In honor of Black History Month, the NBC Universal cafeteria served...

Yes, look how far we've come!

The image was posted on Twitter by Jimmy Fallon's house band drummer Questlove along with the comment, "Hmm, HR?"

A person posting as an NBC publicist replied, "The sign in the NBCU cafeteria has been removed. We apologize for anyone who was offended by it."

What is about those pictures that offends you? Fred spoke of Ripple on the show and all I did was change what NBC stood for. How this offends you yet you say nothing about the initial post is beyond me.

You came off like you found those NBC comments funny and were agreeing with them.

I never said I agreed with it and the photo was only intended to show what Fred's reaction might be. There was absolutely no intent to offend you or anyone else.

Don't forget the kool-aid!!! You know when I was still working at the store I had a co-worker who, on MLK's birthday, got a big bucket of KFC with MLK's face covering up the Colonel's, watermelon and kool-aid. It's not just the Zuckhead's at NBC who are friggin' ignorant. BTW, did I mention that the store employee is a member of the Board of Ed. in my town???

OK, even if the people who came up with this menu were all white, you'd think that at least ONE person would speak up and say that this really isn't a very good idea.

Or maybe since NBC already knows they're in the dumper, and they think, oh well, what do we have to lose??

Seems like it's better to not serve anything to anybody.

Didn't know some foods can be considered racist.

I'll probably get a lot of flack for this, but I honestly don't see what the big deal is. That type of food is considered "soul food." Why is serving ethnic food considered racist? Would people react the same way if the cafeteria served Mexican food in honor of Cinco de Mayo?

For the record, I'm not claiming that all African Americans eat "soul food." It is, however, a type of food that's typically associated with that culture even if that's stereotypical.

And for the person that took offense to what Zoneboy posted, no need to be man, he was being sarcastic. I'm not that mad about the menu. I do have a sense of humor. However, someone should have consulted some of "us" about that menu.

Assuming every black person eats collard greens and "soul food" is like assuming:

All northern whites listen to nothing but pop/rock
Southern whites listen to country
Hispanics listen to latino

Stevie Ray Vaughan grew up in Austin, Texas and said that country music never really did anything for him.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to listen to Kid Rock and watch American Idol.

LOL - actually, it's got me intrigued!

As a kid, we'd go up north and catch catfish. My bff's dad was black and from Memphis and his wife was a white Newfie (now THERE'S a mix I won't soon forget! ;) ). Anyway, we'd have fresh catfish and black eyed peas for dinner. I don't think she'd do collard greens, but I've always wanted to try them.

when I first saw this news item I was a bit shocked myself, but after thinking about it and now knowing the gal who came up with the menu is African-American herself, then hey, maybe life is too short and we get too caught up in political correctness at times. Afterall, isn't Black History Month made to educate us ALL about black culture in the Americas? Wouldn't part of that be to sample some regional delicacies? My old cafeteria at work used to have "ethnic" days. The ladies who ran the place were mostly Polish and that's where I grew to love cabbage rolls and perogies (damn them - put on 10 lbs with that stuff)!
