Man, I feel real sorry for kids who didn't grow up in the 80's. The cartoons were sooo much better back then. I don't even think kids now a days watch a lot of cartoons compared to the kids in the 80's. Here are my all time favorite cartoons I wish Cartoon Network would show:
GI Joe
GoBots
Transformers
Jem and the Holograms
He-Man
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teen Wolf (I remember a cartoon of this, it was CBS)
COPS
Rambo
Denver the Last Dinosaur
I also loved Thundercats but that's already on CN.

I can't quite remember if these were 80's shows specifically, but I haven't seen them for years....

Does anyone remember a show called 'Rude Dog and the Dweebs'? None of my friends can remember it but I know I'm not imagining it. I thought it was so cool but it hasn't been on TV in years.

And does anyone remember 'Kissyfur'? I haven't seen that for ages either.

I remember both of those, Rude Dog was on CBS. And Kissyfur was on NBC. Kissyfur was on real early in the morning so I didnt see much of it.

I used to watch Jem and the Rockers, Belle and Sabastian, Astroboy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fables of the Green Forest, etc. I hope they would also put back Rocket Robinhood. There was a lot of creativity in eighties cartoons.

What about Silver Hawks. I used to love that show. Thundercats and Silver Hawks were back to back. I loved those shows. I agree, I think the kids growing up now-a-days are missing on some good cortoons.

If There was a cartoon that totally ruled the 1980's, It would have to be the one-and-only "Smurfs"! For Longest running cartoons, Next to "The Simpsons", the Smurfs were really the second-longest.

I grew up in the 70s, and I really did not care for the cartoons of the 80s. I did however, like Inspector Gadget, but that was about it. I hated the Smurfs! I don't care much for the Simpsons either.

My favorite Cartoons were from the 70s except the Flintstones and the Jetsons which were from the 60s, but I watched them in syndication during the early 70s:

Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
Scooby Doo
Hong Kong Phooey
Bugs Bunny
Speed Racer
Josie and the Pussycats
Speed Buggy
Harlem Globetrotters
The Flintstones
The Jetsons
Super Friends

I do however like some of the cartoons of the 90s. Such as Men In Black (MIB), Superman, and Batman.

I absolutely hate Pokemon!
I don't care too much for Batman Beyond, but it is much more tolerable than Pokemon.

Cartoons from the 80's were the best. Batman: the Animated Series was the all time best cartoon of the 90's. Other then that the whole decade of the 90's stunk.

My all-time favorite 80's cartoon is:

The Real Ghostbusters

followed by Ducktales and The Snorks

Are you serious?? Am I really not seeing the greatest cartoon of all time...

VOLTRON, DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE!!!

Not the one with the cars, but the Five Lions --

Geez, I need to find those on video somewhere...

Tiger32
03-16-2002, 04:16 PM
Voltron may be the greatest cartoon in your mind, but in my opinion it is far from being the greatest cartoon of all-time.

How can one measure the greatest cartoon of all-time?

What are the standards?

Should longevity be the number one indicator?

How about popularity after the series has ended?

Unless we have standards to measure this, it will be extremely subjective.

WEll i Have to many 80's cartoons to pick! Does anyone remember the cartoon express on usa? I remember going to the beach and staying the hotel just to watch that. It was before I got cable. Almost all the 80j's cartoons I liked or saw at least once. Hard to say an all time fav. So I'll just mention what comes to mind.

What gets me is doesn't cartoon network(time warner) own a part of hanna barbera? So why not show more of the 80's cartoons on cartoon network. The current cartoons aren't good. I don't like the drawings, writting etc. I know Im biased cause I grew up in the 80's, or is it really one of the best decades for cartoons.

Does anyone remember one to grow on? Came on between cartoons on NBC.

My list

1. Pac-man
2. Pandamonium
3. Dukes
4. Alf tales
5. Punky brewster cartoon
6. He-man
7. Alvin and the chipmunks
8. Deputy dog( i think its from the 60's though)
9. kissyfur\
10. Pound puppies
11. Shirt tales

I think TV shows from the 1980's are not really good at all. If you look at them honestly, you realize that the shows are very weak.

The plots are simplistic because they just make it good vs. bad. Does anyone really think there are people that just want to spread evil around the world? That is unrealistic.

The animation in the 1980's wasn't very good and characters tended to move in a very unrealistic manner. Nowadays there characters actually have some life in their body.

I myself am a fan of cartoons of the 1990's and many of the superhero series recently because storylines had depth along with charcter development. I hate the anime invasion because now it's back to poor animation and character development.

I have quite a few complete series on DVD and VCD. E-mail me at Inner_City_Blues@hotmail.com for more information:

Here's my list:
DVD
Ant and the Aardvark
Batman
Batman Beyond
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002, Season 1)

Personally I prefer the cartoons from before the 1980s.Such as Spider Man,Superman and The Superfriends.Ohter favourites of mine were The Oddball Couple,a cartoon take off of The Odd Couple, which starred a sloppy dog character named Fleabag, and a skinny blue cat character with a British accent named Spiffy,Baggy Pants And The Nitwits,The Pink Panther,Tom & Jerry and Popeye The Sailor. Not to mention The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show and Merrie Melodies. As well as Yogi Bear,Huckleberry Hound,Scooby Doo and Laffalympics.I feel they don,t make cartoons like they used to.

My favorite 80's cartoons are the SMURFS. I really wish they would put that back on Cartoon Network. My other 80's favorites are Berenstain Bears (thank you PBS) care bears, heathcliff, garfield, he- man and many others. I know other people have said this but it's worth repeating. They don't make cartoons like they used to. Oh yeah I also liked Popeye. It wouldnt be a typical 80's Saturday morning without a big bowl of cereal and The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show!

My favorite 90's cartoon is Arthur.
