Could someone please explain these to me? I know nothing about them, but lately I've heard them mentioned over and over. I'm a little leary about getting a My Space or Face Book page, since I'm not really sure what they are. Is it like your own personal home page? I've heard some disturbing things about Face Book (although that involved some kid who went psycho and I saw it on Dateline or somewhere), so I'm kind of afraid to go that route.
I keep seeing "Follow __________ on Twitter" on almost every site I go to. Even on TV stations I am seeing this. I noticed SO has a page as well.
Any and all descriptions and opinions of all these would be appreciated-oh and feel free to be as descriptive as possible. I'm clueless about all this stuff!!!
Thanks!!!
Andrea

I got both a myspace and a facebook page. They have their disadvantages as well as advantages. There are things like quizzes and top 5 choices you can do on Facebook that you cant do on myspace. I like myspace because you can do more with your profile, and so many bands/artists of the past and present have myspace pages where you can hear their music, while Facebook does not offer that.
Couldnt tell you the first thing about Twitter because I dont have an account there. Myspace and Facebook are enough for me.

Twitter is really catching on. It's so fun, I love it. All you do is post short messages about what your doing or thinking about. You can also follow famous tv stars, celebs, and atheletes. Never got into facebook or myspace.
Yeah, Twitter is essentially blogging in 140 characters or less! I run one for our church, and it's really helpful in terms of updating our followers on our events and website updates.
Plus, I can update it by simply sending a text message to 40404, so if something comes up, and I'm not near a computer, I can update it from my cell phone, and it shows up instantly on our Twitter (which is embedded on our website).

i love twitter! it's so much fun. i have one and i use it as my place to store random useless information about me/what i'm doing. there's also "trending topics" that are fun to insert in your tweets lol. and celebrity twitters are fun to follow too. the most handy thing about twitter is that, like AKA said, you can tweet (make a status on twitter) from your phone through texting.
people try to compare it to Facebook and MySpace, but it's really not like them at all. it's more comparable to blogging.

I have a Twitter, but don't use it much... I already have a blog that people read. It's pointless, really. I can update my actual blog by texting from my phone anyway.
Myspace is meh. I have one, have had it for 4 years (my 4-year anniversary was in June). But it's safe to say facebook has beat myspace to a pulp now, AND myspace is trying to be like facebook, which is just downright annoying.

yeah i love twitter too. i have more followers on twitter than on facebook, which i never use. i like the fact that i can type up my messages using 150 characters, without ending up writing up one long paragraph. short and sweet. btw, monarc what is your username on there, because i want to follow your updates :).

Okay, Andrea, I totally understand.. I was in the dark too, until I got these things lol.
Myspace -- is a place where you can have your own "profile" and add friends, and you can leave messages to people, write your own blogs, have a music player, keep photos on your page... etc.
Facebook is a little different in that it doesn't have the music or blog features.. it does have cool personality tests and quizzes that are super addictive, and you can instant message friends, and leave messages, etc.
They just make it really free and easy to talk with friends about anything. I have to say, they're both pretty cool.. and free too! It's kind of like having your own little spot on the internet to call your own.
As for Twitter, I don't have one myself... but I think it's just updating people on what you're doing daily. I don't think it's very interesting personally... but for like celebs and stuff, well.. more people might be interested in what those guys do on a day to day basis or something.

Maybe they should just combine them all into one big network and call it "My Twit Book"

one thing I've never understood about Facebook. I heard that you can use it to look up people, in fact my brother and sister have done that; in fact my sister looked up a friend she hasn't seen in 30 years and now they keep in touch via e-mail and meet for lunch sometimes and my brother got in touch with some people he used to go to school with and they met for dinner recently.
But, if I type in someones name and click SEARCH you get 2 or 3 pages of that persons profile and there's no way of telling which one is the one you want-esspesially if there's no picture in the persons profile. So how do you do it?

I prefer MySpace, over both Twitter and Facebook, and the reason for that, is because it keeps informed about bands. I also have a Facebook account; both of my sites are on a private setting, where only people I trust can see my photographs, etc.

Okay, thanks. I think I understand now. Still seems kind of confusing though, so I won't bother with any of them right now.
