RYE, NY-- Following a WKRP In Cincinnati rerun Monday, 6-year-old Megan Connor was devastated to learn that the mewling orange kitten in the MTM Productions logo has almost certainly been dead for years. "All I said was that that kitten was around back when I was a kid, so it probably died 15 or 20 years ago," said father Bruce Connor, 39. "Now she won't come out of her room." Megan's parents plan to forbid Megan from watching Family Ties reruns for fear of having to explain the whereabouts of Ubu.

Wow. Y'know Gary David Goldberg admitted in a 1984 interview that UBU's famous picture was taken in 1972, and that he had died long ago. Mind you, I AM paraphrasing here, but you get the idea.

They did not even have UBU Productions in 1972. UBU started when FT started.

I did not ask about UBU. I asked about the MTM Kitten.

Does anyone really care when the MTM kitten died?!

Yes!
That kitten ruled, and should be immortalized in statue! If Ralph Kramden gets a statue, so too should the MTM kitten?
Who else brightened our day with just one phrase, week in and week out from 1970 to at least 1990 (and ever since in reruns), by looking cute and saying "Meow"?
Surely not Bob Denver!
Poor little kitty....

Anyone remember when he died on the last ep of St. Elsewhere?

Yes. It was hooked up to a heart monitor throughout the end credits, then at the end the kitty (named Mimsie, BTW) died.
Now this is just a theory, but that scene has something to do with what happened to MTM Productions. After Grant Tinker left to head NBC, the studio produced no more successful shows after Newhart, St. E, and Remington Steele.
In 1988, Mary Tyler Moore sold her company to the British broadcaster TVS. In the 1990s, MTM Productions was bought out by Pat Robertson's International Family Entertainment, the same company that owned the Family Channel.
In 1997, News Corporation, parent company of 20th Century Fox studios, bought IFE and with it the entire MTM Productions library and the Family Channel (the latter they are selling). News Corp. put the struggling MTM to sleep, and new prints of reruns of the shows (struck in 1999 or later) no longer have the classic logo. It still appears on the Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart shows on TVLand and Newhart and WKRP on TNN as these were the same tapes used on N@N, made before Fox dismantled the company. Reruns of White Shadow on ESPN Classic and St. Elsewhere on Bravo have the 20th Century Fox logo instead. :-( Very sad. Hopefully if/when the shows come out on DVD the classic logo will be intact.

Unless of course it's over four years old, then it's all fact.
What do you mean over 4 years old? I'm confused.
