I got a bold idea this week, and today my husband and I made it happen. We have an oversized bedroom, with a huge walk-in closet, etc. We've been sleeping on a Queen size bed. In our guest bedroom, we also had a Queen size bed. It dawned on me how great it would be to have a HUGE bed by putting the two beds together.

We went to Bed Bath & Beyond and bought matching comforters, a bunch of oversized pillows that matched those, bedskirts, toss pillows, etc. Thank God for those 20% coupons, lol. It took a LOT of work, moving the beds and other furniture around. We turned the guest room into an office. It was worth it because our bedroom looks great. The average King size bed is 80" wide. Our bed is 110" wide. The cool thing is that if one of us is having a bad night and moving a lot, the other won't really know because it's still seperate beds. Yet, it looks like one bed. We used the largest headboard from one of the beds, the one that matches the nightstands and bureaus.

We're getting a new TV for the bedroom, either tomorrow or Monday. I forget the size, I want to say 42". My husband's son works at Sears, so we're getting a great deal. Thanks to Jenny for listening to me talking about it all week. She's one special friend. :) I'm calling it the Family Bed. We've got two cats, who have been wondering what the heck is going on all day, lol. This should be interesting.

Wow, that sounds great Janice. :) I'm sure it looks really nice. I'm sure the extra bed width will be nce. I'm sure Lily and Cesar will love the oversized bed. :) With the two beds put together the cats can't 'hog' the bed. You know how cats like to stretch themselves out as far as possible. :) It sounds like you had a nice time at BB&B and found the perfect items. :)

Hopefully Lily won't try to get on top of the new tv when it arrives. It was fun hearing about the plans to put the beds together, etc. :)

 No kidding, climbing on top of my printer while we were on the phone, lol. Don't forget Cesar has climbed on top of my kitchen cabinets, lol. These cats are nuts. They keep going into the bedroom, taking turns lying on the bed. I think they want us to go to bed, but we're relaxing after a brutal day. They've already declared the office as theirs, probably because I moved their litter box there. They know there's been a huge change in the home, and are trying to figure out how it affects them. Two little cutie pies.

Lily probably thinks she's a little comedian by climbing on the printer. I remember you telling me about Cesar climbing on the kitchen cabinets. What a little monkey. j/k I wonder if Lily and Cesar will try to claim the oversized bed as theirs.

Oh man - I would LOVE to see a pic of the setup once it is complete! That sounds way awesome. :D

I'm wondering - sorry if it sounds stupid, heh. Anyway, you and Lou will still sleep in one bed? But if one of you (or both, lol, it can happen!) is moving around a lot, that's what the other bed will be there for? Just want to make sure I understand it a little better. :)

New TV... drool. I'd like around a 32" TV myself. Maybe if I get a nice tax refund when I file in 2010. :D

Not a stupid question. Actually, now since the bed is so big, we can actually be in separate beds after we fall asleep. When I woke up this morning, Lou was a mile away in one bed, while I was towards the middle, but on the other bed. The beds are so close, and he connected them underneath too. We have so much space that we can be far away from each other, which is cool, lol. We'll can still get together when we want. :)

:D I dont mean to laugh but when you mentioned two beds together, it made me think of the old TV shows where the couple slepted in the same room but in different beds next to each other.

Like Rob and Laura Petrie with their twin bed setup, lol. My husband would fall off that bed. He's a big guy. Not fat, just a large guy.

Another bonus for this, is that, as some people get older, they get more aches and pains, and don't sleep as peacefully. My husband's diabetes causes his feet to hurt bad (nerve pain), so some nights, he's all over the place. Many here know that pain is my problem, so some nights are rough. With this supersized bed, we're still sleeping together, but if we want, there can be a a lot of space between us. Lots of couples get separate bedrooms later on in their marriage, even couples madly in love. We were actually discussing that, but I like this idea a lot better.

Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone. And Jenny, I woke up with Lily next to me, which was unusual. She's not a bed cat, but likes this mile long bed, lol.

I like that idea way better. :) Together, but can be separate while still being in the same room. :D

Me too -- my room is a pathetic 100 sq ft (10' x 10'), and my bed takes up 3/4 of that space. That's not the worst part, though - I've had my bed in a 80 sq ft (8' x 10') room before... Now THAT'S tiny! It was so small that I had to take the closet doors off so they wouldn't hit my bed (this was in the last place I lived in). :o  Once upon many a moon ago, I used to have a 250 - 300 sq ft bedroom. I'd kill for a bedroom that big again!

that was a really creative idea Janice. The size of it must be luxurious for you both. Its fun to redecorate, especially with the winter season coming and you're stuck inside or if you're a homebody like me and need a change.

we're in the process of redecorating our bedroom too. we got a new tv for the room too, i think 42 like yours. and we got a new comforter but i'm in the process of looking for room accents - i want a nice chaise lounger or club chair with a little table beside it and a lamp on top to put in front of the bay window - like a nice relaxing reading chair.

i think it'd be nice to sit in it on a nice rainy or snowy day, curl up with a throw and a book and have a steaming cup of tea on the table beside me with the soft glow from a tiffany inspired lamp.

maybe even one of those faux fireplaces. marvin would have an anxiety attack if he knew all my plans.
