Yes, I saw this guy, he was/is a creep and a killer. However he will never be executed. He is already in his mid 60's so the odds of him ever being executed are extremely slim. In fact I believe he was already on death row before he won a new trial. But yeah, death row in California, the odds of one being executed are almost none. I mean, there are 697, 698 people on California's death row, only 7 are completely out of appeals.

Does anyone know when Alcala was arrested for good? Or when he was in New York state? I've tried finding the information but I can't find specific dates. There are a few cases in New York that might resemble a few pictures.

It seems he was arrested in what 1979, 1980 somewhere in that neighborhood? In fact, at the time he won the Dating Game in 1978 he was already a convicted rapist. He had been convicted of the 1968 rape of an 8 year old girl. At the time, Alcala was 25 years old. He was arrested in 1979 I want to say and was originally convicted in 1980 and sentenced to death. However in 1984 his conviction was overturned and a re-trial ordered. He was convicted and once again sentenced to death. He was in his final stage of appeals when the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals which would be the end of the line for Alcala ordered a re-trial in 2001. The case did not get to re-trial though until this year after almost a decade of legal wrangling. Of course he will get sentenced to death again but he also faces trial in Los Angeles County for I believe 4 killings there he has never been tried for before.

Now, this guy had warning signs for a long time before the dating game. It is unclear when he first started killing, although it is thought he first killed while he was visiting New York City while out on parole in the mid 1970's. In 1968 when he kidnapped and raped that 8 year old girl, he damn near killed her but he fled and was a fugitive for three years before his 1971 capture. He was eventually convicted of child molestation and kidnapping and was later sentenced to 3 to 15 years in prison. He was released after serving 3 years so he was paroled on the first try. Ironically when Alcala was captured in 1971, he was working under an alias as a counselor at an arts and drama camp for teenagers.
When he was returned to California, Alcala pled out to child molestation and kidnapping but a charge of aggravated kidnapping which would have carried a 5 year to life sentence was dropped in exchange for the charge of 'regular' kidnapping. As I said, Alcala was sentenced to 3 to 15 years in prison and was paroled on his first try in 1974. Just two months after his release from his prison that same year, Alcala was found on a beach with a 13 year old girl who claimed Alcala had kidnapped her. Alcala was arrested but not for kidnapping. He was arrested for violating his parole by way of the misdemeanor charge of giving pot to a minor. Alcala was returned to prison but was released again in 1976.
In a stunning turn of events, after his release from prison the 2nd time in 1976, Alcala asked for and received permission from his parole officer to leave Los Angeles County and the State of California to visit relatives in New York City even though Alcala's parole stated he was not allowed to leave the State of California period unless for an emergency situation and he even had to receive permission from his parole officer to even leave Los Angeles County. Alcala made it quite clear the trip was for leisure and he was permitted to go to NYC. It is believed that Alcala first started killing in 1976 while on the trip to NYC.
Now, Alcala was arrested in 1979 for the rape and murder of a 12 year old girl in Orange County. In 1980 he was convicted and sentenced to death. In 1984 on direct appeal he got a new trial from the California Supreme Court. Alcala was returned to Orange County and in 1986 was convicted again and was once again sentenced to death. Alcala's direct and habeas corpus petitions were denied by the California Supreme Court and his federal habeas was also denied by the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana. However the lower court's decision was overturned by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2001 and a new trial ordered.
Alcala is the prime suspect in the 1976 murder of a New York City woman. The reason he is a suspect in his case was after Alaca's arrest in the 12 year old girl's murder, NYC detectives had contacted Orange County detectives and told them that in the NYC woman's datebook she had a meeting planned with a 'John Berger' no one she knew, knew who this man was. However Alcala's name he had used while on the run for 3 years was John Berger.
He has been now been convicted and recommended for death 3 times for the 1979 rape and murder of the 12 year old girl in Orange County. However in 2003, while Alcala was still in prison, after a court injunction had been dismissed he and everyone else on California's death row had been ordered to give DNA samples, tests which Alcala had opposed and by all accounts had to be forced into giving.
The DNA samples were immediately compared against all cold cases in Los Angeles County. In 2003, two hits came back. Alcala's DNA matched semen left at the rape and murder of a Malibu woman in 1977 and a 32 year old Santa Monica woman whose body had been found in an El Segundo laundry room in 1978. In 2004, detectives got another hit when Alcala's DNA was found to also match the semen left on the body of an 18 year old woman who had been found raped and murdered outside of Marlon Brando's Mulholland Drive home in 1977.
Incredibly, Alcala in the 1977 was able to get a job at the Los Angeles Times as a typesetter. Ironically Alcala in 1978 was a prime suspect and had been under investigation by the LAPD and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's joint Hillside Strangler Task Force. Those murders were still unsolved at the time and Alcala was put under watch, and was followed. Eventually he was interviewed in March of 1978. After the interview, he was ruled out as a suspect but was jailed for a short time because Marijuana was found in his possession and he was on parole. Alcala was jailed for a month on the parole violation and once again released. Just weeks after his release from jail he appeared on the dating game.
In January of 1979, Alcala was arrested again in Riverside County, California after a 15 year old female hitchhiker had accused Alcala of kidnapping her and raping her. Alcala was arrested by the Riverside, California Police and he was charged with kidnapping and rape, however his bail was set at $10,000 dollars which was easily posted by Alcala's family and he was back on the streets. While he was out on bail over the next few months, in June of 1979 he raped and murdered a 21 year old woman in her Burbank, California apartment. Alcala has also been matched by DNA to that case although he has not yet been charged. 6 days after the young woman was murdered, the 12 year old girl in Orange County disappeared.
The 12 year old girl and a friend had gone swimming that day and were walking back to their homes when a man approached and asked if he could take their pictures. He ran off when a suspicious neighbor approached and asked what the photographer was up to. A short time later the 12 year old girl rode her bike off intending to go to the store and was never seen alive again. The friend and the neighbor helped police with a composite sketch of the suspect. The 12 year old girls dead body was found on July 2nd, 1979. The sketch continued to be circulated and it was recognized by none other than Alcala's own parole officer. Alcala was arrested on July 24th, 1979 and was charged with murder, kidnapping and rape.

I know that this is highly unlikely, but doesn't this woman sort of resemble Amy Billig?

Geez, so did the lady who chose him on The Dating Game just refuse to go out with him because he seemed creepy, or did his parole officer see him and warn her?
