Community: NBC adds new winner comedy to Thursday's lineup
August 12, 10:55 AM
Community, a new half hour comedy series premiering in September, is about a group of misfits that form a study group at a community college. If you think this doesn't sound like a funny idea for a TV show then you are wrong. The combination of writing, directing and a great cast make this one very funny show.
Joel McHale, host of the E! series The Soup, is perfectly cast as a fast talking lawyer whose college degree has been revoked (for being fake). He uses the idea of a study group to pick up Britta, (Gillian Jacobs) and then the group sticks.
After making a television comeback in his guest starring role in Chuck last season, Chevy Chase is now a regular cast member as Pierce, an older but not necessarily wiser member of the group. Also in the group are a middle-aged divorcee, a pop culture junkee, a high strung perfectionist and a former high school football star.
Although not billed as a regular, the hysterically funny John Oliver from the Daily Show appeared in the pilot as a professor at the college. If we are lucky we will get to see him occassionally as a recurring character.
