid. I think Martha's new show may do alright, but I think everything else will flop.
We don't know the ratings for I Love Lucy, Who's The Boss, or The Golden Girls....but they are mass appeal and will attract more viewers than Martha, who has more of a "cult" following I'd think. How could a Martha Stewart show from 2002 do better than a Golden Girls or Lucy episode? This could really hit them hard. At least they are being a little more stable with the schedule right now.

What a nice pleasant surprise.....Hopefully Hallmark realizes that people want to be entertained and there's room for all types of shows on the network. Maybe they are also realizing that their itchy trigger finger has not done them any favors with winning viewers!
It's a shame they're finally exploring sitcoms right before Martha and company destroy the schedule. I think Hallmark would be a good candidate for a classic TV channel, or to offer a lot of it if they didn't have those shows coming. Most everything they show now is classics.
I hope that lifestyle programming doesn't last longer than it has to. IMO, all of that Martha won't do as well as what is airing now. There is more potential in older TV shows than Martha Stewart programming all day.
Lucy has almost cycled through entirely! I can't believe it!
It would be fantastic if they had a deal with Sony, but I doubt it. I wish they could get deals like Ion did (and didn't use much of).

Yeah, I agree. Although based on that quote from Hallmark we still may see some of, if not all, of these sitcoms remain on the network in some capacity come Fall, when Martha will take over the channel lol
Nice acquisition in Patridge Family. I last remember watching it on my local UPN during the Screen Gems Network hour. They used to normally have Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie but would also have Patridge Family sometimes too.
Hallmark Channel will run a marathon of I Love Lucy this Sunday, July 11th, from 9AM-4AM (all day).

It's really going to be a shame when come fall, this entire lineup is scratched for Martha. This is obviously the best lineup they've had yet - we haven't seen any schedule changes in ages. I haven't seen it since it aired on ION. I'm really remembering just how great it is. I have that same gripe with the intro. And, also, they're in season 6, and they're not using the season 6 theme. If you remember, they switched to a softer, more mellow version of the theme song for seasons 6-8, as well as a new opening credit sequence with updated clips. For some reason, Hallmark is airing the season 4-5 opening with season 6. Not sure why.

I really wish we could see some sort of ratings figures for Hallmark. I'd love to see exactly what each show is pulling in. They've kept this lineup since WTB? joined, so it has to be doing very well for them. I don't remember the last time they kept a lineup for this long.
Their edits aren't the best. I hate how they cut to commercials about 3 minutes in. But I guess I shouldn't complain, as long as we have these shows on the schedule. I really do hope Hallmark keeps this lineup and decides against doing Martha programming during the day. I wouldn't mind Martha during the morning hours, but daytime should be kept to classic programming.

The afternoon Martha specialty shows are optional I'm sure since they are reruns. I just wonder if the channel had been where it is now when they decided to air these lifestyle shows if they would have gone with the same decision.
BTW: Little House on the Prairie. Does anyone know how Hallmark will be affected next month when TV Land loses the rights? Does their contract expire as well, do they get full time rights, what?
Hallmark Movie Channel has added Murder, She Wrote airing at 12AM and 1AM weekdays and Matlock at 8PM and 9PM weekdays. Both are leftovers from Hallmark.
Dare I say...re-tool HMC and put the classic TV series there if the old channel is going to be lifestyle shows??

Another reason I like Hallmark so much more than TV Land.
I don't think they did ANY repeats during the Lucy marathon....and it was what, 19 hours? TV Land is horrid about repeating episodes in short marathons these days. Just try watching Andy Griffith on Saturday and Sunday - it's impossible, that's the show they are worst with. They repeat them to death, sometimes within several hours or at the almost exact times on both days.
Anyway, I enjoyed the Lucy marathon, and I'm glad they seem to do well....I wish they'd do a Partridge Family one since it doesn't get much exposure.

Really? That would be an odd choice of drama, but I haven't seen Dawson's Creek in ages, and wouldn't mind watching it again, especially in evenings. My guess is MASH will be gone. But, Touched by an Angel and MASH could both get reduced airings. Although, Pavan did say one show will be removed, so I'd have to imagine this won't be the case.
I can't really guess what drama it could be. I'd love to see something that might fit in with their programming, like Life Goes On or thirtysomething, something like those lines, but I doubt it.

