Awesome news about Bewitched - and they picked some terrific episodes for the marathons. :D But TV Land...why not start the marathon off with the pilot episode?

Pavan

The pilot is already airing on March 1 in the regular schedule. They are going in order starting March 1.

Will TVLand air the first two seasons of Bewitched or is it the same package WGN has?

AWESOME schedule!!!!! IMO one of the best ones in a while.

BTW - has anyone else noticed that they no longer say "TV Land Prime" on air? All of the HSR promos just say "TV Land." I wonder if they're phasing the PRIME name out?

I hope they keep Bewitched on WGN too. I'm glad it's on TVLAND too cuz I always have to miss the 2nd ep they show on WGN cuz it's on opposite Patty Duke on World Harvest. Why the schedule good stuff opposite each other, and other hrs there's nothing on, I dunno...

I know it's a little off topic as this is a March thread, but does anyone know if when "Everybody Loves Raymond" joins the schedule in April, do TBS and local affiliates lose their rights? I would hate if they did, since they air it in HD.

Brent88
01-23-2010, 11:15 PM
According to a promo last night Raymond is coming in MARCH, not April.

Pavan
01-23-2010, 11:21 PM
TBS and locals will not lose rights. Raymond will be on TV Land in primetime/nights only. And local affiliates are not cable, so they have nothing to do with this. TV Land does not have exclusive rights.

Interesting about the promo. Looks like TV Land March will change a bit then. I bet Raymond takes that 10pm hour from Roseanne and Roseanne only airs 2-4am. Or Raymond will start week of March 29, since TV Land has not released that week yet.

I would guess a show like "Everybody Loves Raymond" would be aired for at least 2 hours a week night. It wouldn't seem like TV Land would be getting their money's worth if they just aired it Mon/Tue/Thu at 10pm.

On that note, I'm surprised Home Improvement is only being aired 1 hour a day. Why not replace one of the Roseanne hours with it? And it seems like they would have at least moved TAGS 5pm hour to 4pm and cut one episode of Bonanza.

I'm still wondering how Home Improvement's doing. I've been enjoying it on TV Land lately. For Raymond, my guess is it replaces Roseane in early-mid March. Probably will get a launch marathon, then go to the 10pm hour Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. For Wednesday HI could air at 8pm, with Raymond at 9pm.

clj2
01-25-2010, 03:57 PM
It wouldn't make sense with Andy Griffith losing afternoons already, but there is a possibility I guess that HI could take 8-9pm and Raymond 9-11pm, with BL leading out of that as scheduled.

Maybe move Sanford and Son to 6-7pm and Andy Griffith 7-8pm? It certainly doesn't fit with HI, Raymond, etc.

I think she was saying HI would go to 8pm on Wednesdays only with the originals at 10pm, otherwise the schedule will probably still be the same with Raymond taking over for Roseanne

Raymond starts March 18 at 9pm:

“EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND”…AND TV LAND IS NO EXCEPTION!

Series Joins The Network On Thursday, March 18

New York, NY, January 25, 2010 -- TV Land welcomes the hilarious Barone family to the network when the Emmy Award-winning sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” premieres on Thursday, March 18 with a four-day primetime event. The series then joins the schedule for a primetime block each weeknight starting at 9PM ET/PT. Viewers will fall in love all over again with the antics of Ray Barone’s entire family, from his over-bearing mother Marie and his wise-cracking father, Frank, to his wife Debra’s no-nonsense impatience with him and the incessant sibling rivalry between Ray and younger brother Robert.

“We're excited to begin airing ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ so that we can infuse our schedule with a fan favorite, giving us a great lead-in audience for our newest original series “First Love, Second Chance,” states Jaclyn Cohen, senior vice president of programming and acquisitions for TV Land. “Our acquisitions of beloved television staples are critical to TV Land’s success as they transition viewers into our new original content. We are sure that our viewers will love this “Raymond and “First Love” pairing as both shows have the common thread of showing relationships in all their glory -- the good AND the bad.”

The winner of 15 Emmy® Awards, “Everybody Loves Raymond” ran in primetime on CBS for eight seasons. The premise was born out of Ray Romano’s own life experiences of raising his children along with his wife, all while his parents and brother lived close by. In “Everybody Loves Raymond,” Romano plays Ray Barone, father of three and a sports writer for a local newspaper. Patricia Heaton plays his wife, Debra, who endures her husband’s overbearing parents played brilliantly by Doris Roberts and the late Peter Boyle. As in real life, Ray’s brother Robert, played by Brad Garrett, is a policeman who lives with his parents. Guest stars for the series run included hilarious appearances by Kevin James, Fred Willard, Georgia Engel and Chris Elliott.

So Raymond gets 9PM - makes me wonder what will happen with HI. Will it go to 10pm (where it would be pre-empted a lot) or 8pm, and, as I said earlier, push TAGS back? Any idea Pav when an updated March schedule could be released?

