I am a fan of old movies. One of my favorite groups of actors in old movies is the Marx Brothers. If you like them too, who is your favorite Marx brother?

Oddly enough, "Animal Crackers" just opened in Chicago; it's a play based on the Marx Brothers film, and they were talking about it on WGN yesterday.
I like Groucho the best, but they were all essential to the success of the act. (Well, maybe not Gummo or Karl, lol!)

Groucho is my favorite! He was absolutely hilarious! I used to love him on "What's My Line?" I think that's the name of the show, anyway. I used to have a hilarious quote by him as my signature...
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read!"

You Bet Your Life was the game show hosted by Groucho (first on
radio and then on television). My favorite Marx is still the one, the only
Groucho! There's a lot of Groucho in another of my all-time favorite funny
characters: Bugs Bunny. Bugs even swiped one of Groucho's lines ("Of
course y'know this means war!"). :)

Harpo used to be my favorite as I admired his pantomime and his ability to create such fully developed characters without ever speaking. Last year I had the opportunity to see the play "An Evening With Groucho" starring Frank Ferrante at the Mt. Baker Theater in Bellingham, Washington. Since then I have been a Groucho fan.

I gotta go with Harpo. He was adorable. Harpo was married to only one woman, and the marriage lasted until he died. They adopted 4 kids. Plus I totally enjoyed his "mirror" performance with Lucy.

I'd say Groucho #1, with Harpo a close second. And Chico could be hilarious (Duck Soup anyone).

One time on Whose Line is it Anyway, there was a hilarious skit depicting the Marx Brothers. Ryan Stiles was Harpo, Greg Proops was Groucho and Colin Mochrie was Chico. HILARIOUS!!

Happy Birthday Groucho! :groucho
Hope he's having a wonderful birthday entertaining the souls in Heaven!:)
Harpo, without doubt :) Always was my favorite, and he seems to have been a very decent person in real life. As Monika said, he was married to only one woman and it seemed to be a true love match. I've read his autobiography "Harpo Speaks" and it's very interesting.
My sister and I went as the Marx brothers for Halloween one year. She was Groucho and I was Harpo. Very easy costume, just remember to bring your horn! :happyface
My personal favorite Groucho quote:
"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."

Here's a pic of Harpo and his kids from 1954. Adorable!

I love that Pic. It shows that Harpo had a sense of humor about his character and didn't take it too seriously. Of course it also shows that he loved and valued his kids too!

GROUCHO!!
I read once somewherethat people wouldn't recognize him when they would see him in public without his glasses, cigar, and greasepaint mustache.
Also, when he stated doing the show "YOU BET YOUR LIFE" (the radio show was done before a live audience; like most radio shows) they wanted him to do it with his trademark glasses, cigar, greasepaint mustache, and black frock coat but he refused and said "If I can't be funny without 'em, the hell with it"!

I was kinda fond of Herbert "Zeppo" Marx.
I thought of making a movie that's a combination of The Marx Brothers and Cheech and Chong. The plot basically is the Zeppo-like character tries to win the lady that he lost, but his other friends just want to get high.
And this is how I see it....
Groucho-Wise Cracker
Chico-All Talk and Smart
Harpo-Silent Partner
Zeppo-Ladies Man
Gummo-Never was in a Marx Brothers Film!
I've also wanted to get "The Groucho Phile". We had the book once and now it's been misplaced.

I dressed-up as Harop Marx one Halloween. I donned a wig and I made a good facial expression. I have photos for proof!
We also did a sketch from "Coconuts" (the "Why a Duck" sketch) at a church talent show....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCluyRJnldo
My favorite film by them would be "Duck Soup", then "A Night at the Opera", then "A Night in Casablanca".

Love the Marx brothers- my favorite is definitely Groucho, but Harpo is a close second. One of my favorites is "A Day at the Races" (1937)
