AMC's David Canary Confirms Retirement
After months of whispers, five-time Daytime Emmy winner David Canary has confirmed that he'll be retiring from AMC when his current contract expires (he'll continue to air through April). "My career on ALL MY CHILDREN has given me more than words could ever covey, both professionally and personally," he said in a statement. "I have cherished each and every moment. I would like to thank all the fans who have tuned in throughout the years. Their love and support has meant the world to me. I truly feel that I will leave the show in great hands. The viewers will be happy with how Adam departs the canvas and I know that leaving JR as head of the Chandler household will continue to provide the show with many great stories to come." The actor also indicated a willingness to make guest appearances in the future, noting, "This is not the last you've seen of Adam Chandler. I will be back to check up on the Chandler clan."

AMC Creator Agnes Nixon, who knew of Canary's plans, told Digest in December, "We will miss David Canary very, very much."

What a class act Mr. David Canary is - a true gentleman!! I hope he enjoys retirement - he's earned every bit and then some. :D

This certainly is a big blow to AMC.

I know he will be missed.
AMC has lost or is in the process of losing FOUR veteran leading men - Ray MacDonnell (Joe; who was with the show from day one!) retired, James Mitchell (Palmer) died, Thorsten Kaye (Zach) opted not to move with the show and stayed in NYC, and now David Canary is retiring. Not only that, but so close together!! Losing one or two stars can be a huge blow to any soap, but FOUR??? If they can weather it out and survive, God bless them. I don't think Cameron Mathison or Jacob Young are anywhere near the same caliber as the actors I just mentioned.

I will miss Adam, for sure-he is really the main reason I had a passing interest in the show. Now I will be much less enthused to even follow the story online-much like when OLTL lost Asa.
