So, being that older women dating younger men is becoming more accepted in society, why is it that older men are being picked on and ostracized for dating younger women? Are we now saying it's okay for women to date younger men, but it isn't okay for men to date younger women? What kind of double standard is that?!?!?!

I think if two people love each other, than that is all that matters. Though personally I would never want to date someone who was too much younger or older than me. I just don't think that we would have much in common. Its also a fact that marriages where there is an extreme difference in age tend not to work out over time. Still, if you can make it happen, go for it. :)

I got to admit when I see a guy with a woman who is young enough to be his daughter (or in some cases his grandaughter) I think he looks silly. I dont get why a woman would want to date someone who is old enough to be her father, and why a middle aged man would chase after a girl who wasnt even born when he was in his twenties, but to each his own I suppose.

Myself I prefer someone who is around my age.

Then again there arent any young girls beating down my door to get to me.

1. they're more mature
2. they're more sophisticated
3. they're more stable in many areas of life
4. they're not into head games
5. they are looking to settle down in most cases and not looking for a meaningless relationship
that's why i like older men. would you like me to continue?

Couldn't agree more Kim, I LOVE older guys! ;) I want a guy who's at least 8 to 10 years older than me. A lot of guys my age are beer chugging morons  All of the reasons you listed are why I only date older guys.

I'll always love older guys, don't like it? Tough Toenails! ;)

Ok Lulu and Punky you made really good points about dating an older guy.

For the record I am 35 which means I am past the headgames, the wild boy antics and such, but I still want to date someone that is within my age group.

I think sometimes older men dating younger women is sometimes more accepted than older women dating younger men. I think as a long the younger person is 18 or older and the older person isn't a lot older it's ok.

I couldn't date someone who was much older or younger than me, but that's just my preference. As long as both are adults, I really don't see how it's anybody's business. I only think it's disgusting when the man or woman leaves their current spouse for someone much younger.

I'm in my mid-forties, and my girlfriend is 30. As far as I know, nobody has said anything about the age difference between us. It might be because I look young for my age and I can pass for 40...and she looks old for her age, and can also pass for 40. She's very pretty and she's in good shape, but she just looks old for her age. Don't tell her I said that  , but it's the truth.

If there was a visible age difference between us, I'm sure people would be telling me that I "robbed the cradle".

I totally agree...that's why this thread surprised me, I think it's generally less accepted when older women date younger men (although it is becoming glamourized in Hollywood recently). Either way I often find it strange when there's a huge age difference...but I guess it depends on a person's personality. If an older person is maybe 'young at heart' or whatever, then maybe dating a younger person works for them, etc. Personally, I wouldn't want to date someone with a huge age difference from me but I guess it does work for some people.

It's simply a double standard. There's plenty of them and they will never go away. I'm 21 and when it comes to dating, I would go 3 years in either direction. But, I wouldn't date someone over 25 and certainly not someone under 18.

Trust me, just because a guy is older (even much older) than a female doesn't necessarily mean he's more mature!!! And I, unfortunately have living proof of it.

If anything, the guy I thought who was stable, confident and mature hit the age of 50 and started acting like an 19 yr old jackass!!!

Now he thinks he's more mature because he finally is interested in going to the Dominican Republic for a vacation instead of the usual Disneyworld he lived for for 49 yrs. Go figure!

And yes, he did look like an idiot dating a girl almost half his age....plus was referred to as "dad" on occasion.

I saw The Proposal in theaters back in June. I sometimes go on the IMDB boards after seeing a movie to see what other people thought of the movie and there were a few threads about the age difference between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. In real life she is 12 years older than Ryan. I think the movie her character was in her late 30's and Ryan's was in his early 30's. There have been several movies in which the male lead is older than the female lead and people really seem to not think much of it.

I also wouldn't want to date someone with a huge age difference. When I was 19 I dated a guy who was 26 for a few months and it was ok. Another ex boyfriend was mine was a year younger than me. I would never date someone old enough to be my dad. Maybe someone ten years older would be the limit. Maybe someone five years younger would be the limit for a younger man. My cousin is 28 and her fiance is 23. They get along great.

I think there are various reasons people date someone a lot younger or older than them. Two years ago a friend of mine who was 21 at the time dated a guy that was 35. He looked younger than his age. My friend asked him why he wasn't dating someone closer to his age and he told her that a lot of women close to his age usually have kids and he had bad experience dating a woman with kids. My friend and him broke up after 7 months of dating when had to move out of state for a job.
