ABC's daytime drama "One Life to Live" had a lousy Christmas week, earning only a 0.9 rating among women 18-49, according to Nielsen numbers listed at TVbythenumbers.com.

"One Life's" total viewer count of 2,254,000 was a new low, as was its 1.7 rating in households.

It's sad to see the Soap Opera genre take yet another hit.

I fear it's only going to get worse from here on out. :(

I agree and it's a real shame. So many actors got their start and learned their craft on Soaps. Where are young actors going to gain experience when the Soaps are gone?

Hopefully the ratings for OLTL will go up a bit in 2010. At least the people at ABC arent coward like the ones over at CBS who get scared and yank a soap off the air.

That is sad to hear, but IMO the show have to take some of the blame. They have been letting go of the people that matter most and hiring these teenagers who can barely act. What about the vetrans? Don't they count for anything? Apparently not.

What do you mean? The only person they've really let go recently was Jared, and as much as I loved him, he wasn't far from being a veteran.

Maybe you're watching a different OLTL, but the one I see is definitely one which values its veterans and older cast members.

The five longest-tenured cast members are Erika Slezak (Viki), Robert S. Woods (Bo), Robin Strasser (Dorian), Hillary B. Smith (Nora), and Kassie DePaiva (Blair), and every single one of them except for Slezak appeared in more than half of 2009's episodes, and Slezak was pretty close to the 50% mark herself.

OLTL has a lotta problems, but pushing its vets to the side is definitely not one of them. And as for hiring teenagers, most of the teens they have have been on the show for 2-3 years now, or more. The only new one they've hired in the last year was Kelley Missal as Danielle, and before that, it was Shenell Edmonds as Destiny, but she's not on contract. Only three teens appeared in more than 100 episodes last year.

Yeah I agree, OLTL is one of the few soaps to use their vets more than just once every two weeks.

I think that's awesome. More shows would do well to follow that example. Of course, that would make too much sense.
