The Howling: Reborn Officially Announced
Source: Variety
November 23, 2009
Reconfirming what we reported here from the AFM last month, Variety has officially announced that indie producers Joel Kastelberg and Moonstone Entertainment's Etchie Stroh are re-launching the Howling werewolf franchise with The Howling: Reborn.
Also, former studio marketing exec Joe Nimziki, who worked at New Line, MGM and Sony, will make his feature directorial debut from his own script.
Shooting is expected to begin in February with an October, Halloween release for 2010. While plot details are being kept under wraps, we can assume that the story will follow Joe Dante's original 1981 flick, which launched the franchise and went on to spawn six sequels.
Dee Wallace-Stone starred as a news anchor stalked by a serial killer who turns out to be a werewolf.
Steve Lane and Bob Pringle, who served as exec producers on the original, will also exec produce The Howling: Reborn.

So, they're turning The Howling into Twilight with werewolves

Or...
You could watch the original "The Howling", which is a cracking good horror flick with great special effects, some tongue in cheek humor, real scares and some solid acting from all the principals.

Yeah, that's what it looks like. Also, that's where the money is...
The recent The Wolfman remake which was R-rated and aimed at adults didn't do that great (and it wasn't that great either) so I guess Howling is catering to the younger / Twilight crowd.

Surprise, surprise... The Howling Reborn is actually in production.
In fact, they're wrapping up as we speak and the fellas at Arrow have a first look at one of the werewolves. A "henchmen," in fact.
Joe Nimziki directed from his script.

I liked The Wolfman update a lot. Far better than most current theatrically released horror.

That may be true, but I wasn't that impressed with it overall.
I liked the setting/scenery a lot but that's about it really.

Bark at the Moon, It's The Trailer for The Howling Reborn
Source: Shock Till You Drop
July 13, 2011
Your first look at The Howling Reborn has arrived in all of its Twilight and An American Werewolf in Paris-inspired glory.
The story goes like this: Boy falls for girl and, whoops, lycanthropy enters the picture. Of course, there are bad werewolves, doubting friends, sexy beasts and the addition of a pun-filled line of dialogue about "biting.".
Joe Nimziki wrote and directed this franchise reboot, which Anchor Bay is putting out soon. No release date has been set.

Too bad they're trying to go after the Twilight crowd and do the young emo angst stuff but that's who seems to be into mainstream horror these days and that's what's making the money. A straight-up R-rated reboot of the 1981 movie, or one that follows the book more closely probably would not do well these days.
