My sister and I both found this story to be awfully strange....
The story starts when a young woman named Wanda heads to a cabin with her boyfriend and I believe her mother and father.
One morning her mother wakes up and can't get into Wanda's bedroom because the door was locked. Her father broke into the bedroom, which was empty. The bedroom window was broken, and there was blood on the glass.
They then found there canoe abandoned in the small pond, with blood in that aswell.
They searched the pond, and had no luck. I'm not exactly sure what happened to the boyfriend.
It was reported that Wanda had been seen several times walking around. It was also reported that a woman saw her walking down the highway in mens clothes that were way to big, overalls and a flannel, I believe.
Someone also saw her at a local convenience store, but she wouldn't look out the window and was acting very odd.
Does anyone remember this one???????? My sister and I are soooooooo curious as to what happened...

Oh my gosh!! That episode was one of the first ones I ever saw. I have never seen the repeat but I remember all the deails about the glass, canoe, etc. I wish someone on this board could recall details for us....

I remember a very similar story from an early UM broadcast. A young girl went out to dinner with some friends and stopped by to visit her parents (or possibly grandparents) on her way home. She decided she was too tired to drive back home so she spent the night at their house. The next morning she was nowhere to be found and they discovered the broken window and the blood in the canoe. It also seems like they were concerned about her health (possibly she was on some type of medication or had been on a very strict diet prior to her disappearance). This segment aired years ago and I've never seen it repeated.

Thats the same segment..has to be, esp. with the canoe and broken glass details. Okay, so now I know I am not crazy and other people remember all these old segments. I thought I was nuts b/c I have never seen them again.

I believe this story was actually the first one that i watched in UM. I had forgotten all details but the girl been sick is something I can remember. I only watched this story once (in '91) so i cant remember her name but i do recall she was sighted later in LA(?) driving a car and that her hair was blonde.

I'm relatively new to this site and have spent the
last couple of days browsing old threads. UM has been my all time favorite show for the last 16 years and I'm so happy that I have all of you to share the laughter, tears and frustration with. Ok, so corniness aside, I came across this thread from a year ago and nearly fell off my chair. I remember this as one of the 1st segments I ever saw on UM (I was 11 at the time and it freaked the hell out of me). I remember it first aired in May of '87 as hosted by Karl Malden. Does anyone have more info on this case? Where did it take place? Was her name really Wanda? Anything? You guys seem very well informed, I'd appreciate any responce you could give me! Cheers!
P.S. Carrie Lynn Nixon is the saddest case ever. I thought for sure that was her in the "New Kids on the Block" video. When I saw the update that she had died right away my heart just sank.:(

Im glad other people remember the original Unsloved Mysteries. One of the biggest mysteries of the show, however, is WHY they wont update the orginal segments so we can know what has or has not happened. I kinda feel they owe it to the viewers. They brought the mysteries to US and got us all hooked and interested and then they leave us hanging.....

yolate...thanks so much for the update. I hope her parents find closure to this baffling case soon. I'm, like, the most computer illiterate person out there so I appreciate you sharing the link!!!:)

Thanks for the link! That sounds like a really interesting story as I don't remember seeing the UM story about it!

I remember this case too! I posted about it a few days ago but there was no reply. I remember that part about a woman being seen wearing clothes that were too big for her. Very sad.
