:rip: How sad! I know he was in declining health the past few years, and he was about 90, but it still comes as a shock. Hopefully AMC will do a retrospective for James/Palmer like they did for Ruth Warrick (Phoebe) and Eileen Herlie (Myrtle). He debuted on AMC in 1979, the same year I was born!

Thorsten Kaye had to FIGHT to get the show to even to do a tribute for Eileen, knowing Frons we might not get one at all for James, but I can see Jill and others fighting for one if they don't.

Let's hope Susan Lucci, David Canary, etc. really fight to get James a tribute show. After all, Adam and Palmer had that great rivalry for years, and he had that wacky relationship with Opal, etc. Didn't he have a story where he lost his fortune and had to work at some crappy diner dressed in a chicken suit??

He did indeed! I loved his appearances on Family Feud's Soap Opera Saints vs. Sinners week back in 1982. Those are on YouTube, so check them out if you can.

Not only are the soaps themselves dying off, but so are the classic actors who so entertained us on the soaps. It's so sad, in both cases. :(

He was nominated for Best Actor in a Daytime Drama seven times, and unfortunately walked away empty-handed seven times. He also had four Soap Opera Digest Award nominations and lost every time there, too. Such a shame - too bad he couldn't have gotten a Lifetime Achievement Emmy like these other daytime greats did in 2004:
Rachel Ames (Audrey Hardy, General Hospital), John Clarke (Mickey Horton, Days of our Lives), Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor, The Young and the Restless), Eileen Fulton (Lisa Grimaldi, As the World Turns) Don Hastings (Bob Hughes, As the World Turns), Anna Lee (Lila Quartermaine, General Hospital), Frances Reid (Alice Horton, Days of our Lives), Helen Wagner (Nancy Hughes, As the World Turns) and his fellow AMCers Ray MacDonnell (Dr. Joe Martin) and Ruth Warrick (Phoebe Tyler Wallingford).

The recent passing of James Mitchell -- who played Palmer Cortlandt on All My Children for over 30 years -- has saddened us all. The question on everyone's minds has been: Will All My Children acknowledge this? The answer is: Yes. Not only will the show recognize the passing of Palmer Cortlandt, but they plan to give him a tribute that is fitting to James's long tenure on the show. Moral of the story: Palmer (and James) will be honored [expect classic clips!].
No airdate has been set, but expect to see it later this spring -- allowing for the arrival of new headwriters Donna Swajeski and David Kreizman to work with the rest of the team on a proper memorial.

I would hope that they have enough sense to bring back Gillian Spencer as Daisy for the tribute episode. I'm sure Taylor Miller (Nina) will be back for the memorial and even though it's a long shot, it would be a nice surprise to see Peter Bergman return as Cliff for the memorial.

Since Taylor Miller was just on AMC for the 40th anniversary, I'm sure she'll be back for Palmer's memorial. I would LOVE to see Gillian Spencer, especially since she and James Mitchell were very good friends in real life.

Hopefully they ask Taylor back. The show had better not drop the ball on this memorial.
