LOS ANGELES — Kelly Preston is pulling out of the annual Women's Conference, where she was to break her silence about the death of her teenage son.

The actress said in a statement Friday that she is "still deeply in the process of healing, and it's just too soon."

Preston was set to participate in a panel on grief at the annual event hosted by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver.

Preston and her husband, John Travolta, have kept low profiles since their 16-year-old son, Jett, died following a seizure in January.

The Women's Conference will be held Oct. 26-27 in Long Beach, Calif.

I can understand her not being ready. Too bad she had to pull out, but I'm sure she's making the right decision.

I had a woman in one of my classes this week who had just lost her son last month. She couldn't stop crying. Everything reminded her of her child that was not coming back. I don't know how you begin to deal with that kind of grief.

She made the right decision. Even though it doesn't seem like its been 7 months, it probably feels like yesterday to her. I mean, losing a child... I can't even imagine what that feels like. Losing a parent is very hard, especially when a parent dies young, but the loss of a child is probably much, much worse. I'm sure in time she'll be able to help others by speaking out.

Yeah, I agree she made the right call. It's been almost 8 months, but I understand her and John for grieving in private.

I can understand her decision. People grieve differently.