Pavan
01-25-2010, 09:28 PM
Hope to have it tomorrow. I bet Home Improvement will be at 8 and then Raymond from 9-11. And it looks like the Bewitched marathon weekend of March 21-22, will be cut a bit due to the Raymond four-night primetime event.

clj2
01-25-2010, 09:49 PM
Makes sense...thanks. I think evenings (5-8) will definitely be altered, with Andy Griffith probably airing from 7pm-8pm, maybe replacing All in the Family and leaving the rest intact?

PRIME seems to officially be gone. I turned Home Improvement on and the regular TV Land logo is on the screen. Like that wasn't coming, though...

DSfan
01-25-2010, 10:28 PM
Why not put Andy Griffith from 4-5PM? (Or, they could just push everything back an hour replacing one of those Bonanza episodes).

Home Improvement 8-9
Everybody Loves Raymond 9-10
Roseanne 10-11
Boston Legal 11-12

I think Raymond will be a block from 9pm - 11pm. No sense in airing a different show for the 10pm hour with that slot only open 3 nights a week.

I'd like to see this....
9am/9:30am- Leave it to Beaver
10am/10:30am- The Beverly Hillbillies
11am/11:30am- Hogan's Heroes
12pm/12:30pm- The Andy Griffith Show (or at 3pm and move western block start time to noon)
1pm- Gunsmoke
2pm/3pm- Bonanza
4pm/4:30pm- Bewitched
5pm/5:30pm- All in the Family
6pm/6:30pm- Sanford and Son
7pm/7:30pm- The Andy Griffith Show
8pm/8:30pm- Home Improvement
9pm - 11pm- Everybody Loves Raymond
11pm- Boston Legal
12am - 2am- Roseanne
2am/2:30am- Home Improvement
3am/3:30am- The Cosby Show
4am/4:30am- Three's Company
5am/5:30am- M*A*S*H

Of course I'd like to see Married...with Children in there too, but that would probably require removing some shows or isolating them to weekends.

I hope they don't show any old shows like Andy or Bewitched from 4-5 pm. The reason is Bewitched is already on WGN at that time and re-runs of Patty Duke are on at 4:30 pm meaning I have to miss the 2nd Bewitched ep. So that wouldn't be a good time. I hate how they put good stuff on opposite each other like Patty Duke opposite Bewitched and then other hrs nothing oldie is on. At Least I like HI and Raymond but I still they they are more for Nick At Nite and Tvland should be airing the really old stuff...

Didn't expect to see TAGS gone from weekdays...seems kind of dumb, why not just shift it back to 7pm? I'm sure that will change.

Surprised also to see M*A*S*H gone from Sunday nights and just on at 5am weekdays. I know Roseanne lost some timeslots on Saturdays, but it still seems they'd air M*A*S*H for an hour or 2 coming out of Andy.

SPELLBINDING SERIES “BEWITCHED” JOINS

TV LAND ON MARCH 1st, 2010

Network To Air “Bewitched” Marathon

On March 20th and 21st

New York, NY, February 18, 2010 -- Wiggle your nose and cast a spell along with America’s favorite witch, Samantha Stevens, when TV Land celebrates the launch of the beloved classic “Bewitched” with a marathon of beloved episodes on Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st from 11am-7pm ET/PT. Samantha and her mortal husband, Darrin Stevens bring the supernatural to Morning Glory Circle when the series airs in its regularly-scheduled timeslot on the network: weekdays from 5pm-6pm ET/PT beginning March 1st. Viewers will enjoy the funny, enchanting and magically mischievous situations that Darrin finds himself in, being married to a sorceress and inheriting a feisty mother-in-law as well.

“’Bewitched’ is a timeless favorite that all generations can enjoy together,” states Jaclyn Cohen, senior vice president of programming and acquisitions for TV Land. “Viewers still love to watch as mortal and immortal worlds intermingle in this quirky and endearing show. TV Land is proud to welcome this lovable cast of characters to the network.”

Emmy award-winning “Bewitched” aired on ABC from 1964-1972. The series follows Samantha Stevens (Elizabeth Montgomery), a stay-at-home wife with a secret. After marrying her husband, ad-exec Darrin Stevens (Dick York, then played by Dick Sargent), she reveals to him that she is a witch. Darrin makes her promise never to use her magical powers, but Samantha cannot resist making domestic life just a little easier by a wiggle of her nose to cast a spell, usually backfiring into more trouble than help. Samantha’s mother, Endora (Agnes Moorehead), does not accept the marriage between her daughter and a mortal husband and constantly visits to unnerve Darrin and complicate their “normal” suburban lifestyle by disobeying his wishes. Gladys Kravitz (Sandra Gould), the nosy next door neighbor suspects unusual antics occurring in the Stevens household and makes life interesting by relentlessly attempting to uncover Samantha’s secret. All of these ingredients make for a spellbinding half-hour of entertainment!

I don't know who all is a fan of TV Land on Facebook, but I found this interesting.

