Anthony "T-Bone" Bellamy Of Redbone Dies At 69
Redbone's Anthony "T-Bone" Bellamy has died. Bellamy, a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist, passed away in Las Vegas on Christmas Day 2009, as confirmed in a statement from the Native American Music Awards organization. The musician, whose birth name was Anthony Avila, was 69-years-old. Formed in the late 1960s, Redbone featured Bellamy, along with brothers Patrick and Lolly Vasquez. According to Patrick Vasquez, it was guitar legend Jimi Hendrix who encouraged the musicians to form an all-Native American rock group. The band's greatest success came in 1974 when its single "Come and Get Your Love" made the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Native American Music Awards inducted Bellamy with Redbone into its Hall of Fame in 2008. Also in a statement, N.A.M.A. said of the late rocker, quote, "He was a beloved and endearing friend of the 'Nammys' since its inception, and will be greatly missed."