Could they be bringing back Dr. Quinn, perhaps? Any kind of mystery-type show would likely go to HMC, where they are airing Matlock and MSW. Dawson's Creek doesn't seem like it would fit well or mesh with the Hallmark audience. Funny they're going on a shopping spree lately (for them) with Martha starting this fall.
I think MASH will get the boot, because: it's the only show that can't be moved on the schedule. They can't air it from 8pm-8am and don't like to show it in the morning, apparently. TBAA could be moved later in the evening if it was being replaced, same for all of the other shows. MASH is either all or nothing, seemingly. The new show will probably air from 5-7 or something.

I can confirm it isn't Dawson's Creek. No way does that fit. You'll see in little over an hour from now on the blog, but expect a similar style drama like Little House/Touched by an Angel. They haven't aired it before, but it fits.

I agree, I was disappointed in The Partridge Family. I had seen it before, but after watching it again, I just wasn't in to it. I would rather see The Brady Bunch.
As a side note: Hallmark posted about Martha coming on their Facebook page, and the reaction is absolutely terrible.

Yeah, Brady Bunch would be a good fit on Hallmark.
Well, if Martha programming airs from 10AM-6PM, let's say we can air the sitcoms from at least 8AM-10AM (if not earlier, don't know if they do paid programming), and then from 6PM onwards.
I agree, Brady Bunch would have been better. Maybe Partridge was cheaper?
Anyone care to guess what they will do this fall? I'm expecting something along the lines of this:
8:00AM-9:00AM I Love Lucy 2X
9:00AM-10:00AM The Golden Girls 2X
10AM-6PM Martha Stewart / Lifestyle Programming
6:00PM-7:00PM Little House on the Prairie
7:00PM-9:00PM Touched By An Angel 2X
9:00PM-11:00PM Movie
11:00PM-12:00AM The Golden Girls 2X
12:00AM-1:00AM Who's The Boss? 2X
1:00AM-2:00AM I Love Lucy 2X
2:00AM-4:00AM Cheers 4X
Remember, if the afternoon 30 minute Martha shows fail again (Garden, Kitchen, Home), they can probably get out of those as they did in April.

Is anybody else shocked "Who's the Boss?" has lasted on the Hallmark channel these last few months? And 2 hours straight every weekday at that. It's been on for a few months now. I find it a little odd that aside from The Cosby Show, Cheers, and The Golden Girls, Who's the Boss? is the only '80s sitcom that seems to be successful right now in syndication. It didn't seem to work anywhere else, but it's going strong on Hallmark.

Don't be surprised if The Cosby Show is the next acquisition Hallmark makes. I doubt it will stay out of national syndication long and really has nowhere else to go except maybe TV One.

It ran two complete cycles on ION, and was pulled right after starting its third.
WTB? has just started its second cycle on Hallmark. I cannot believe they actually showed all the episodes. I thought we'd never make it to those final seasons, but I'm glad we did - it was nice to see those later episodes, including the series finale, again.
I just hope it keeps a spot on the schedule come September.
WTB? has also aired on ABC Family (early 2000s?) and Nick at Nite from 2004 to 2006 I believe. I know it was a big failure on NAN. Who knows how it did on ION, because their expectations were probably significantly lower, especially back then.
I'm just shocked it's stayed on Hallmark because they are so quick to remove shows or move them around, and I wasn't really sure it would fit there...similar 80s sitcoms (Facts of Life, Family Ties) that weren't huge shows like Cheers or Golden Girls never had a chance.

I think the move to 10pm, as well as the double airings 9-11pm, eventually killed it. By the end of its run, I believe it was down to just 300-400,000 viewers an episode. I believe it did really well though earlier on. Definitely remember a press release talking about an increase in women's demographics. If I had to guess, it does very well in the female demo on Hallmark, which it's primary audience.

Schedule change!
Beginning Monday, August 23, 2010
Weeknights
6:00pm-8:00pm Who's the Boss 4x (replaces Doc and Touched By An Angel)
Doc is off the line-up, while Touched remains at 8pm. Who's the Boss? remains 1-3pm, too. The 6-8pm airings will start from the pilot.
Stay tuned for the fall schedule soon. They are making changes and seeing what will work in and out of the Martha block that is why I haven't posted yet.
That's a lot of WTB?. I'm not surprised Doc failed, surprised it lasted this long. I'm thinking Lucy will air in the morning and/or late nights, with Golden Girls and WTB? in the evening/night and Cheers late nights. TBAA will probably stay where it is...maybe Little House at 7pm? Or is it expiring since its shared contract with TV Land is?
I think Martha will be a failure, not sure about the other shows. It has never done well. It'll probably be like Emeril on Ion.

