Jude, I replied on facebook, but wanted to catch you on here as well. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. It's not easy, but it does get a little better each day believe it or not. He will live on in your memories, but perhaps most importantly of all, he will live on in a far more important place than that. For him, real life has finally begun. God bless, my friend.

Jude, I'm very sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is devastating. You've got a tough road ahead of you, but one day your heart will get lighter. It never gets easy, just gets different and easier to manage in our heart and mind. God bless your father.

I"m so sorry about the loss of your father. That's something so large, it's hard to put into words, and grief is like snowflakes; each one is truly different.
Your dad will live on in memory and in spirit, through the blood that flows through your veins and the way you will carry on his legacy. And I'm sure that in some distant future, you will be reunited.
Peace and strength to you and your family.

I'm not very good at knowing what to say at times like this. But I wanted to let you know how sorry I am to hear this news.
Of course I never met him, but he's your dad, so I'm sure he was a good man. He also had a loving family. In this life if you have that, you're a lucky person. Not much more you can ask for.
May he rest in peace.

I lost my dad a couple years ago, and like JAlanRuss said, it does get better over time. Still hold on to those great memories though.

Oh my goodness Jude, I am so very sorry!!! :( I was so encouraged to hear that he seemed to be doing better, and was praying hard for him, I can only imagine how much of a shock this is to you. Your father was so lucky to have you there with him every step of the way, and I'm so glad he went peacefully. I'm sure he is in the loving arms of Jesus now, and is happy, and content. I love you my brother, and please know that I am here for you if you need someone to talk to. I pray that God comfort you and your family right now. God Bless You All, and May your Father Rest In Peace!!!

May I ask how your father got known as Cornbread???
If I knew myself, I tell ya  My dad has a variety of nicknames over the years--none of which I can explain
I wrote a mini-eulogy earlier tonight and published it on Facebook.
A Man Called Cornbread
Joseph Nathan Cormier--a man of many talents and a man of many other things. Born January 23, 1936 in Branch, LA, he was the only child of Evans and Marie Cormier-people who in themselves were many things--grocers, barkeepers, a farmer, a gardener, tractor salesman and rice miller. Their son, known to many as either "Joe" or "Nathan" would follow their footsteps in trying on many hats in the work field. Growing up, he had many cousins, aunts and uncles to give him nurturing and playmates. Thus started a long line of colorful nicknames given to him such as "Cop-Cop", "Yo-Yo", "Easy Money", "Killer", "Shop Foreman", "Jackass" and finally the one most knew him by in the last several years--"Cornbread".
To go along with the names, the man earned a colorful education by attending St. Francis School in Iota and then Spencer Business College in Lafayette. He would apply this to a long line of varied professions such as serving in the National Guard, a ring announcer for pro wrestling matches, a Dairy Queen commercial spokesman on TV 10, working for the La. Dept of Transportation, Tax Preparation and Notary, Cormier's Warehouse, Crowley Hardware and lastly, office manager of ReMier's Auto Glass.
Cornbread also had equally colorful hobbies such as burning the barbecue, watching old cowboy movies and TV westerns and lucky enough as a boy to have met his idol Sunset "Kit" Carson, cooking his famous one time only recipes known as "potluck", eating raw oysters, and watching the wrestling heyday of the '70s and early '80s. He was the vivid storyteller and was known to never refuse an offer of a free banana split. Another service he loved to offer people was being a smart aleck and raised all three of his boys to know that talent very well.
In his later years, Cornbread got involved with the American Legion Post in Iota, even before he was qualified for membership. Whenever there was a benefit to be done, he was there, ready and able to lend a hand and drink a cold beer or two. He was also involved with the Egan Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed his grand kids and was very proud of the three sons he had.
Yes, he was a man of many things, talents, and smart remarks. That is The Man Called Cornbread.

Very nice tribute - even though you can only scratch the surface (barely) of what your father did, and what he liked, what you wrote allows people to envision at least a little bit of a "memory" of him. Good job, and so sorry for the loss to you and your family. I know that the thoughts and prayers of everyone here on the S.O. boards are with you and your family at this very difficult time for all of you.

Thanks to each and every one of you--IT MEANS SO MUCH THAT YOU CARED ENOUGH TO SAY SOMETHING.
It was a very beautiful service--my eulogy lovingly read by Mr. Jimmy Broussard, and a French accordion rendition of Amazing Grace.
He received a gun salute and TAPS was played. And from The President of the United States--THE AMERICAN FLAG!! :D
The one thing I'm currently pissed off about is that The Crowley Post Signal DID NOT publish his obituary today--I see no excuse as for this happening.
