Anybody ever encounter a store with leechy employees? I was at Best Buy today and I had 5 people ask me if I needed help. I was there maybe 15 minutes. I don't mind being asked once, expecially if I look like I'm lost. But after that, leave me alone please!

What are your feelings on this?

I've had that happen to me. Of course, when i actually do need assistance, I have a hard time finding someone. I also notice men are a lot more likely then women to ask me if I need help.

On a related topic, have you ever been asked if you work in a particular store? I've had that happen on several occasions.

I'd rather have too many people ask me to help than have the employees completely ignore me. Then again, that's just my opinion.

i hate being approached in any store whatsoever - i'm not standing around looking lost, i know what i want and exactly where it should be and anyone that gets in my way is just wasting my time.

...and i frequently get asked for help by other customers in many different stores for no apparent reason.

Same here. Whenever I do need assistance, the employees are so hard to find! I've never had a problem with leechy employees. Funny you mention Best Buy though, because every time I go there...they're all too busy to even ask. It's so frustrating.

I've been asked if I worked at Target a couple of times. I think it's because I was wearing a red shirt.

No, I've never had that happen. Guess I don't look like I know anything.

And yeah, all five who hovered over me today were guys, one of whom had more jewelry on his head than I did. eep

I was in the grocery store last week and I had just come from work, so I still had my uniform on. This old man walks up to me as I'm quickly running through the store grabbing a few things I need and trying to get out, he asks me if we're out of Skim Milk. I was like, "Um, I don't work here, sorry." The funny thing is, my uniform is an orange shirt and black pants, they wear blue vests and blue jeans!

This must be a mid-western Best Buy thing, because I've had the same problem quite a few times while there. Its nice when a store has employees around to help the customer, but Best Buy seems to be taking it to extremes. Its like every couple of minutes an employee comes up to ask if you need help. After five or six of them ask if you need help finding something, it really becomes quite uncomfortable.

There were like 8 of them out on the floor and they all looked bored. So, don't watch me shop! I can't stand that.

The store employees are just there to help you. You should learn

At Best Buy they go a little too far. As a customer I don't need five employees in a span of five minutes coming up to ask me if I need help.

I know what that's like. I also know what it's like to be in a store and there's no one around to help you when you actually need the help.

It happens at Best Buy here too. You cannot walk from one end of the store to the other without being stopped about 50 times. The employees in certain departments (appliances, computers, etc.) work on commission, so I assume they are just trying to make a sale. Tell them you are there to buy some cheapie DVD and they leave you alone.

Dang, I got to find a new Best Buy to go to! I literally get a hello and a goodbye-that's it. No one ever asks me if I'm looking for something.

I can see being asked a little more in a section where you don't just take what you want off the shelf, but please don't ask me 5 times in the DVD section.

Though one guy did give me a website to check out. Can't remember the name though.

I've been mistaken for an employee many times. It's annoying, really which is why I won't wear shirts with the company logo on it. For sure that would make someone ask!!! However, once someone asked if I worked in a place and then asked the work-related question and I was acutally able to help them out!

If one or two persons ask if I need help I dont mind, but I dont like it when every 5 minutes somebody is asking if I need assistance. I know they are doing their job, but man oh man. At the same time its seems whenvever I do need some assistance I have to go all over the store to track somebody down.

 Exactly! I don't mind it at all. But after like 5 times, it gets a little annoying.. then when I finally decide I need help, the employees are scattered all over the place like lost sheepl:crazy:

It doesn't really bother me, but I do tend to avoid really small stores because I feel pressured to buy something.

One of our local grocery stores has the annoying habit of asking anyone that goes through the checkout counters if they need any help getting their items to their car. This wouldn't be so bad if I were 80 years-old with a buggy full of groceries and a broken leg but I'm 44 and perfectly capable of getting my groceries to the car without assistance. They ask no matter how many bags you have, The last time I was there I bought enough items for 2 plastic bags and the bagger had the audacity to ask if I needed help getting them to my car?

YES, and I can't stand it! This usually happens to me in cosmetic stores, such as MAC or Sephora. I don't even get a chance to breathe, much less look around, before I'm swarmed by employees asking if I need anything or if I've heard about their latest product. In those types of stores, I know they're aiming to make that sale for their commission, so I doubt they're just doing it to be helpful. I'm the type of person that likes to take time to browse, sample the products ON MY OWN, and THEN purchase. If I need help, I'll ask. It usually turns me off from going back to that store if I know I'm going to be barraged by employees as soon as I walk in.

Ulta is that way sometimes. Last time this girl just had to tell me about a bag that I could get if I purchased whatever it was. I don't want a bag! But I let her do her speel and quickly moved on.

lol Best Buy is good for having employees that attack you. God I hate it. If I need help, I'll ask for it. And it doesn't help when you have social anxiety and you just want to avoid as much social contact as possible.

Today I was telling my husband that I'm almost afraid to go to the Elizabeth Arden counter at Macy's to ask about makeup advice. I just want them to say "Oh this shade would look good with your skintone" or something like that. But I know if I go over there I'll be roped into buying a ton of stuff or else I'll be in there for hours! I think it's that way with all department stores and that is such a turn-off! My skin is really light, so it's hard for me to find makeup that doesn't make me look like a ghost. That's why I don't wear it much.

When I go to my local Best Buy I don't have a problem with them coming and asking if I need help.

Now that being said... When a customer goes through the door as to coming in, we have to say hello.

Sometimes when I walk by them, I'll just say hi then keep walking depending on where I am going.

Wal-Mart greeters. They have no purpose than to re-scan an item if the alarm goes off or help with item returns. There's one guy in particular at the major market Wally store that always targets me with "HI WELCOME TO YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WAL-MART" no matter what it takes and I'm just about ready to cram his face at times. At least the female greeters aren't as agressive, they usually just say "Hi". Male employees always seem to do that agressive harrassing crap with me just because I'm female, WTF? I think I'm pretty average looking but for some reason I'm the type that makes the males throw themselves on me asking for help or bombarding me with their greeting.

wow cathy you're lucky! the reason i don't go to best buy anymore is because i can never get anyone to help me. i walk around and have to search for somebody, then i finally find someone but they're not from the department i'm in so they call another clerk on the loudspeaker and another 15 minutes go by without them appearing and then i ask them to page the clerk again and they say "well he must be on his break" so i leave and buy it off ebay or amazon.

I know how you feel on both accounts. I just want to buy this, not 8 other things! And I'm pale too, so finding light enough makeup is a pain.

We have a really loud and slightly strange greeter at the Grandville Meijer. Customer have started a fan club for him on facebook. Some people, if Gregory is at the other entrance they will walk around outside to that entrance just to see him.