Wow at Who's the Boss?. It must be doing extremely well for them. Could those 6-8pm airings carry over into the fall? I would absolutely love it if Hallmark left it there when Martha comes. While 1-3pm is nice, 6-8pm is just as good to watch it. I'd have to agree with Chris. Seems like WTB?, Touched by an Angel, and Golden Girls will make up their late evening/primetime, while Lucy and Cheers will remain in mornings and latenight. It makes the most sense.

Yeah, it's clear that they're testing if this 6-8pm block is good for Who's the Boss. It probably will be. ABC Family aired it during similar times for years.
I agree with you guys, Lucy 8-10, Martha 10-6, WTB 6-8, Touched at 8 and Golden Girls maybe 9-11 or something. Not entirely sure how their primetime lineup will be and also overnight but it definitely makes most sense to air I Love Lucy from 8-10am weekdays. Maybe some of Martha will fail and they can air some more sitcoms in certain portions of the afternoon.
So what's happening to Little House?

Was it a shared contract with TV Land? If not, then it's a totally different contract (although, it could by fluke by ending at around the same time).
We need a page on this site somewhere where we have each cable network listed followed by a list of all their programs and expiration dates. It would come in handy so often because we hardly know those details.
Yes. TV Land got a contract in September 2005 for LHOTP and it was shared with Hallmark...Hallmark gets daytime (6am-6pm) and TV Land evenings/nights (6pm-6am). That's why I'm wondering how it will affect Hallmark. I guess it'll expire.

That seems the most reasonable, and the most well-balanced. If Hallmark can somehow renew rights to Little House (it airs for 3 hours in the afternoon; it must do well for them), I could see it airing 6-8pm, with Who's the Boss? airing 9-11pm (I could also see Golden Girls airing 9-11pm, with Who's the Boss? airing 11pm-1am). 9pm-11pm Movie
11pm-1am Golden Girls
1am-4am Cheers
Meanwhile, I Love Lucy will continue airing mornings and latenights Saturday and Sunday, which leaves Who's the Boss? and Little House as the only shows off the lineup. Since Little House is expiring, really, WTB? is the only show without a timeslot on the fall schedule. And IMO, that absolutely sucks. It's one of the only reasons I watch Hallmark. They have enough slots for 8 episodes of The Golden Girls, 6 episodes of Cheers, 2 episodes of Touched by an Angel, and even a terrible show like Doc, yet they completely neglect a fantastic sitcom like WTB? Okay. But, knowing Hallmark and their past, they would be stupid enough to create a fall schedule like this. I just don't want to see it happen. Each show in the schedule now should get equal amount of airtime with Martha coming, especially since not one show seems to be doing that much better than the other.
This is what I would do (assuming paid programming stays):
8:00AM-10:00AM I Love Lucy
10:00AM-6:00PM Martha/lifestyle
6:00PM-7:00PM Who's The Boss?
7:00PM-8:00PM The Golden Girls
8:00PM-9:00PM Touched By An Angel
9:00PM-11:00PM Movie
11:00PM-12:00AM The Golden Girls
12:00AM-1:00AM Who's The Boss?
1:00AM-2:00AM I Love Lucy
2:00AM-4:00AM Cheers
Weekends:
6:00AM-8:00AM I Love Lucy Sat/ The Golden Girls Sun
8:00AM-1:00PM M*A*S*H (remember, they said it would be back)
1:00PM-5:00PM Little House On The Prairie (if it's renewed)
5:00PM-11:00PM Movies
11:00PM-1:00AM Who's The Boss?
1:00AM-4:00AM Cheers Sat/ I Love Lucy Sun
I was just thinking, with them having less time to air their shows, maybe they shouldn't use the 2-hour program blocks as much anymore - maybe just in the morning and late at night? And maybe devote more weekend time to the syndicated programming as well?
I agree with Julie, if Little House is renewed, it will probably get something in the evening though. I've been enjoying Hallmark so much lately, even watching a few of their movies, it's a shame it's coming to this.

TV Land loses rights to Little House on 8/31, so I would think Hallmark would also since it's a shared deal. If it continues on Hallmark after that, I would assume they've renewed.
