Actress Brittany Murphy passed away on Sunday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 32.

Absolutely devastating. Especially because this comes as no surprise! We, and those who knew Brittany personally, saw this coming. That does not make this any less horrible.

Murphy reportedly went into full cardiac arrest and her husband, Simon Monjack, immediately called paramedics to save his wife.

Murphy was announced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after paramedics and doctors could not revive the 8 Mile actress.

So shocking...way too young :( I hear her husband is a shady character, too, so who knows what's going on there. RIP, Brittany. I grew up with your movies. :(

How sad. I liked her, and thought she had talent. Her looks were unique. She was a beautiful blonde, but didn't have the kind of looks where you couldn't tell her apart from other beautiful blondes. May God give her loved ones the strength to cope with such a devastating tragedy. It's never a good time to lose someone you love, but Christmas week adds another layer of sadness to an already heartbreaking loss.

I read that there were rumors of an eating disorder, and I have to say my first impression from seeing a recent picture of her is that it's true. She looked very thin.

The reports coming out are that Brittany passed away from cardiac arrest at age 32. That was the EXACT same age and cause of death of singer Karen Carpenter. Of course, Karen was a notorious anorexic (though she'd regained weight and went back to normal eating habits before her cardiac arrest), so if that's what happened to Brittany, it makes a lot of sense. :(

Wow, this is probably the biggest shock of them all. I really liked her in Clueless as well as the Ashton Kucher movie and the one she did with Dakota Fanning. I can't think right now, but of those, Cluess is definitely the best. I'm not really upset about it, although it's a terrible tragedy, but I got some pretty upsetting news earlier today from a good friend of mine, so reading this upset me as well. I'll elaborate on the other in the complaint thread.

I thought so - thanks for clarifying, Sonny. Dabney Coleman seemed to be the king of short-lived TV shows until The Guardian came along in 2000.

Murphy Sick and Vomiting Just Before She Died

Posted Dec 21st 2009 12:02AM by TMZ Staff

Brittany MurphyBrittany Murphy was very ill in the hours before she went into cardiac arrest and died, sources tell TMZ.

We're told Murphy was taking prescription meds for flu-like symptoms she had been experiencing for several days. We're told Murphy began vomiting early Sunday morning and told family members she was feeling very ill.

Sources say various prescriptions were found in the home -- written for Brittany Murphy, husband Simon Monjack, and Brittany's mom. One source says, "There were a lot ... a lot of prescriptions in the house."

Law enforcement sources tell us Murphy collapsed in the bathroom and somehow ended up in the shower ... there was, we're told, a significant amount of vomit in the immediate area.

We're also told authorities did not find illegal drugs in the house, but Murphy was definitely taking various prescription meds.

Sources say her condition and the meds could have triggered a heart attack, but it's too early to know. An autopsy will be performed Monday or Tuesday. We reported earlier Monjack did not want an autopsy but ultimately it's the Coroner's call.

Brittany MurphyAs we first reported, Brittany Murphy's mother told paramedics her daughter suffered from diabetes. We're told it was type 2 diabetes and people involved in the case doubt her condition caused her death.

hmmmmm - yah well, HE doesn't have that choice. Anytime there's an unexplained death like this, legally there has to be an autopsy.

From what I've observed, and if she always had an heart issue, an eating disorder would be fatal for sure. I'm afraid that's what's going to come out - additional stress on the heart (and I'm not even including the possiblity of drug use) would be fatal.

So particularly sad on Christmas week. What a shame and loss of a beautiful, talented young woman. :(

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it Karen putting on so much weight in a short period of time, was too damaging to her fragile body? I heard that she put on ten pounds within a week and that was too much on her heart.

Yeah, she went into a hospital in New York, and she put on weight through an IV. She went from 80 pounds to 110 pounds in only a few weeks and all those calories put even more of a strain on her fragile organs. Had she gone through more conventional treatment (like her friend Cherry Boone O'Neill did), she still may be with us today. :(

I'm glad nothing serious happened to Tracy Gold. She had an eating disorder as well. Thank God she is still alive and healthy now. I don't know if her situation was as severe as Karen's but she was pretty thin for a while there.

I wouldn't be surprised if Brittany DID have anorexia or bulimia - the most recent pictures of hers...she looked almost skeletal. Here are a couple of the articles I found about Karen's passing...and there seem to be a few parallels between her life/career and Brittany's.

Back then, anorexia was still so "new" that they didn't realize a rapid weight gain could be fatal. They've now since gone to this technique (of hospitalization and very carefully introducing calories thru IV). They should be medically controlled during this time. Unfortunately, Karen wasn't. She was just eating foods as much as she could. They learned from her death and now treat the disease differently.

I still remember Karen's death like it was yesterday (since I was in the middle of the same ED at the time and it scared the hell out of me).

Thanks for sharing those. I've been fascinated with the Carpenters lately and the whole thing with Karen is just devestating to me. She seemed like such a sweet heart that didn't deserve to die that way. :(

I guess we'll see about Brittany once the autopsy reports are completed. It's awful when it's something that could've been prevented somehow. I had no idea she was having problems, but I guess those close to her aren't very shocked that this happened. :(

Well I sure am glad for your sake that it did scare the hell out of you and that you're alright today! :)

As for Brittany, goodness...what can I say??? My heart goes out to her loved ones and especially to her mom, who I hear she was very, very close to, especially now during the holiday season. :( I speak from experience when I say that losing a loved one during the holidays is a horrific thing to go through. Of course it's awful any time, but I think it happening at this time of year only makes it worse. :( It's so sad! She was so young!

Her death does seem to parallel Karen Carpenter's death, but doesn't it also kind of parallel Michael Jackson's? He died of a sudden cardiac arrest too that was drug-related (they ought to KILL his doctor!!!) And I know they're saying that Brittany Murphy was on some kind of prescription drugs for the flu...that could have had something to do with it as well, I would think. I'm wondering if maybe she could have been allergic to the meds her doctor gave her and nobody knew it or something. A medication allergy can develop at any time. I used to take penicillin all the time when I was a kid and then one day, I had a terrible allergic reaction to it, just clear out of the blue.

You're welcome - I've been a Carpenters fan since I was 12, and always have felt a connection with Karen because I too have struggled with anorexia. I just have a feeling that Brittany had some of the same struggles. I can't prove it, of course, but I just have an inkling...

I think the appropriate tribute song for Brittany Murphy would be the song "Last Christmas" by the British duo Wham!

Coincidentally, I ain't gonna cry over her death, just a simple posting of :rip: will save me from tears. (taken fro the song's lyrics)

Her passing has already been compared to that of Michael Jackson's, Anna Nicole Smith's and Heath Ledger's - multiple drug intoxication. That would rebutt the original statement, which said no drugs were in her system. So who really knows?
