Cininnati -- A woman who spent more than 51 hours attached to a car on Fountain Square has won the Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Boom Buggy Contest.

Kim Murphy of Newport, Ky., outlasted 19 other people in her quest to win a one-year lease for a 2010 Kia Sol, WLWT-TV reported. She and the other contestants had to keep their hands on the car for the duration of the contest. Those who took their hands off the car were eliminated.

Murphy was one of only two people left Thursday morning, when the other contestant made a hand gesture during a conversation and picked his hand up off the car.

Murphy won with a time of 51 hours and 48 minutes. She also wins a new Nokia 500 smart phone and a front row seat to Riverfest 2009.

So what makes someone stand with their hand on a car for 51 hours? Murphy said her last car recently caught fire and she needed a new one.

I think I'd rather stand for that long rather than do something like having to ride a rollercoaster continuously to win a car, like I've seen some crazy people do!!

Those contests do remind me of tv shows. I'm glad the woman has a new car.

I would be amazed if someone didn't die of internal bleeding after repeated
rides on a rollercoaster.

I bet this woman couldn't stand or walk for about 48 hours after this

Yes, I remember the "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest. I heard the audio where people called in warning of the dangers and the DJs dismissed them because they didn't know.

The technical term is water intoxication. It's cause by osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water through a semi-permeable membrane. Think of it as water through a strainer. Pasta is salt and water is water. The concentration of solute (the salt) wants to be in balance on both side of the membrane, in this case your cells.

When you drink seawater the body's cells are not as salty so osmosis pulls water from your cells and they shrink and become damaged, like pouring salt on a slug. The salt stays put inside your cells as it can't flow through like the water.

The opposite thing happens when you drink too much water, you cells swell and can burst. One of the symptoms is to appear like you were drunk on alcohol. It's almost impossible to overdose on water unless you were forced or compelled to do it.

Not that you asked or anything, but I rarely get to show off my nerd power.

That's ridiculous! All that for just a one year lease on a car? She must have been desparate!

I went to a concert recently where I stood in one spot for 6 hours. My legs & feet felt like rubber walking back to my car!
