Good question. Fuel to this fire was lit by Nelson Branco, who writes a column for the Canadian version of TV Guide, reports Soap Central. His basic thesis is that ABC, between "One Life to Live" and "All My Children" could only save one of those shows, and the one they have chosen to save is "All My Children."

An ABC spokesperson officially said in a statement,“The only upcoming move 'One Life to Live' is making is to the 'All My Children' stage after that series relocates to Los Angeles. This will give 'One Life to Live' more room and increase their production value.”

Well, we shall wait and see. Personally, I think it'll be ATWT or DAYS be the next to get the ax. :(

Speaking of DAYS, it'll be REALLY interesting to see what happens now that Comcast has bought NBC.

None of the ABC daytime dramas are in danger, they generate big $$ by being repurposed on the Disney/ABC owned SoapNet....the other network dramas they license, and yes "Days" will be axed in 2010, its been decided already but not announced. Leaving a hole in Soapnets nightly schedule but they are also putting more money into original programming.

This would be the second Soap Opera to get Cancelled.

It will definitely be sad to see another long-running soap get the ax, but I feel it is inevitable at this point...

So do I. I hope DAYS at least gets to stay on the air through November 8, so it can officially celebrate its 45th anniversary. :(

Nelson Branco rarely knows what he's talking about. He said that ATWT would be renewed through 2011, so WRONG. He also said that GL would be renewed through 2010, so WRONG.

Better than reality TV
I wish that genre would just die. Talk about taking space on a tv channel.

That's the best thing I've heard all day. I completely agree. People are always knocking soap operas (and these are people who just LOOOOVVEEE reality shows and watch them faithfully... as though it were a soap opera... imagine that?), but my answer to that is that all reality shows do is follow people around letting them do what they want to do. On soap operas, the actors and actresses have to learn all those lines and get into a character's head. To me that is a lot harder than having a camera follow you around recording your every move. I don't get why people think that is entertaining...

BTW, I haven't watched OLTL in years, but I hope they don't cancel it. I was a major OLTL addict there for a while and to see it gone (and even Days for that matter) would be like losing a piece of my past. I know that sounds stupid, but that's how I would feel...

If ABC does Cancel One Life To Live both ABC and CBS will have to fine something to fill in the 1:00 pm CT Hour.

As stated in my post in this thread, OLTL is in NO DANGER of being cancelled, it's awful when rumors get started and no matter evidence is provided, the rumors still pursist! NO ABC Daytime Dramas are in danger and make plenty of money being repurposed on the ABC/Disney owned cable channel SoapNET!

OLTL and GH Are the only soaps I watch. So if they are cancelled, that is the end of soaps for me...
