Hey all -

I was wondering what you all thought about Saturday nights on the broadcast networks? Every single network has given up on programming Sat nights at least for now but back in the day, shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Golden Girls, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and many others found major success on Saturday nights. Do you think it's possible for one of the major broadcast networks to succeed on Saturday in today's day and age?

I think it can, look at what ABC did on Wednesdays this season. With quality shows and heavy (and good) advertising, they were able to launch a night of four new sitcoms with only one casualty in an era where it's hard for sitcoms to get off the ground. I think with the right promotion and the right shows, there could be successes on Saturday night.

What are your thoughts?

TV still airs on Saturday nights? ;)

I think the networks really could if they wanted to. Of course, I'd like to see them bring back quality TV shows all 7 nights a week.

I have to admit I am more about hanging out on a Saturday night as opposed to sitting in front of the televisions et.

I am as well but some shows that were among the most popular on TV used to air on Saturday nights - was the culture different then or could a truly popular series succeed nowadays?

Saturday Night TV reminds me of the song - "Its too late" to turn back now

Saturdays used to be good tv nights. I just think tv execs just said the hell with it and gave up promoting Saturdays. The only good thing is that some of them repeat some shows from the week.

The last shows I watched on Saturday were Early Edition and Walker Texas Ranger. Walker was a top 20 show and that wasn't long before they abandoned the night. I mostly watch shows I have on the DVR on Saturdays anymore.

For me, Saturday night programming has sucked as with every other night of the week since the late 80's.

There is no way to salvage Saturdays, times are different now and way more competition from cable programming. I also miss the old days when there were great progamming on Saturdays.

I no longer watch ANY TV, Broadcast or Cable. During the last 4 1/2 Years I have watched only what is on DVD. For all intents and purposes, I have created MY OWN NETWORK, and the days of "Nothing good on TV" are OVER! :D