There was a post about Bewitched returning to the channel, by TV Land. There were comments (mostly positive), and some users were mentioning other shows that should come. One mentioned The Munsters, and TV Land commented back and said "we'll talk about The Munsters later" or something like that. Found it odd that of all shows, they mention that one. Could it be the second classic coming? Maybe I'm nit-picking, but found that interesting. It would make sense if that was indeed the show, but it would be a disappointment.

The credits for Bewitched were interesting yesterday - the first episode had the ticker, then the second had it squashed down to the bottom with the ending "tags" or whatever playing in full screen.

Since TheLink is gone from the TV Land, maybe now they'll have a more informative contact. For crying out loud the people on the Facebook page for TV Land mentioned BW coming before he did. BTW, he was on another board and is finally starting to say that the channel needs to get things together and have a clearer programming strategy...as well as that some of the things they are/were wanting to accomplish aren't possible. You wouldn't say?

Must have been an epic failure. If I were TV Land, I'd be getting a little nervous. BL was expensive to acquire. Their past shows that haven't worked well (Roseanne, Scrubs, 3rd Rock, JSM, the countless classics over the years) have either been cheap or had success on other Viacom networks....this was acquired especially for TV Land. Given the small amount of time it's aired, it must have been a disaster. They better hope Raymond works....if not, there are issues. The next most recent show they've tried was Scrubs, and we remember how that worked.

At least Bewitched is holding out. That's the show I was wondering about.

BTW, Sanford and Son ended at 1PM with Gunsmoke starting right after today. Not off the clock.

Pavan
03-10-2010, 05:41 PM
Don't think Boston Legal was that expensive (yes WGN/locals have only weekend rights). Scrubs wasn't either since it was Comedy Central's acquisition really. Home Edition was the only of the new series intended for only TV Land (but now also airs on CMT and does well there). 3rd Rock and Just Shoot Me were cheap from Program Exchange. Even Raymond probably didn't cost them too much, since they will be sharing it with TBS.

Wednesdays are on the clock because of the originals. Every other day is off the clock.

I was more comparing Scrubs to BL in the sense that they are both the most recent syndicated shows TV Land has tried, and they both have not worked. Shows that started in the 80s and ran in to the early-mid 90s seem to do OK (like Roseanne, Cosby, Home Improvement which didn't do great, except for Married With Children), but 90s/00s shows just don't work (Scrubs, 3rd Rock, Just Shoot Me, now Boston Legal).

Now I just don't know about Raymond anymore. If it doesn't work, they need to give up the "attracting people in their 40s" concept.

TAGS airs Monday-Wednesday this week from 8-10PM.

This show is getting really frustrating to watch on TV Land. They skip all over the place with the episodes (they have for ages), and they've gotten HORRIBLE about repeating the episodes lately. The episodes Sunday were all repeats from Saturday (Bewitched is never done this way). Now they've gone to the extreme of where when it airs from 8-10PM, the 9-10PM episodes are repeated 8-9PM the night after. When it airs from 8-9PM, the 8:30 episode always repeats at 8PM the night after.

Am I the only one a little irritated at this? I know they can encore the episodes and all...but this is a little extreme.

TV LAND VIEWERS LOVE “EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND!”

Series Launch Marathon Posts Increases of +56% Over Recent Levels

New York, NY, March 24, 2010 -- TV Land viewers fell in love all over again with the hilarious Barone family during the Emmy Award-winning sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond” launch marathon on Thursday, March 18th through Sunday, March 21st from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET/PT. The primetime launch marathon event averaged nearly 1 million total viewers and posted double digit ratings and delivery increases over recent and year ago primetime levels.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the marathon posted an increase of 56% over recent levels among total viewers and was up 22% over a year ago attracting 942,000 total viewers. The event scored a 0.4 rating (430,000 viewers) among the network’s target A25-54 audience, up 37% in rating and 35% in viewers 25-54 over recent levels and up 41% in rating and 39% in viewers 25-54 versus a year ago.

Among TV Land’s core A40-54 audience, the launch event posted a 0.5 rating and 276,000 viewers 40-54, scoring double digit increases of 26% in both rating and viewers 40-54 over recent levels. Compared to a year ago, it scored a 20% increase in rating and was up 18% in viewers 40-54.

The event was a success with TV Land’s female audience posting a 0.5 rating and 278,000 viewers among W25-54, up 44% in rating and 42% in W25-54 viewers over recent levels. Versus a year ago, it was up 58% in rating and 57% in W25-54 viewers.

What? TV Land has actually found something successful in primetime? Very glad to see this. I've been watching Raymond on TV Land since it launched. However, I wish they'd pull those stupid encores of First Love, Second Chance and stop the constant promos of it. It's getting annoying. With Raymond doing well I would try Roseanne from 11-12am and maybe it would give her a boost. Certainly better than running FLSC.

Agreed. Although FL,SC isn't the worst of shows (I watched last week's episode, and was thorougly entertained for a cheap reality show), I see no need to run an immediate repeat at 11pm. Like you said, they could try Roseanne at 11pm again. A schedule of HI at 8pm, Raymond 9-11pm, and Roseanne at 11pm seems like it would be solid.
