Has anyone ever wondered why so few television characters are ever shown with their shoes off? I don't know anyone who routinely wears shoes indoors, literally not one person. Are they getting bribes from shoe manufacturers or what?

I wonder about that myself sometimes  I always take my shoes off when I'm in my own house.

My parents never allowed me and my brothers and sisters to go barefoot in the house when we were kids, except for a few minutes when we were in our pajamas right before and after bedtime. If any of us tried to walk around the house barefoot during the daytime, my parents would say something like "Hey, hippie...no shoes, no shirt, no service!" or "Put your shoes on, you look like a hillbilly".

I often wear my shoes inside the house. It seems like I'm in the minority as many people I know don't, but it's never been a rule in my house that people have to take their shoes off when coming inside. I was always really surprised when I was younger and went around to other people's houses and was told to take me shoes off - Iit puzzled me as I didn't understand why this sort of rule was in place.

About 50% of the time when I'm at home I wearing shoes. It depends on my mood and what I'm doing around the house.

I never wear shows when I'm home. I don't ask guests to remove their shoes though. We had a big discussion about this a while back. It was interesting.

I don't wear shoes when I'm at home. Slippers most of the time. I can't stand shoes, I'd wear slippers all the time if I could

^ That's how I am. I'd wear sandals and flip flops all year if I could. I can't stand having shoes and socks on.

I wear slippers or socks in the house but never go barefoot except of course when I'm in the shower.

It wouldn't bother me if someone asked me to take off my shoes when I visited their house.

If they asked me to take off my pants, however, that would be a different story.

75% of the time I wear shoes in the house. It's always been my impression that guys tend to perfer to wear shoes where as women don't. Though it is strange that on television, the characters have their shoes on all the time. I was actually thinking about this very thing when I started writing my current FOL fanfc, so I wrote a scene in the college library and cafe where Blair takes her shoes off becaue I thought it was more realistic.

Ditto! After a long shift, my feet are sweaty and my socks smell. So as soon as I come home, the socks and shoes come off. :D Air my feet out for a few minutes, then I put on fresh socks... In the summertime, I go barefoot after work but now it's socks since it's almost winter and we have cold floors here.

I always take my shoes off in my house. Socks always stay on, though.

Since I don't like going barefoot anywhere, not even in my house, I prefer to wear slip-on shoes, rather than just socks to walk around. I wear regular shoes at work, then when I'm done work, put my slip-ons on.

I never noticed that the characters on shows always wore shoes!! Yeah, you'd think that they would at least wear socks. It would probably be more comfortable.

Yeah, I don't know why but I always noticed this, because my mom was strict that shoes always came off at the front door or side door. We lived in a cold climate so I would normally be in socked feet around the house, bare feet in the summer. Yet I can count on one hand the number of shows where anyone had their shoes off aside from a swimming pool or something.

Probably for two reasons: to keep their floors clean and to make your feet more comfortable.

I've always found wearing shoes in the house bizarre, as bizarre as it would be to go to a business lunch barefoot.

We never wear shoes in our house and the only time I don't ask visitors to take theirs off is when it's a delivery person or someone working on something in our house. I even told my mom to take her shoes off in my house and I do the same when I'm in someone else's house. Just an obsessive clean thing for us.

It may have something to do with how you were raised - you said your mother was very strict about people taking their shoes off, so you grew up with that ingrained into you, so to speak. Whereas when I was a child, there was no such rule in my house and we tended to wear our shoes when we were inside.

when i get home, i take my sneakers and socks off and wash my feet, then i put on a pair of sandals, if it is summer or slippers if it is autumn or winter.

i always wash my feet, once i have taken my shoes, sneakers and socks off and put on sandals, slippers or whatever because otherwise my feet would smell.

Ha ha, yeah, I remember sometimes mom would make me pull off my socks and wash my feet when they were too smelly. Most of the time she didn't seem to care though.

I never dreamed of not wearing shoes in the house until I met my husband. We always wore our shoes at home, or at least I'd wear them until I got in my room and then would walk around the house with socks on. I hate going barefoot; even in summer. I always have to have socks on.
