that would be quite difficult considering his music isn't even pop.

This isn't true. Homeboy posted a blog I guess saying that those weren't his words. I don't think even he's that much of an *******.

Yeah, I read that on another website. It was a fake story.
But you have to admit, knowing his tremendous ego, he probably would have done it eventually...

There is no new King Of Pop. After Elvis Presley no one else but him is known as King Of Rock N Roll. It will always be MJ.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

I assume you haven't heard The College Dropout (debut) or his latest, 808's and Heartbreak. You are judging based on whatever radio-friendly hit he has sent out to radio. Listen to his full albums and then judge his music by that. He releases quality material and that's a fact, not a matter of opinion.

I have heard his full albums. No offense but Kayne West and that sort of music is not to my taste.

Same here. I've never cared for the hip-hop/rap genre.

The problem with Kanye West and his statements (if in fact he did say them) is that Michael Jackson appealed to a wide group of listeners. He wasn't stuck in just one specialized audience such as r & b. It was r & b, but it had such a broad appeal to many by incorporating elements of rock and standard pop into it. Kanye West is simply a rapper (but then I couldn't really say, because I'm not familiar with his work, but his reputation), and even though he is a huge wrapper, I don't think most people know the names of his songs to save their lives. Back over 25 years ago, even if you weren't into Michael Jackson, you could name his hits right off the bat.
I think there is this perception that many rappers have that over ten years ago, when rap and hip-hop usurped pop and rock for Top 40 supremacy, people somehow regarded their music as "superior" to everything else. Huge sales and high chart positions equaled musical impact, according to their reasoning. Michael Jackson's songs impacted the cultural zeitgeist ("spirit of the times") of the 80's in a way that few others could, most likely because he was multi-faceted as an entertainer. He took what was familiar to people and added his own particular touch to it. Rap is still going to be considered a
specialized subgenre of music, even though it is huge, it will never have the impact that Michael had. Most suburban audiences can't relate to the inner-city troubles with homies, hoods, bitches, ho's, bling-bling, and po-po's, as much as they would like to co-opt that imagery. When Michael Jackson did it for the "Beat It" video, he did it because most audiences were familiar with such elements as 'West Side Story' and the like.

You're not a hip-hop fan and are not entitled to make such a statement of Kanye because of that.
John Denver fan I assume?

Knock it off, He has every right to make any statement he wants regarding Kanye West or any other artist no matter what genre they are. A person doesn't have to be a hip-hop fan to form an opinion no more than they need to be a fan of classical, rock, country etc... I personally destest all hip-hop music no matter who sings it. The crap doesn't play on my tv , radio, etc...
