Sylvester Stallone Plans to Follow Rambo 5 With Rocky 7 in 2010
Saturday, October 24th, 2009
by Brendon Connelly
After Sylvester Stallone wraps his fifth Rambo, apparently a curious creature feature and now officially given the go ahead to start shooting in the spring, it looks like Stallone is looking to once again revive his other iconic turn/cash cow.
It seemed like a minor miracle to me that Rocky 6 was so well received and so going for a seventh roll of the dice seems at first like a gamble too far, but Stallone’s feeling quite philosophical:
"When I was 21 years old and at drama school. My teacher said to me, ‘If you ever put your head out there, thousands of people will try to cut it off, but that’s exactly what you need to do as an artist.’ “I know it’s ludicrous and everyone would laugh. I would laugh about it. But I also know that I’d be successful if I can make this a film about becoming older, not about boxing but about myself."
Do you know what, I think he’s right, actually. Rock on Rocky 7.
He was reportedly speaking to Tele 5 in Germany, since which quotes have spread like wild fire across the web. I sourced my quotes from Teen Say.
Here’s just a touch more of what he said:
"Even my wife says, ‘Don’t do it. You’re embarrassing the kids’. But I told her, ‘If I don’t try I’ll be a really unhappy man.’ You have to do it. Artists like me have to go through the dark over and over again."
Perhaps a leap into the true darkness of a non-franchise film would be good. Actually, that could include The Expendables, which still seems to be set pretty safely in Stallone’s 80s-brewed comfort zone, so maybe dabbling in a new genre would be necessary.
Okay, basically, I’m wanting Stallone to do his long promised Edgar Allan Poe film.
Am I alone in that?

I wouldn't mind that as I love them both but I hate it when they release a movie saying it's going to be the last.
RAMBO V is going to happen but ROCKY VII is in "planning" so we'll see..

It seems like those 2 characters are the only successful movies that Stallone has these days. I love them both too but sometimes it's better to quit while you're ahead.

True, we'll see how he does with The Expendables though.
Actually, it almost looks like the same exact plot from the last RAMBO; bunch of foreign mercenaries banding together to overthrow a violent dictator.

I know the movies have been successful for Stallone and all, but really what can Rocky do now? It is a bit ridiculous.

Well, Apollo was killed off so they could use Lundgren.
(i'm actually sort of serious as if this new film comes I want to see Ivan Drago back in some way)

Maybe they could do like a Christmas Carol thing and bring back Apollo as a spirit of some kind.

I actually didn't like Apollo so I was glad when the Russian killed him. I don't want to see him back lol.

I can see the marketing plan now. "Rocky doesn't stand a ghost of a chance! Or does he?"

The fact that the sixth movie, Rocky Balboa actually redeemed the series after the missteps of the fourth and fifth movies was a pleasant and unexpected surprise.
Stallone should leave it at that, with the Rocky series ending on a high note artistically, but apparently he has nothing else to offer creatively, so he's going to run Rambo and Rocky into the ground.
The audience may have come back out of curiosity for the last two Rocky and Rambo flicks, but I can't see them coming back again.
Sly, just retire and go out with whatever dignity you have left.
I guess Tim Conway as the white-haired Rocky in Rocky 85 wasn't just a funny gag back in the seventies -- it was prophetic!

Sylvester needs to give the Rocky and Rambo movies a rest. Damn isn't 6 Rocky's and 4 Rambo's enough? Stallone is too old to keep playing these characters. He needs to do other films like action flicks like the upcoming The Expendables. He shouldn't do anymore comedy movies because he sucks at that. Remember Rhinestone, Oscar, Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot? Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Ya'll should check out this Sylvester movie if you haven't seen it called Shade. It's very good and it has Melanie Griffith, Jamie Foxx, Gabriel Byrne, Thandie Newton, Stuart Townsend(Charlize Theron's boyfriend, lucky bas*ard LOL. Charlize is so hot.). It's a straight to video flick and it's about people gambling while playing cards. I also liked his straight to video flick Eye See You. Get Carter was the last good action flick he's done. I can't believe Mickey Rourke whipped his a** in that because Sylvester usually doesn't get his a** beat up except for Rocky flicks.

I love the Rocky movies, but I think Rocky Balboa was the perfect ending to the franchise.

When I read that the title of this thread I was like "OMG!" Why does he need to make a Rocky 7? Rocky Balboa was enough! I love the Rocky movies and I don't think there should be anymore. What is he going to do now. I mean he said he was going to focus more on himself in it, but Rocky is a fighter, so he always wants do a fight with someone, so I don't know how it's going to work.
Then he will want a Rocky 8 and just UGH! There has to be an end! You can't keep making them. Rocky Balboa was a good ending to the Rocky Saga. It wasn't my favorite, but it ended the series nice.
