SERIOUSLY. i feel like i'm the only one my age who is so annoyed by texting. i used to text pretty often....but i'm just so sick of it now, for several reasons. first of all, the conversations usually end up going like this:
Person: Hey.
Me: Hey.
Person: What's up?
Me: Not much, you?
Person: Same.
....how am i supposed to respond to that? why would you bother texting me if you have nothing to say? i don't need to be going through meaningless conversation with you while i'm in the middle of eating dinner at my aunt's house or watching a movie with my friends.
not to mention, i don't get the people who sit there texting other people all the time when they're with you...am i not interesting enough for you? o_o i don't mind texting if you actually have to tell someone something...but i hate when people use it for meaningless conversation.
so, how do you all feel about texting?

If it were used properly it would be great.

You are not the only one who is annoyed by texting. Everywhere I look, in school, in stores, in eating places, in the bar people are texting one another, and 9 out of 10 times they are texting somebody in the same room. I dont get it and what ever happend to person to person communication???
However if you are into texting thats your thing. One thing though I find it extremly rude to text while you are in the classroom.

^haha texting someone in the same room. yeah i dont do that really...so weird.
and yeah a ton of kids text in class in my school. i'm horrible at being secretive so i never did it cause i'd probably fail miserably. i have to put my phone in my locker anyway cause it's touch screen and always pocket dials people, and if it called someone in the middle of class...that would not be good.

Cell phones should not be allowed in school classrooms. You're there to study and to learn. At least in theory. I think schools have the right (or should have the right) to make kids turn them off or keep them out of the classroom.
And anyone who texts while driving -- I can't even begin to explain how I feel about such idiocy.

yeah they aren't allowed in high school, i think college generally doesn't care though.
i dont even GET how people text while they drive LOL. i get distracted too easily when i drive to begin with, cant imagine how id be while texting...

I text all the time. I'm like, afraid of talking on the phone, so texting has pretty much saved my life.
I love it.

I don't text that much, and if I did I certainly wouldn't be texting meaningless conversations!!
Texting is good if you have somebody quick to say, which is alot of my conversations, instead of actually calling somebody just to ask a simple question.
Another good thing is something my sister & I do, is when we go to a concert, we'll text each other, even though we're right next to each other, because we usually can't hear each other when one of us is trying to say something!!
Yeah, but I don't get those people who are constantly texting. It is out of control.

Yeah they do. It mostly depends on the teacher, but it's still rude regardless. It's so annoying to hear the buttons like wtf is so important that you have to sit there texting all the time? And literally like, if kids aren't texting in the class, they are the second the teacher says "k you can leave" It's so annoying. Maybe I'm just a bitter old woman because no one texts me and I have no friends, and plus also this guy I used to like who flirted with me and led me on would always text so there's that too, but really even when people do text me I find myself annoyed. I just wanna like hurl a banana at someone whenever I see them texting non-stop. WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT GAH SG<TSRPgfrdgdf
Pet peeve. end rant.

ugh and don't even get me started on texting while driving. I've done research on it for class before...it's literally the equivalent, if not worse, than drunk driving.

Google "Chatsworth train crash" and read the Wikipedia article. 25 people died in the collision all because one of the engineers was texting! :(

Ashlee if you are old, then I am prehistoric :D
I find it hard to believe you have no friends. You seem like an outgoing and friendly person to me.

Now, that pisses me off. Especially when all they're doing is checking what Kim Kardashian last had to say on Twitter.

Haha I was just joking. Obviously I'm not old.
Thanks though. I'm actually wicked shy...I guess I'm friendly, but very shy and in my own world a lot of the time lol. Definitely not outgoing.

I hate texting. I have problems with arthritis in the hands, not to mention I've had issues with carpal tunnel syndrome. So the few times I've texted messages have been extremely painful. I'd rather leave a voice mail message or just send an email.

I wouldn't mind it so much if people weren't so rude about it. Kind of off topic, but I had a friend who would come over to my house for three hours and spend a whole one of them on myspace. Now that would tick me off. Jerry Seinfeld feels the same way we do. He says when a person who texts starts talking to us, we should get out a magazine, hold it up over their face and start reading!!!
